We’re slowly coming to the home straight and by the looks of it, it’s a 4 horse race, with the possibility of 3 outsiders making a late challenge.
1. Lightbringers – winner of 3 rounds, has had a cracker
of a season this year, dominating top spot most of the year. Best I’ve seen him
play to date.
2. Sleeping Giants – yet to win a round – with many second and third places helping him keep in touch ... has reduced more than 1000 pt lead to just over 400 pts as of this morning. While closing in on The Lightbringers, he’s managed to open a gap between himself and The Boss of near on 800 pts. A definite threat to The Lightbringers hopes of taking his first Super Rugby title.
3. The Boss – winner of 1 round - has fallen away some but knowing him as I do, isn’t to be taken lightly. This multi title winner will no doubt fight till the end.
4. Basquefan - winner of 3 rounds - has shown he’s someone to contend with. Seems to blow hot and cold though. Currently 1290 pts off the pace. He will however need to put some hard work in if he’s to make up ground.
5. Sasuke – winner of 1 round – with a monstrous 4000
pointer this week, has his work cut out for him as he’s nearly 2000pts off the pace. A
few more rounds like the one he’s just had could bring him into contention.
Following hot on his heels is Stooges (winner of 2 rounds) and
Oimatey (bronze medallist last season) - both with an outside chance.
It’s going to be an interesting tussle. Certainly the most exciting finish for many a year.
