Are there any little tricks of the trade to being competitive in this game?

There must be.

Would appreciate a little input.

Feel free to revealing all your secrets.

@cleancut,

each to their own, but for me,,,,

i look for props and hookers who wil go through a lot of tackles as front rowers get 2 points per tackle. the rough average IMO that a player scores is round about 25 give or take 4pts, so if they get 10 tackles thats an easy 20 points.
IMO pumas will be on the defensive more often then not against the SANZAR superpowers,,,,,,hint hint.

9 times out of 10 the hooker is in the top 3 for most points score in ateam, so they are a popular captain choice as their score will get doubled.

during the spXV there were certain players who IMO were must haves for any team and of those that are participating in the spXV,,,,
steven luatua
james bieber
connie oosthuizen
james slipper
israel folau
dan carter
liam gill

if u expect a team to score heaps of tries, selecting outside backs who will prob score is not a bad thing. try assists, line breaks and tackle breaks are all good points earners.
its why folau was such a hit, but then u have to weigh up, will he be that effective against the No1 team in the world, hmmmmmmmm, o_O
again, IMO the pumas offer the SANZAR teams a good chance to rack some tries.

select players on ur bench who are not only playing but starting, this will ensure that if anything happens to any player in the last minute, u will still get a chance to earn good points as the system automatically swaps players around who arent playing.

also u get 6 transfers per round, so if u want to gamble and put a player on the bench whose not playing this week, but might be playing in the team next week and save urself a transfer, thats all good.
i can see myself doing this with carter, but the reality is i dont think i will take the risk and just transfer him in using one of the 6.

Cleancut The issue here is basically to select the squad that you think would earn you the most points - just like in Test Rugby. However, the squad is a full one with a total of 23 players of which 5 are in the starting line up and 8 on the bench. You get only $6 000 000 to select all the 23 players and the question is - how do you do it bearing in mind the fact that you will be allowed a minimal number of changes per week after the initial selection. You must also bear in mind that forwards get a preference in point allocation and the same amounts to goal kickers. In general locks and centers are not top point scorers unless they do goal kicking. Another point of view is the opposition and the chances of victory of teams. All-in-all the issue of bench selection is a toughie. The bench is where you can save money by selecting cheap players too off-set player cost. However, that is one way to look at it. The other way is to bear in mind that if you have strong candidates on the bench - who is likely to play regularly - it is an advantage, since once on the bench and the player becomes selected - a change of players from the bench to the starting line-up does not represent a transfer - which is deductible from your weekly list of transfers. One other issue I have borne in mind is performances by players and point scorers in Super 15. That is where Labuschagne was the miracle kid. He was cheap and regularly the top point scorer amongst the loosies throughout the season. Was in fact written up as the top selection in fantasy games in Australia and New Zealand by their media. We unfortunately do not have Labuschagne to fall back on here - but Luatua (another top point scorer) is suddenly in the mix. Another good pick in Super 15 was always James Slipper and Moore. I quietly bore the players mentioned in mind - in my present line of thinking. I am struggling thus far - because of the serious financial constraints - but try and put on the bench players who are actually starting in the teams as announced or at least on the bench for this round. I have not finalized my team as yet and am still thinking about combinations - but here is the team that I am thinking of at present:- PR - Owen Franks, James Slipper - bench Juan Figallo HO - Steven Moore - bench Adriaan Strauss LO - Eben Etzebeth, Patricio Albacete - bench Rob Simmons LF - Kieran Read, Francois Louw, Steven Luatua - bench JM Fernandez Lobbe SH - Aaron Smith - bench Martin Landajo FH - Aaron Cruden - bench Nicholas Sanchez CE - JJ Engelbrecht, Jean de Villiers - bench Marcelo Bosch OB - Willie le Roux, Ben Smith, Israel Folau - bench Jesse Mogg The above shows my dislike for players like the AB centers and even the Wallaby ones - the reason is that they were on average poor in Super 15 especially. But you may rate them and that is where you can change. My bank balance after selection of the above is ZERO - so that is how far I can go.. The other issue is the captaincy - once you have your squad - pick from there a captain - important because the points of the captain is doubled. The easy way is always to pick a flyhalf or hooker for that one - but my provisional captain is Ben Smith at this stage. Hope the above is of some help to you.

Thank you Sas!!!!!

Thank you Mike!!!

Appreciate it!!

Must say I had a few of your suggestions figured.

One more question ... if you don't mind. What happens if they've chalked up a player as a lock and he ends up playing as say a loosie. Will I still score points if I select him out of position??

You guys are definitely talking the same language.

I have taken note.

Onward to make my picks.

Goooooooooooo CleeeeeeeeanCutttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!

Oh and by the way .... I don't have Lobbe down on my team sheet. Is he playing?

I thought he was out injured.

Cleancut Two issues - once a player starts in a team - irrespective of the position in which he is selected - you score points. If he is given as a lock and he plays as a loosie - it does not matter. Second thing - Lobbe is an insurance policy - he is out this game - but likely to return soon. I picked him as it would reduce my transfers in future rounds. I will always have him in my team if he plays - so that is just a way of saving on future limited transfers. If he plays in the next test - he goes in and Luatua (likely to be replaced by Messam in the next test) ends up on the bench - see what I mean?.

I see ... that's clever.

So does that mean that my subs only score points if the play. If they've gone through the match without ever running onto the park ... they score zilch??

Actually ... that's a stupid question ... you have already answered it.

If I have a sub who in fact starts I get points.

So it's a matter of tactical selections on the bench that may come to aid me in later rounds.

Sounds like transfers are also of importance.

 Correct.

i only signed up half way thru the season for s15 but as you can see already it an be tricky when fox sports lists players out of position, eg o'connor & the Pumas hooker. Sometimes it works to your advantage. O'connor was listed as a fly half last time I checked & altogh I want to select him I don't want to use a half spot.

Many times the difference is scores between players gets down to picking the right captain. Not always the best player but usually a front rower who makes a lot of tackles.

good luck to you mate, it's fun & we all learn as we go. Luck plays a role also ;)

@cleancut,

errrr got a little lost following u and mikeys exchanges, but ur fantasy bench players dont score any points at all, unless a player in that position in ur starting team dosent play for whatever reason.
bench is kind of like the insuracne policy in testrugby, but being tactically clever means u can use it to also lighten the transfer burdens the following week.

and codgers??? is that like the male cougars??? LMAO, :oP

Ok ... I think I got it.

There'll probably be additional questions once I get the first round behind me.

Till then ... good luck to you all.

Clown, my advice, buy cheapos for your bench so you can afford the players you want in your starting XV.

Also, in this particular Foxsport comp, we should have more than enough transfers. There are no byes like in Super Rugby so 6 transfers per round is plenty, plus you still get a wildcard (unlimited transfers for one round) in the unlikely event that you do run out of transfers one week.

Just one word of warning, don't waste your money selling a player if you intend to buy him back at a later stage. When you sell a player, you automatically lose 50% of the profit you made on him so you don't get his full current price, but when you buy him back you're buying him back at the full price.

PS Sasuke, have you entered a English Premiership Fantasy team on Fox and, if so, what league are you in?

I just try to find the weakest link among my kids and then try to bribe them for a peek at their selections ,it does seem to back fire a lot however as at present I have a win rate against my kids equal to that of the Poms vs the ABS !

At least now they know who the ABs are although they have yet to watch a whole game of Rugger ,they do know the mechanics of FF rather well and can tell you who plays in what position although they dont know what actualy happens in that position !

As for guys like me it gives a little insightb into players we usualy know little or nothing about ,like the Argies .
