This was the first year I participated in the fantasy selections process and learnt some very valuable lessons in the process. I am not displeased by my progress in the competition and am looking forward to the RC competitions to follow. I made some real mistakes in both. Initially I followed my heart and concentrated on Sharks players and their general performances were poor in may respects. I only cottoned on later and start looking at the statistical records of he players concerned and forget about the fact that they are Springboks, All Blacks or Wallabies playing for certain teams. I sometimes made he mistake of following the trend in one match and then ended up with under-performing players who were disastrous in subsequent matches. Loyalty to players - despite one poor performance - should be the norm The problem with Super 15 was the Lions tour that caused disruption to the process - with on two occasions only 4 trams took part in rounds and on a third occasion there were no Aussie teams playing in a round. I do not think it would happen again in 2014 and the selections would be easier to deal with. In essence I want to thank my fellow-players for their valuable advice at times and would like some info on the forthcoming RC competitions.

@mikey,

u will do a lot better for all fantasy tournamnet from here on out.

ur doing well in testrugby and ur biggest problem in foxsport was the way u played the wildcard, u were too impatinet despite my many many MANY warnings advising u not to play it until at least the rnd 17 byes, lolz.

but u live and learn and u will be much better from here on out, we all will, but lets try and convince others to join up like mozter, saffex, beeno1 aka storminged, its way more fun the more people u have, :o)

Sasue I don't think we would be able to recruit Beeno, Saffex and Mozart to participate in fanrasy rugby tournaments - they love to talk big and they would mess yp selections and ends low on the log because they are over - prejudiced about players. I tried to get Tomas in and will keep on trying. Problem is the chap is clever - a student of rugby - and likely to beat us by a mile. I am sure Cleancut and Capone is involved in Test Rugby - but they are not involved in Foxsport. Think we should call on those two to join both competitions. Thanks for all the advice and when do you think will Foxsport start with the RC competition?

 I just hope people don't start to think that these fantasy games reflect on people's knowledge of rugby and their opinion on the best players because essentially their measured on stats and numbers which really don't take a lot of things into context.

Shezza Unfortunately a poor performer over number of games are reflected in stats. If a player constantly under-performed - like giving away penalties, losing possession of the ball, kicking aimlessly, missing tackles, etc - his performance will be reflected by stats. On the other hand if he performs well and stands out as a player - the same would happen, You take a good performer and his stats will show it - you take a non-performer and the same will happen. So despite the false and mythical impressions created by people to support players they like - their actual performances are rubbish and that can be factually proven. People prefer to ignore stats because they do not support what they say about their favoured players and then come up with fabricated rubbish and when a player fails and it affects team performance, they fail to recognize it and blames every other player on the field for losses in games - bar the player they personally like. If you are not interested in participation - nobody really cares.

@shezza,

its not the be all end all of a players perofrmance, as IMO players do a lot more then what they are recognised for in the fantasy circuits, but it is a rough barometer to which players can be held to, not all the time mind u, but definately most of the time.

u should give it a crack, its loads of fun, :o)

The stats each player reflects on testrugby is relatively accurate of their weekly performance. There are times when some stats are missed ... but having said that I would go so far as to say that it's around 80 - 90% accurate!!

 

It's a game where you have to analyse stats, use your head, risk a lot on a gut feel, make money through buying and selling players, use tactics or a game plan while watching your opponents picks and their movement.

 

You have to watch your transfers or trades carefully (something I tend to struggle with) and constantly be aware of who's injured or who's on a by.

 

Sometimes bringing in a wild card can mean the difference between winning or losing the round.

 

I changed my tactics in the last quarter and it cost me this season ... I have however learnt from it.

 

Shezza .... don't make excuses as to why you don't want to participate? Give it a try and see for yourself.

 

Join us in the RC. It will teach you a few things on how to play the game and prepare you for the coming 6 nations and next years Super Rugby.

 

Who knows ... you may be a natural just like oimatey.and Mike.

 

It is after all only a game ... and a lot of fun.
