Thaanks for the report.   Oimatey definitely deserve all the credit he got.  

I am going to show some improvement this coming week and hope that I can reach at least the number 2 spot.  I have to make some changes still - but am waiting for the team announcement.   Some of my picks really went sour this week - Bekker in particular.   I still have to decide whether to stick with him for another week or sell him and buy a cheaper player.  One of my cheap players (De Allende) showed a marked improvement this week - but is likely to miss the game against the Chiefs.  I think De Allende may do better against the Chiefs - whose defence is not all that good.

The other  disappointment was Coetzee - but I am hanging on to him - because the next game is against the Kings and I expect much more from him.   Despite this I am not going to repeat mistakes like Mapoe again.  He really is useless in capital letters.

However, the byes in round 5 are going to hit me hard.   The Stormers, the Blues and the Rebels all having buys is going to be seriously problematic for me in the next round.         

Last I checked you had 2 trades left. Use them wisely.

I have focused on making as much profit as I can. Up to $610 000 so far. Hope to crack the million marker come Friday.

We receive our 2nd alottment of 20 trades Frioday morning so you should be fine.

What happens to the profits  you show?    It does not seem to affect your $12 000 000 allocation.  Does it mean that you get more for a player you sell when his price have increased?   I will wait for my two changes till Thursday - ie after the announcement of the teams.   Hope De Allende remains in the team - even if he plays on the wing - especxially in view of his cheap price tag..  That will help me massively with the two further changes I am likely to make..

 CM - thats exactly what it means. If you add your available cash and team value together it will not be $12mil. Should be more or less based on whether your players are gaining or losing value.

if have three trades this week and then get 20 trades this friday morning, will the transfers roll over or are they reset???

still havent got the hang of the scoring system, but i think i am going to try out a new theory when it comes to selections.

I have some idea about how the points are allocated in respect of the Test Rugby squads - but am really clueless about the norms for the Foxsport  squad.   I thought for instance that giving away penalties is a negative - but it apparently did not count against Fourie giving away three penalties on Saturday.  Is there any indication what is counted as positive and what is negative in repect of the Fox sport squad,   Then just maybe I will get my selections more correct.

I had a look at your squad and I hope you will not take umbtage at my comments:-

Poor Point Scoreres this week

The two most disappointing players in Round 3 was Coetzee and Bekker.   I am not going to change Coetzee.   The Sharks is playing the Kings and I am sure Coetzee will be the top point scorer in that game.  As far as I am concerned I may change Bekker - but the jury is out on that one. 

It is very hard  in this forum for props to score points.   Stick to hookers only and forget about props in this case.   My suggestion is to change to the hooker of the Blues - and possibly to Ged Robinson of the Rebels.

Forget about De Kock Steenkamp - he is always going to be poor,  my suggestion is go for Sam Whitelock of the Crusaders.   The latter team is up against the  Hurricanes this week and they are not the strongest team around.

Also forget about Mali - the Force is a weak team and it is going to be hard for him to be a pointscorer of note,  Possibly look at another center like Ranger.

I would not change Jordaan at this stage as he might just score a lot of points against the Kings.   It is not his problem that he cannot score points - it is a problem with the inside center who does not pass balls to him.

Basson is injured in any event - so go for Ben Smith of the Highlanders or pick another one like the Blues full back.  Probably a better proposition because the Blues are playing the Bulls and Morne Steyn will kick oodles of balls at him to allow him to attack. 

Just a few suggestions - but it will obviously depend on your budget

The little Bulletjie(name has just eluded me) and Sergeal Petersen should be good buys for you people with low budgets...

I have a feeling that the Blues are going to give the Bulls a huge hiding,   So I am keeping clear of them and Mastriet is the one you are probaly referring to.   I probably will hang onto Arno Botha if he is indeed selected - he is cheap as a loosie and is on the up and up.  Would like to get Pocock - but would not have the funds for that one.    The only possibility for me would be to trade Bekker - buy a cheap lock and then trade Botha for Pocock.  might do just that.

It depends though whether De Allende is in the Stormers starting line up.   His 200 points for a player that cheap was really good for the amount invested.  Rumour is that he will be on the wing for the Stormers this week,

Mastriet... yes thats the guy.... looked sharp on the weekend.

Im not a de Allande fan at all! Looks like a whole lot of nothing with ball in hand... i just see arms, legs, head and knees moving, but not that much forward movement. ... I reserve the right to change my mind here as I have only really watched him in 2 full games.

As for Botha... I may take you up on that one and bring him in for Kolisi.

What I enjoy doing is looking for locks that get played on the flank... like Jarod Saffy (though he is no great shakes), Steven Luatua and 1 or 2 others who i cant think of now...

They usually earn more points than the locks picked at lock as they get to carry a lot more ball, tackle more and also win a few lineouts.

...not sure if its bad protocol to discuss tactics? but i dont really care.. I just dig chatting about it.

