Probably one of his most famous quips was when the following happened:-

Lady Astor (who disliked him intensely)  :  "Winston you are drunk"

Churchill   :  "Lady Astor you are ugly.   Tomorrow I will be sober"

Another funny one in the SA Parliament was the following-

Walter Madley was a Labour Member of Parliament and Minister of Labour under General Smuts.

National Party Member :   "The Honourable Minister reminds me of a dung Beetle"

Madeley responded  :   "In making that remark the Honourable member must have remembered the number of times I rolled him over the carpet of this House."

Churchill was definitely a good Prime Minister - however he made his name originally  when he was a Prisoner of War during the Anglo-Boer War when he in fact was a war correspondent - not a soldier.   One of the Boers sympathised with him on that account and helped him to escape.  On his return to England he wrote story after story about his daring and bravery during the escape - later to be proved hogwash.   But then he aimed to enter politics - so what else could one expect from an aspirant politician.
