The fact that they drew is in a way a positive - but there are some real problems  in the team that played today.
Top performances
I would say that only Pieter-Steph du Toit, Ulendo and Rohan Janse van Rensburg could be classified as top performers.
Satisfactory performances
In this category I would put Venter, Lambie, Smit, and the props.
Problematicc Performances
The worst performance of today was by Sergeal Petersen.   Aside from his atrocious defense - his  ball handling was on the same level,    He is physically not up to standard.
Other than Smit the other two loosies were rarely seen and there were serious problems - only Smit made a contribution in that regard.
Snyman at lock was also a disappointment.   His contribution was minimal.

I missed the first half- but the top performers could find themselves starting next week in the test against England.
The backline performance was certainly an improvement- probably the result of Franco Smith.
Lambie was solid- and is almost certain to start at 10.
Rohan was good- as may start at 12. Venter might be at outside centre.
Ulengo was good- but Sergeal Pieterson had a good try where he ran good lines to organise supporting runners to draw defenders
Van Zyl brought some fast tempo- and attacked the advanced line.
Trevor Nyakane and Lizo Gqoboka contributed well. The first time I have seen Gqoboka play and he looked the part.
Smit should start and seems to be relatively effective at the breakdown. Steph Dutoit was consistent- and contributes to the breakdown efforts.
The rest were most for the most part useless.

Lizo Gqoboka is much better than the useless Adriaanse. Can't the coaches see this?
Gqoboka can catch, pass and run- (and scrum).  Adriaanse is absolutely useless- he has no place in the modern game

To compare this team with Barbarian teams of the past is a mistake, it's a SH "c" team.....and Tok is celebrating a draw?

Those are as per normal seriously defective comments and one has to wonder where you got that statement from?    Have you got any proof to support that statement of the Barbarians of the past?
I am not celebrating anything - merely stated before that the record of the SA team against the Barbarians in the past has been poor - I can clearly remember the 2013 match - in which the SA team was made up of most of the Meyer elderly and lost badly.

Thanks - I do appreciate that there were some excellent NZ and Aussie players in that team - but there were also relative unknowns.   Since you quoted the Barbarians team  - what about the SA team?
Was it also made up of a few Springboks and mostly other players?

 We learnt a lot yesterday.
For a bunch of youngster ... in their first outing together ... under Coetzee ... I thought they did rather well.
Our back row let us down but that's because we were expecting much from boys that don't really have what it takes to play at this level.
We needed them to dominate the break down and provide us with the necessary front foot ball. We would have benefited immensely from it had they done so. We played with scraps and did well in retrospect.
Players like Jaco Kriel, Du Preez and Whiteley would most certainly have made a big difference.
So sad to see Kriel miss out.
Pieter Steff Du Toit ... what an amazing player. He is no doubt our best lock and an absolute must start in every test.
The team needs a little tweak here and there. At 14, 9, 6, 7, 8, 3 as well as our bench replacements needs a serious look.

It was a weak barbarian side when compared to Barbarian sides in the past.Weakest Bok loose trio I have ever seen. Adriaanse is not test standard. Snyman did disappoint. Paige is not remotely in the class of Faf or Van Zyl or Shaun Venter.
Pietersen is a joke,
Willie is still our best fullback.
Bright spots re new players were Rohan and Ulengo.
If all our best players were fit and selected and we had a top flight coach a very good Bok side could be selected. However lack of brain power and racist policies will endure we do not perform at our best by some way.
wee cc saying Moz is again running down the team is rich!!!!!

Didn't watch the game yet but good to see Coetzee is willing to test young players out to see what they have to offer. The Barbarians game is the perfect opportunity to do so. Funny how they call games "friendlies" when in fact only the Barnarians game can be considered as such.

"Worst Baabas team", what a joke...such a disgraceful comment.

I guess you interpret the word young as useless, such a shame.
This team alone would cause headaches to even the best national sides, including this weekend's New Zealand.
Oh, and by the way, a draw is still better than a loss in my book, something that's been quite common this year.

I'm gonna repeat myself: NINE-UNCAPPED-PLAYERS. Did it finally got stuck on your head?

