didnt realise how solid NZs openside flanker depth really is til i made this list, but one player every guy should look out for in 2014 is tasmans shane christie, this dude had a stellar 2013 ITM campaign, outstanding breakdown work and a NZ typical fantastic running game, no doubt thanks to his time in the NZ 7s team.

shane christie people, one to keep on the watch list,

one other thing worth noting is that the NZ players named in my five of each squad are all based in NZ, had i selected players who are over seas, it would have been an even better all round squad.

and in 2015 we will see the return of SBW, but thats been a nek minit moment, so not holding my breath on that one.

I cant earmark Stokkies Hanekom for making an impact in SA rugby as, according to Dave, he has not been tested in Super rugby yet the man selects the untested Tim Swiel, and get this, not just in the Sharks best 5 but a Bok best 5 along with Hanekom again after giving me shit, Mnisi (at 3rd choice 12), Jantjies ahead of Catrakilis.

He can select Schreuder and Groom ahead of McCleod..

Here we have a squad of 75 players. 
Not sure if this is a Super XV squad of starting players for all 5 regions, or some gigantic Springbok squad. 
Given that many of these players are overseas, it may be may well be the World Cup squad, although I did not hear the Boks are going to field 2 squads at the tournament.
Habana is currently injured so unlikely to be playing for Toulon and the SuperXV squad, at the same time.

oldies have been taken out in the 5 of the best v2.0 list just above.

re steven luatua
steven has played as many top level games at lock as he has at flanker. in the All Blacks hes played more games at flanker, but he has had played lock.

ive moved him in the new list to his prob better position No6 accommodating for kaino who was excluded in the age cleansing, but i would have no problem with luatua playing lock for the All Blacks, as long as the other lock on the field is either whitelock or retallick.

the thought of having luatua, messam and read on the field at the same time is something that warms my pro loosies with speed and mobility heart.

start the game with ur standard lock and loosie combination
4 retallick, 5 whitelock 6 messam, 7 McCaw, 8 read
and if everyone is preforming on the day, send in luatua off the bench to give us that extra zip.
no team in the world can gain parity with the speed and mobility of our forwards, so luatuas ability to slot in at either lock or flanker around the 60min mark when players are more tired makes the task of keeping up even more impossible.

That's better Sas and I have never been a fan of playing a loosie at lock or a lock as a loosie. Invariably the loosie lacks the grunt of a lock and the lock is too cumbersome for a loosie.

 

 

Luatua is a special talent, you have a real gem there. I would play him ahead of Messam for the AB's now
