It is interesting how statistically players are ratd by Foxport - there ratings are based on their stats which largely corresponds with the ESPN Scrum stats - with te difference they assign points to each activity.  I have looked at the top SA players above position 16 - bearing in mind the 15 teams playing.

Props

The following players are in the top 15:-

 2    Schalk Ferreira                    -       211 points

 6   Tendai Mtawariri                   -      178 points

 7   Trevor Nyakane                    -      175 points

11  Coenie Ossthuizen               -      159 points

Coenie did not play full games he came off the bench most of the times - so it is likely that he would have done much better with more game time.    Just outside the top 15 is Adriaanse with 150 points.

Hookers

  3   Adriaan Strauss                 -       286 points

  4   Deoan Fourie                   -       262 points

  6   Chilliboi Rallepele              -       212 points

  7  Kyle Cooper                       -        206 points

  9  Bandiso Maki                    -         177 points

No `1 and 2 positions are filled by Geb Robinson amd Moore - both very good  - but personally i rate Strauss higher than those two players.   The real eye-opener is Kyle Cooper - who had less playing time than any of the players above him and I rate him higher than Fourie.

Loosies

This include flanks as well as no 8.s - since a number of players can play in the relevant positions:-

   1   Lappies Labuschagne       -       276 points

   3   Jacques Engelbrecht        -       224  points

5   Philip van der Walt           -        219 points

6   Wimpie Van der Walt       -        218 points

  10  Cornell du Preez              -        206 points

  12   Marcell Coetzee              -       196  points

Not surprsingly it is the Cheetahs and Kings players that predominate in this case.   The loosies invited to the training camp - other than Coetzee are really not near the top performers:-

 25   Arno Botha                      -         179 points

 28   Pierre Spies                    -         168 points

32   Duane Vermeulen           -         147 points

38   Siymathanda Kolisi         -         124 points

Scrummies

   1  Cobus Reinach               -          115 points

   5   Sarel Pretorius               -          103 points

   8  Jano Vermaak               -             71 points

Flyhalfs

   4   Patrick Lambie              -          199 points

   8   Morne Steyn                 -          164 points

   9   Dmitri Catakillis            -          137  points

  14  George Whitehead       -            90  points

Steyn's weakness in playing attacking rugby counts against him in this case.

Centers

   2   Robert Ebersohn          -         192  points

   7   Paul Jordaan               -          152 points

  10  Johan Sadie                -          137 points

  11  Ronald Cooke             -          131 points

   13  Jan Serfontein           -          110 points

I rate Serfontein much higher than the above layers - but he had comparatively less gme time than they had.

Wings and Full backs

They are rated jointly sine players can often enough play at fu back and on the wing.

We have no players rated above 12 in this category.

SUMMARY

Looking at the above - it is surprising how few of the top rated players have uin fact being invited to Meyer' training camp.   The only two players rated no 1 from SA teams (Labuschagne and Reinach) was not invited by Meyer - and Reinach was aksed to attend because the favoured scrummies were injured.     In some case he threw the form book out and just invited some other players with bad form and nothing to show this year.

Basically I know the ratings are not a 100% indicatio of performances - but over the first half of the competition