But you fools have been telling us all these uncapped players should be capped.....hoist by your own petard. I'm fine with young players who deserve to be there and have a chance of succeeding. Like Rohan, who I have consistently supported for inclusion in the team. Not like Pietersen you were whining for....because he obviosly is too small. Like Lambie is too small. venter is too slow, Jantjies is tooo nervous and Kriel is too small. Grow up punk.

You look like a scratched disk, puking the same stuff over and over.
And Venter scored a try, just fast enough to support Ulengo...what a snail!

So Ulengo was flat out throughout that run? I have seen locks supporting wings, that's no evidence. Time will be the judge and just you have finally figured out Peterson isnt going to make it ....even you will finally figure out Venter is no test centre. I have won so many of these debates against you starry eyed groupies I don't bother to count.

Why? Because you are touting a slow 25 year old chap as a Bok centre? Centres arrive young...Henshaw is 22 or 23 and has a few years under his belt. Too slow and too old to become anything other than a place holder.

And you poor fools have been telling us that the over-the-hill players are test material.  The upshot was Japan last year = a disgrace by all accounts.   The Babaas team yesterday would have done something the Springboks could not do last year = they would have beaten Japan.
There is nothing wrong at looking at the future and take valuable lessons from the past - but to live in the past is destructive.

The truth in fact is that Mozart wanted Fats Fransie at 12 ... ahead of Janse van Rensburg. He couldn't find a spot for the best 12 in the country. Hard to believe I know but that's Mozart for you.
His "Like Rohan, who I have consistently supported for inclusion in the team"  is just another one of his many lies. He told so many already that he can't seem to keep up with it all.
One gets use to it, I suppose. He's made his name tottie so many times it's just not funny. What cracks me up is that he honestly thinks he should be taken seriously.
As an example ... he's been trying to sell us the proven failure of De Jongh as our Bok 13 for the last umteen seasons ... with wondrous tales of how he organises defences ... blah, blah, blah.
That all changed when the All Blacks thrashed us in Durban. Now suddenly De Jongh is no longer the saviour of Bok rugby. Not a mention of his former hero in any further posts.
Haaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaaaa!!!
We were also told by this same fool what an incredible player Morne is. He was apparently the man to take us forward. This too didn't last ... especially not after the All Blacks cleaned us up.

Bye, bye Morne ... hello Fats Fransie. Bye, bye Juan ... hello Rohan.
Mozart doesn't know his arse from his elbow. He's a mor0n second to none on this board. All bluster with f0kol binnegoed.  A right d00s.
Sadly the d00s will always taint society. No matter where you go, you'll find them and ours just so happens to be this twat.
Francois Venter is a class act. It was great to see him take up his spot at 13. He has sufficient pace at 13, a good step, is defensively strong and has an incredible rugby brain. It's good to have a player with an understanding of the sport. A natural 13 and not another retreaded outside back.
I hope he and Rohan are left to mature there. I would also love to see Harold Vorster brought in to keep these two on their toes.
Oh and do not be surprised if you see Mozart suddenly claim to have always supported Franscois Venter.

