Sasue

I think that we manage to make a serious mess of the players we select.  For myself I fall for rubbish all the time.  I can name a whole lot of players that played well in the intitial stages of the competition and have gone sour afterwards.

In my view the following players were proved to have feet of clay:-

Ben Smith

He played well in the first game between the Blues and the Highlanders - and since then was somewhere between avrage and mediocre.   Obviously following him is not a good idea.

Charles Piutau

Same as Ben Smith

Julian Savea and Conrad Smith

They showed up well in one game and then went fishin as well.   At least Smith scored a try - but otherwise they did nothing at all.   A rookie like Serfontein scored more points than Smith - What does that tell us?

Gerald Anscombe and All the flyhalfs

Anscombe did well in the first game and after that went AWOL.   Cruden, and Carter never got more than 29 points in games they played in and seems to be very average virtually all the time.  Cooper got 54 points in one game and was very average to mediocre  in the other 6 games he played in.   Barrett never made 25 points in any game he played in.  Lambie did best of the lot and then played a shocker in the Rebels game.

GeorgeSmith

Instead of taking note of the fact that Smith should have been penalized fr playing illegally in making two of his four turnovers - I fell for the hype and he was penalized regularly this week.  Should never have ruined my Test Rugby selections to bring him on Board.

SUMMARY

I can go on and on about it - how I fell for the hype all the time and then find out that the top players buggers up constantly.  The fact that I catered for the Smiths and Savea ruined me not only this weelk - but is going to cost me dearly  next week.

Am I the only idiot that do not pick my team on own believes and and performances that can be regarded as flash - in - the - pan performances?

@mikey,

oh my poor fantasy brother, i can feel ur frustration thorugh ur words, lolz, :oD

i see what ur saying but had u stuck with players that represneted ur beliefs, wouldnt it be fair to say u would be in bigger trouble, i mean the likes of jordaan & allende even in games where they were half decent they still scored bugger all.

from a foxsport fantasy point of veiw, the way i see those selections is like prediciting the outcome of a match. when the chiefs played the cheetahs in hamilton, it was my opinon that the chiefs were going to destroy the cheetahs which they did. factors i took into consideration when coming up with that prediction was the teams involved, where it was being played & the type of rugby they play. everything was screaming for a chiefs one way demolition job.
now as the sharks vs kings have proven and the blues vs crusaders, this is not always the case, but logic dictates a reasonable course of action.

picking players based on the situation is what most of us take into consideration, especially with transfers, hence selecting julian savea. after all savea has displayed games of real power this season and now hes playing against the kings, its always a gamble no matter what players we slect, but the logic behind saveas slection is sound consdiering the info we had at the time.

there are also selections of players based on their form, like ben smith and charles piutau.

ben smith has scored 58, 34, 26, 28 and his latest score is yet to be finalised
charles piutau has scored 56, 36, 43, 13 and his latest score is yet to be finalised

entering this weekend, ben smiths average was 36.5 and charles piutaus average was 37. it may have been hype which bought u to recruit them, but as there numbers clearly indicate, they are still worth their transfer wegiht in gold, add to that charles piutau costs a measly 195k, and thats a bargin no matter who u barrack for.

flyahlaves this year are real hard to gauge, last year aaron cruden was avergaing 30-35, but he played every single game for the chiefs and was thier goal kicker, so he was earning points by the ton.
since cruden gave up the goal kicking early on to anscombe, anscombe has proved to be such a huge success, that it makes sense to keep him on it.

carter has scored 22, 30, 28 and 29 with an average of 27.25, that makes him one of the most reliable flyhalves in the comp, add to that he plays for the crusaders and u will expect the crusaders incumbent goal kicker to get loads of opportunities.

just check out lambies score who is one of SA best - 27, 15, 35, 34, 6 for an average of 23.4.
lambie has a few games of very good scoring opportunites, in particular the 35 aaginst the kings and the 34 against the brumbies

lambie has the opportunity to give u a real good high scoring game, but carter has the ability to consistently get those points rolling at a high average.

averages is a good way of finding out players, but ur selections should be based on a mixture of all of the above IMO, like a well balanced team.

Ssue

I see the points on Piutau has been finalised and he now has 1 point.  Since I recruited him his average is 15,67 per game with the last two games 14 scoring points.   That means that even at his price he is not a good investment.

OK - I will keep Sam Whitelock - he had an excellent game today - and I think Anscombe is also very good - I wrote about him before the points were finalized.

My picks this week was at least a bit better than last week - but I still cannot catch up with you.   Will get there sooner rather than later I hope.

Mind you I think I will change Smith next time around for Hosea Gear.   Will keep Jordaan for another week or two while I sort out the mess with the rest.  Will be forced to put Serfontein on the bench next week - but I hope the bloody Bulls will keep him in their starting line up.  Will have to keep Lambie for a while longer - and hope he comes right next wek

The scummies are messy - there is really nothing to go on.  I am going to bring Reinach back next week and he can then start.   All the scrummies are up and down - more down than up.

What to do with Geoge Smith - he is a bloody penalty giver par excellence and his other assets really are limited.   As soon as Cane is available he comes back and I will then have him, Coetzee and Labuschagne in that position.  May keep Smith on the bench - may not.

I think Etzebeth will be back in two weeks time and Bismarck will be back for the tour.  So they will come back into my squads.   Ged Robinson is good - but he is in a bad team and you hero Fourie is a poor iline out thrower ns also a penalty giver - not for me that one.

I am relatvely happy with the props and will only bring on the Beast to strengthen my selections there.

*   Beast to replace Slipper as props

*   Hosea Gear to replace Ben Smith.

I think that I may also bring in Reinach ahead of Groom.

However - the other changes will depend on team selection.   I may have a problem with props - since two of them are from teams with byes.  If Robinsomn plays as a starter he will get my vote to start and the other prop will have to be Beast.  That means only one change up front.

I was right to warn you about Serfontein - was I not?
