"Whilst attack off 9 is very important these days the linkage between 9 and 10 is equally as important.

The term linkage means that the attack shape off 9 and the attack shape off 10 are linked and the defence have to defend both areas of the line – the ruck and the next transition line.

The classic example is when you have 2 runners off 9 with 10 then being flat enough to receive the ball having both inside and outside options available.

The defence needs to jam on the runners off 9 and that leaves space for the 10. If they don’t jam then the option is on for the 9.

The Springboks in 2007 were terrific at this."

All I can tell you i swith Fourie Du Preez and Morne Steyn and indeed Spiesies not posing an attacking threat the defensive effort of opposition teams could concentrate more on our centers,

Sarel, Sias  Ebersohn, Ashley Johnston and of course Riaan Viljoen were the focus of the Cheetahs attacking ability last year in th Super 15.

We need half backs that pose a threat on attack and we have them.

Sarel's defence is almost non-existent. We also still have to see if his move to Aus was to his advantage. If he does not fit in and succeed, that could be the end of his Bok hopes.

Our attack stopped at 12, unless of course our 9 bypassed our Jean/Olivier/de Jongh/Adi and went to a forward. Defences lined up to hit our 12. It was all too predictable.