I differ virtually all the time from Mozart  - mostly trying to be civil until he turns vicious and that happens whenever he is proven to be wrong.
However, one has to realize his approach in dealing with issues.   Whenever an SA team does well - he decries the opposition as not being up to standard - whenever they win and he can praisse certain players and the opposition team is sub-standard - then the sub-standard nature is not an issue.   Typical examples are -
*    the  game on Saturday; and*     the third place play-off in the WC last year.
When the SA Teams lose he is quick to blame the players he dislikes and protect the inadequacies of his favourites,    The Japan test and semi-final last year in the WC are typical examples.
Now how is the prejudice against players developed in Mozart's line of thinking?   Any player who threatens his favourites in the Springbok squad is automatically demonized and ran down.   He absolutely believe on that basis applied to Pieter-Steph du Toit and a long list of other players.    The thin shoulders and wrists and long neck of Du Toit are just an example to what low level Mozart will descend in his criticism.
In his line of thinking there is another constant - when an SA team lost or struggled in games the answer is that the reason for the loss or problems is that they played NZ rugby - which they are not able to do.   So it is very predictable - in the Irish series they played different rugby from the traditional SA game plan.   When they win they played the traditional SA way.
In the AB test in Durban for example the Traditional SA Rugby story did not feature - Mozart blame certain players for missing more than one tackle - but left out of his list two of his favourites - claiming that the ESPN stats were changed after he made the posting - that statement is debatable since I posted a thread earlier stating the defensive record of these tw o players.   However, he did not mention the number of tackles made as against the number of tackles missed - so a player who made 7 tackles missing 2 is in the same category than a player making 14 tackles and missing 2.
If this was confined to rugby - fine - but it relates to cricket as well.   His main criticism for two years was against De Kock and that started after De Kock replaced Smith in the ODI squad.   He is slightly less critical off De Kock recently - but the slightest mistake of De Kock is criticized endlessly.
Knowing exactly what to expect from Mozart's repetitiveness  - perhaps I am too harsh in my responses  and should show some respect and I would like others to do the same.   Maybe in the approaching season of goodwill - we should extend our goodwill to him as well.

Well ... it's good that you keep exposing him and his conjured nonsense.
I know this frustrates him endlessly ... hence all the latest name calling.
As for showing respect ... to my mind respect is earned ... it should never just be dished out for the sake of it ...
Respect is also something you receive. It's a two way street. Give and take. Not you forever giving ... and him forever receiving ... without returning any of it.
It's your choice if you wanna go that route.
Not me. He is a d00s of note and I'm pleased I do not know him personally.
How well he and Denise suit each other.

I tried in the past to make peace with Mozart - but he did not kept his side of the bargain.   After three requests/pleas with him to stop his personal remarks - I deided that he was beyond reform of his attitude.
However, that does not stop a gentleman like myself to keep trying to get to more amicable terms again and again - but whether it will work out is doubtful in view of Mozart's past record.

Guess which centre got selected May 28, 2016, 21:14:06 Centre A, carried the ball 11 times for 108 metres, 3 clean breaks 2 defenders beaten, two tries and an assist. 2 11 2 3 2 - 1 1 10 Centre B carried the ball 3 times for 4 metres and nothing else worth reporting. - 4 3 - - 1 - 1 - - To add to the picture Centre A beat Centre B with ease to set up his try assist. July 13, 2016, 15:57:33 Our centres were almost irrelevant against Ireland....only one barging run by Allende in our second test revival counted. Finding a centre pairing that functions remains our most pressing selection problem....even more pressing than tighthead or flyhalf. So far this year we have regressed at 8th man, fullback, tighthead, blindside .....and certainly centre. We have only found new answers at scrumhalf and right wing. But centre is by far our biggest issue. We were pretty hopeless at the WC where defensive lapses by Allende and Kriel were big contributors to our Japan and NZ losses. And on attack they did almost nothing....they could simply find no way to insert themselves in the action. Their best contributions were a few turnovers by Allende in the NZ game. But if their WC was bad....now they are worse! Kriel totally toothless at centre for the Bools is back at fullback....you can forget about him as a centre. Allende seems uncertain...robotic. The most striking feature about this player is the ability to lose what he previously did well. He was good at offloads last S15....never seen again. At the WC he was good at turnovers...he hardly contests the downed ball anymore. Last year he could break tackles....this year he is regularly stopped by the first tackler. Rather than adding new skills, he seems to lose old skills. No doubt Allende was the brightest new prospect for years, with all the physical attributes. But mentally he seems to be a slow learner, uncertain and quick to lose confidence. His ability to create anything via the pass is about zero right now. Step in the meantime continues to be dog ordinary. Esterhosen is a big clumsy fellow, who doesn't really look test class, but in a centre famine may have to be considered. Mapoe and de Jongh can fill in...but aren't the long term answer. It's bleak. About the only bright spot is van Rensburg who dominated Step before the international break and continues to score tries and make big metres. But his defensive stats aren't great....and he is playing in a dominating team. Still he looks to be the best new option and the one player that generates some enthusiasm. Edit post 0 Likes
