This was an interesting one because Dimitrov is so similar in style...so similar in physique but bigger... but so dissimilar in age. Mattered not a whit to Federer, in the words of Ronald Reagen he didn't hold his opponents inexperience against him....he just blew him off the court. Thirty six, the new twenty six.....it's all good news!

And now we have a massive battle on between Nadal and Muller. They are busy with the 22nd game in the fifth and final set.

Muller wins the final set by 15-13!!

Nice to see Muller playing classical serve and volley....won him the match with a high net point won stat. But I'm also pulling for Fed.

Federer is something special. The greatest ternnis player of all time.
We are fortunate to be alive during his era.

Would be great if Federer could add another Wimbledon title but I would like Murray to win it as well. If I really had to choose between Roger and Murray it would probably be Federer by a fraction.

Geez Vlag what do you like about Murray.....a foul mouthed whiner, who plays boring tennis. Yes he is formidable and a great scrambler, but what is pleasing about him? Just asking.
11 Jul 2017, 14:49#8
Murray...please, please, please let anyone win except him. I simply can't stand him. As you've noted Moz, he's a bad tempered little biatch. Also, he is the poster boy for a 'moer me' face!
11 Jul 2017, 15:08#9
That about sums it up. For some reason everybody hates the guy. Even a lot of Brits. Before the final, that he lost to Federer a few years ago Boris Becker was one of the studio guests and one of the other commentators, a Brit probably Henman, started taking the piss again. He asked Becker what he would say if he was Murray. Boris basically said that he would tell them to p!ss off because he was no 4 behind greats like Nadal, Djokovic and Federer what did they expect?
Another one who is always p!ssing about Murray is Virginia Wade. She was b!tching about his back issues and said basically said that he was feigning it. And then what happened? He had a major back operation, went into rehab and came back and then became no1. He had an injury before this year's Wimbledon, and was in a race against time and he is fighting. Compare that to the other show ponies who come here, take part in the first round and the develops some kind of ailment and drop out of the tournament.
John McEnroe rates him as one of the best returners of serve ever.

Cera, everything you have said does not change the fact that he is tantrum throwing whiner that has a 'moer me' face. Just because you are good at something does not make you likable.

Whether a person has a "moer-my-gesig" face is purely subjective, it's not a fact.
The day Andy Murray arrives at Wimbledon wearing a white tracksuit with a gold number embroidered on it that is one higher than his current slam count then I'll consider him to be as self-important a tosser as Roger Fe derer.
I quite like Murray. For me it's Djokovic first, Murray second and then the rest.

Show me a bigger tantrum thrower (in his playing days) than McEnroe, yet everybody, me included like the guy. Show me someone with more of a moer-my-face than Ivan Lendl, yet everybody seemed to like him. And now we have the same kind of rants about Judy Murray as well. Very few people (outside of the UK maybe) know what she has achieved. She is no high classed b!tch at all. In fact, she is actually a very down to earth woman who would not think a minute about taking the piss at herself. Many people seem to think that everything, for her, revolves around her two boys. The opposite is actually very true. She has spent a lifetime coaching and promoting tennis at all levels in the U.K.
"Aside from her own sons, she has coached multiple players at regional and national level under the auspices of the British tennis governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). In December 2011 she was elected to lead the British Fed cup team as their captain.[8] She says she took the job in part to raise the profile of female coaches and alleviate some of the sexism that she says remains in the sport.[9] She resigned as Great Britain's Fed Cup Captain in March 2016.[10]
Murray was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to tennis, women in sport, and charity.[11]"
"Murray was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Edinburgh on 8 October 2013.[12] On 24 November 2016 she received a second Honorary Doctrate from the University of Aberdeen.[13] A third Honorary Doctorates degree was awarded to her by the University of Glasgow that same year.[14] She now holds three Honorary Doctorates from some of the most prestigious universities in Scotland.[15]"

Actually I think I was the only person in the States who liked Lendl.....and McEnroe was thoroughly disliked by many until after he retired when his sense of humour emerged. And now if he talks about himself it's almost always in derogatory terms. I doubt Murray has a similar redeeming feature. Urinal makes a fair point about Fed, he did showboat a bit....but it was all done with marketing in mind.
11 Jul 2017, 16:14#16
Andy Murray was on Mock the Week a number of times and not as a studio guest but as a member of the audience. He is a big fan of the show and he knew that they would obviously take the piss at him and he still went and by all accounts thoroughly enjoyed it. He also took part in A Leaugue of Their Own where the piss is taken at everybody on the show. All the clips are on YouTube. There is also one where he actually has a go at himself because of the way he speaks.

Well Vlag it's a good thing we feel strongly about these players.....I find Andy a whining, ugly victim type.....Urinal sees Fed as a tosser. It's in the eye of the beholder.

In the end it's not a popularity contest.
I take it we're looking toward the better tennis player, right?
My support will definitely go to Roger and it's not because of anything Andy's done or said. I just prefer Roger's style of play ... particularly his single handed back hand.
11 Jul 2017, 18:01#19
@CC. Strangely quite a few geezers have latched onto my support for Andy, totally missing out on what I said about my choice between the Federer and Andy when I said: "....If I really had to choose between Roger and Murray it would probably be Federer by a fraction."
So, in a nutshell, I also would prefer Roger to win it.

I am a great Federer fan and of course that great loser Rooitwitterbug has to gainsay the great man! You will always see shots of great genius when watching Federer. Here is hoping he wins! There is actually nothing much wrong with Andy Murray if we are being honest. He conducts himself well as do most tennis players apart from some like young Kyrios.
