The astounding run of injuries continue! When will our player managment get set right in an attempt to reduce them?

Van der Merwe, who hurt himself in the closing minutes of the one-point victory over Wales in Nelspruit this past weekend, underwent a scan and was sent for a specialist opinion by the Springbok management on Monday.

And the news was not good.

The specialist ruled that Van der Merwe had to undergo surgery on his posterior cruciate ligament, and will therefore be out for six months.

He joins a growing list of injured players who will miss the Castle Lager Rugby Championship and only return to action in next year’s Vodacom Super Rugby series.

The Boks will be hoping on better news for Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira though, as the prop will be monitored for the “bulging disc” in his neck, also sustained in the same game, before a decision will be made about his availability for the Rugby Championship.

But with Willem Alberts also on the sideline this week with concussion, it is hard not to sympathise with coach Heyneke Meyer’s injury list, which just keeps on growing.

In addition to this, Johan Goosen’s reoccurring knee injury has meant he has played virtually just two minutes of the entire June test series.

At the moment there are no less than 18 players out with injury, and if you consider that another seven have been released back to their European clubs, then the Boks sit without 25 players that they can choose from.

The injury list is as follows: Jean de Villiers (knee), Damian de Allende (knee) Eben Etzebeth (foot), Jaque Fourie (ankle), Pat Lambie (bicep), Frans Malherbe (concussion), Scarra Ntubeni (foot), Pieter-Steph du Toit (knee), Franco van der Merwe (ankle), Arno Botha (knee), Pierre Spies (bicep), Louis Schreuder (hand), Gio Aplon (elbow), Juan de Jongh (pneumonia), Mtawarira, Van der Merwe, Alberts and Goosen (knee)

The players released to their clubs are Gurthro Steenkamp, Schalk Brits, Bakkies Botha, Francois Louw, Morné Steyn, Wynand Olivier and Bryan Habana. (You could include the unavailibility of Frans Steyn, Bekker and CJ Stander, Kitshoff, Elstadt etc)

The number of international class players unavailble to Meyer is staggering really. But will the dopes do anything to try and improve matters.

Expect the Sharks Bok front row to be played into the ground bar any injuries . Willie Le Roux plays every game as does Jean and Allende etc. Top players get no relief bar from being injured.

Then when Bok players dont perform it's because they are useless!

When will we be able to see the wood from the trees. We have to change and become professionals rather than rank amatuers. This is hugely frustrating stuff from the mongs running SA rugby . Its malema like!

Sharkbok, let me elaborate a bit on your comment:

  1. Send him a dietary supplement for his huge zulu butt, along with a subscription to Virgin Active!
  2. Send him some brains to assist him in reading his Rugby laws book so he doesnt forget to be a good boy next time.
  3. Send him Dean Greylings address so they can both digress on how embarrassing they are when they don the Green and Gold!
  4. If all else fails, send him to France.

It was not only the Welsh game - what about the test at Ellis Park last year and the fact that dear Flippie just came back from a three week ban.   Not only the cards - this guy collects penalties like it is his favourite occupation.
Flippie needs a few cards - the yerllow ones preferably and of course the Laws of Rugby book - however, I am not sure whether he would take in what he reads. and I doubt whether it  will help in this case.
Hope he gets ewell soon though - with Willemse going the Bulls will need him badly - since dear Victor will bring no muscle power to the Bulls forward pack.      .

 You know Mike...
Reading your comments over the past 3 years, it makes me wonder how we are still the second best rugby team in the world.
You'd swear we are dangling down at number 10, the way you carry on.

I think you need to change your name to Dr Craven.

If the IRB and/or national organizations don't restructure the season to reduce the number of games and playing time it would not surprise me if there is a player strike of some type after the RWC.
