wow, what a huge weekend on the cup challenge frontlines, special condolences to rooy and mikey who both fell to their opponents this week. mike lost by 26 pts despite scorting a massive 459, while rooy faced a monster of an opponent who scored 546pts, o_O
oimatey and i made it through to the next round by the skin of our teeth, oimatey won his cup challenge by 2pts and i won mine by 5pts, scary thing is it only gets harder from here, lolz, o_O
well done to all of us though, especially u three foxsport newbies, u ad held in a lot longer then some of the other veterans who have been playing for a while.
but now its up to me and oimatey to carry the sarugby.com flag forward, :o)
foxsport cup update,,,
Sasue
I am very disappointed about my performance in the Cup competition. Although I outcored you by 30 points this round and oi-matey by 20 points - I missed out. I was disappointed in two players in particular - Conrad Smith and Jesse Mogg. Mogg was very good the week before and a disaster in the latest round and I wanted to get rid of Conrad Smith - but coud not because of the Kahui factor. I had to hpoe for the best. And making Robinson my captain was perhaps also a mistake. He really was not up to his normal standards this week.
I have to seriously consider some changes at center - since it is unlikely that Serfontein is going to play again before the Junior WC and Smith is not an option. I have thought of Tamati as an option - but what is the news about his injury on Saturday?
I think - although i do not like to have two players from the same franchise in the same positions - I may go for Foely to replace Mogg this weekend. I have very little faith in the Stormers backline defence though and Folay will be able to run riot again. Might just make him one week too late my captain.
Any news about the return of Afeaki at all? I would like to have him on Board. Either taht or I maus get back to Slipper - although I would not like to do that in view of the round 17 and 18 situation ad the looming threat by Deans to call up the Wallaby players early.
That I assume would mean that we have to replace virtually all the New Zealand players much earlier than Round 17. I doubt very much whether Foley would make that group - hence my going for him. Maybe I should put Aaron Smith in to replace Reinch within the next two weeks and forget about Mog and hope for better in the weeks to come - put him this week on the bench and play Savea - hopeless as he is. I do not think Mogg will make the call up list of Deans. Will have to watch out for that one anyway.
If Deans call up the Wallaby potentials three weeks in advancce - it would damage the Australian teams badly in the Super series. With their players out for five rounds will not be in their favour.
I am basically to go in with the same team for the Test Rugby squad I had for Round 2 - but will replace Robinson with Strauss and Lambie with Foley. I made a mistake with Ranger and that eliminated one of my transfers unnecessarily. If Higginsbottom has to go next week - I will replace him with Labuschagne.
CONGRATLUATIONS FOR YOU AND OI-MATEY FOR CARRYING THE FLAG IN THE NEXT ROUD OF THE CUP COMPEITITION - I AM HOLDING THUMBS FOR YOU IN THAT ROUND. bESTOF LUCK TO YOU TWO.
@mikey,
i wouldnt be disappointed with ur performance, definately some players like conrad & mogg let u down, but u still scored very highly. luck has a role with the cup challeneges, i would never have made it this far if i hadnt had a very easy opponent first round.
i havent heard anything from afeaki, but i think hes going to be missing for a while still as theres been no news from him. slipper IMO is a better option then him, but the wallaby squad factor is an issue.
i dont think making ged captain was a mistake, he still scored 30+ pts and IMO thats the minimu u want ur captain to get. there were some nice options floating around this week for better captain candidates, but choosing ur captain is just as a hard as choosing ur team.
with ged hes like a saftey bet, if ur not sure how players will do in that round, u can always make a safe bet with ged, thats how i see him & the captaincy at the moment.
IMO mogg will be selected for the wallabies, thats coupled with his mid season form slump is why im staying away from him for now.
i havent heard anything about takati ellison, but on sat he had leg cramp which was understandable considering that was his first game back and he made a huge impact.
i think he will be playing and given that its against the kings, IMO hes going to be huge.
another good center option would be jono lance, hes the reds fullback but is classified as a midfileder, i know u may not want to hear this, but i think the reds are going to do a number on the sharks this weekend.
really need to start preparing for the wallaby tour though, i dont want to have to use my wildcard till rnd18, which will set me up nicely for the remaining rounds, :o)
u are struggling with transfers cos of the whole wallaby squad factir, but i was very vocal and adamant about not using that wildcard.
i had to endure a few hardships earlier on cos i didnt have enough transfers, but thats starting to fall into place now.
the very reason ur thinking of picking foley is the very reason i recruited him a few rounds ago, i dont think i will play him this week though, but he will be on my bench.
i am going to be recruiting folau for sure, stormers love the up and unders and folaus going to eat it all up and then some IMO.
stormers will knwo how much of a threat he is now too though so he will be heavily amrked plus travel factor, but would be silly not to pick him.
funny how much were on the same page, cos im thinking of bringing in aaron smith too, but only if i have enough transfers. i have two spare at the moment as im prepping for round 17, but aaron smith is a definate on my shortlist, especially against the tired kings.
labuschange is back in the team this week from my bench, but im looking to get rid of englebrecht for cane, englebrecht and the kings are starting to look very tired.
