He is so slow, I doubt he will be effective. Then again the Sharks do have Carthuizen at 12, so who knows...

Bastereaud usually plays at 13 .. so that's a step up from the useless Am.

I don't see the point of a French player coming to SA to play. Surely what he would get paid here is a complete joke compared to what he could earn in Europe or elsewhere?

Bluebok

Toulon has to up their performances in the Top 14 and  Nonu and Bausteraud were NOT the answer,   They let Nonu go back to NZ and  it is already clear that they want to get rid of Bausteraud as well.  That is why the latter is looking for new contracts after the 2019 WC,

It is indeed a pity that Du Preez as coach is falling for the same trick that Gold fell into by "importing" rejects like Fat Stevens and Botha in the Sharks squads with disastrous consequences,

Bausteraud will get NO contract in France or any NH rugby club and the result will be a disastrous contract for the Sharks.   The answer is not the income story - it is about getting an income in France at all.

Why would no French or NH club contract a player who has played in eight tests for France in the last eleven months? He played in three of the five Six Nations games, twice against NZ, once against SA, Argentina and Fiji.

In the past French players were recruited for their skill sets to bring an extra dimension to the Sharks. Do the Sharks have the budget to feed him, let alone pay his salary?