This game is about selecting a player that scores big points (obviously) as well as making money. The more profit you gather the better the player you can draw into your team.

To make money means that you need to take a risk or three from time to time. Buy cheap ... sell high.

You guys are talking about bringing Blues players into the mix. I presume you've noticed that they're on a by next weekend ... right? So you buy them now and then have to trade them after the lockdown. Some of them are expensive so the chances of making any profit on them is farely remote. I would rather buy them straight after their by weekend. That way they'll be as cheap as ever and you can make some serious coin.

I guess each to his own, huh?

Also ... the guys that are on a by next weekend will lose  value quickly after lockdown so it's best to sell them all straight after the lockdown. That way you get the best price for each player.

Keagan ... your picks are harming your score big time. I would suggest you look at how one scores points in this game and then analyse the players accordingly. For example ... how much points does one score if you get a line break or a go forward? Then figure out who'll give you this line break and or this go forward and draw him in. Watch his price though. Can you afford him?? 

Check the site out properly and put some thought into your selections. Once you gain a little understanding things will go better. If you need me to assist ... let me know  ... even if its by email.

You are only 320 points ahead of me at this stage - beware I am going to get you next round.   I am beginning to realise how to score points and am going to work to get my selections better.   Clevermike is a bad bugger to contend with - something like the Sharks in that respect.   Watch out for Jordaan this weekend - hope you are going to change him.

i would love to hear ur theory on the scoring system, cos it seems more of an interprtaion of how the game actually performs.

on foxsport, the scoring is very simple, players who make line breaks, tackle breaks, try assists, score trys, and most tackles and runs, make more points then those who dont.

here are stats free from an independent medium for ben smiths game and jaco tautes first spXV game,,,
 

ben smith has a try assist and a try, taute has neither

ben smith has 5 line breaks to tautes zero.

ben smith has tackle breaks to tautes one.

ben smith has three offloads to tautes one.

ben smith has zero errors, to tatues one.

ben smith makes two tackles and misses two, while tautes makes 3 tackles and misses 1.

and testrugby .com thinks they both equall??? WTF???

keep in mind these stats arent from foxsport either, but they had similar stats as well.

i do like the idea of making money to futher enhance ur team, but their is value in picking players who are cheap but effective.

for testrugby i might start picking players who dont attack, as that seems to be the main points criteria, then again im just grumpy cos im 8th, LMAO, :oP
but al jokes aside, taute being just as good as ben smith in thier one and only games they have played, is there anyone here who agrees with that???

There is a full explanation on how the point system of Testrugby works on their website and it is really very simple.   They apparently give credit for ball carries and retention of balls by the players side as well and they treat line breaks separately.     On the home page on wour left hand - you would find a heading called "Scoring Points" and it will give you a complete breakdown.   

Whether you agree or disagree - and I do disagree in some interpretations - I think the basis of giving points is very clear and can be interpreted easily.

I am completely at a loss as to the point scoring of FoxSport.   I wish they have a similar explanation.   That would help a lot.   For instance in the case of TestRugby players are penalized for giving away penalties - but it seems if that go unpunished on the FoxRugby program.   The latter can be illustrated by for instance Fourie last week.  He gave away three penalties - but still manage a very high score.   Same applies to Pocock - in the two games played he gave away 4 penalties - but still score very high points.  In the test rugby set up -Pocock for instance lost 100 points for that - and Fourie lost 75 points   .   People get awarded positive points for good play - and they get penalised for bad play in the Test  rugby site - but in the Foxsport site good play is awarded while  poor play is seemingly ignored or downplayed.  Cannot understand that part. 

On testrugby I am not understanding the carry over of money Capone is talking about when you sell a player.

Alf Mafi is off my team due to the bye this week. But he has been one of the best centres so far this year. For points on that website that is.

Basson is gone as well, with Barrett and De Kock Steenkamp.

players are pnelaised ofr giving away penalties on foxsport, if u want to see what they earned for the week (pts wise) just move the icon on the my points page to the actual points they scored and it will give u a summary of what u earned during the week.

i replied to someone a while back i think it was sharkbok about how they score on foxsport, i posted the whole listing as well and u will find it under the rules under points scoring, so have a look for urself or i will post it later on, i cant right now cos it wont let me access it.

u should look at pococks points again, cos he didnt score very high in both games at all.

but i have seen the points system in testrugby.com, but they must interpert it for themselves, cos according to them ben smith had no try assitsts and no line breaks, according to TAB stats, foxsport, espn, rugbydata, he had more then 4.
in any case ive seen both ur comments on taute and ben smith and i know u think its crazy that the two are considered of same value, O_o

By now you should realize I am computer-illiterate.  I couldnot find the poit scoring system of the Foxsport game - neither could I find the basis for allocation of points to the team I selected last week.  Can you please help out and provide the info.

as for what ur players scored,

go to latest points.

then just move the icon to the points ur player scored. it will be directly underneath the players name in yellow.
it will then show u exactly what ur players did to earn that rounds points, :o)
