I hope Wayne Barnes is not going to try and ingratiate himself with the Kiwis. So many penalties against France thus far.

Bent Read turning it over to frogs twice. Crude cracking under goal kicking pressure - has missed 2

Hard luck frogs you deserved the result. Forward pass ab try and French knocking the ball on and not scoring were the crtical moments although one other French knock on could also have cost them a try as well.

French dominated much of the second half. First half roughly even.

Strangely it was French handling errors that cost them. Cant see too much in the ab forwards.Back couldnt score once in second half as French shut them down.

Don't know what game you were watching, AB's absolutely dominant, even in 4th gear...just toying with the French as they do with the opposition before turning on the turbo's, like they did in SA last year in the 2nd game of the RC. Can see Boks dreading the coming AB encounter again.

Why am I not coninced about the All Blacks performance in the test?  The All Blacks won - but their game was what I would call a mess.   I would say that the only two All Blacks that made the grade was Ben Smith and Sam Cane - the rest went from being average to really messy.

I forecasted that there are a number of players that should not have been in the team and was very near the mark in most cases.  The one exception was Nonu - but he only had one really significant linebreak - while he alo had a few very weak defensive errors.

If I had to rate the All Blacks - would rate the player as follows:-

  *   Dagg - Very average - nothing much in evidence in attacking play.

  *   Ben Smith - brilliant player - an 8 out of 10 candidate

  *   Conrad Smith - nothing to wrtie about in attack - flawed badly in defence.

  *   Nonu -  one really good linebreak - but making a number of ball carrying mistakes as well and his defence was questionable.

  *   Savea  -  average performance

  *   Cruden - missed penaty kicks (40%) and did very little other than the successful conversions.

  *   Aaron Smith - Good follow-up in respect of the try - otherwise average

  *   Reid - not imp[ressive - but he gave away crucial penalties and can at best be described as average

  *   Cane - very impressive - 7 out of 10 candidate

  *   Messam - was he in fact playing?????

  *   Romano - good in line-outs, some evidence of successful driving play - but gave away penalties.

  *   Retallick  - average at best

  *   Owen Franks -  Average performance - but not the stronger scrummager around.

  *   Cole - did he actually play????

  *   Crockett - Barnes was extremely kind to him - he did not penalize the constant pressing with the hand on the ground.  Not a scrummagers backside - or perhaps he is.

If this is the type of performance the All Blaks are going to produce this year in the Championship - they must prepare themselves for a number of bad surprises.   They were saved from embarrassment by some poor ball handling by the French - so it could even have been a draw or even a win by the French.

Poly read this and get some perspective!

Rene Ranger was among the few highlights in New Zealand’s 23-13 win against France in Auckland.

The All Blacks led 17-10 at half time  but France dominated field position for most of the match and enjoyed the greater quality in possession. However they couldn’t translate the advantage in the set phase and at the breakdown into points. (Two knock ons cost them tries)

New Zealand defended well in a match of poor quality.

France lead early through Wesley Fofana’s try and it took Ben Smith’s break to start up New Zealand’s international season.

Smith has been the form New Zealand back in Super Rugby and he looked a class above those around him. Ma’a Nonu started poorly but did produce one break to set up the second try and that was as good as it got on attack for the hosts until Rene Ranger’s introduction for Israel Dagg.

Dagg continued his indifferent form and New Zealand looked more dangerous when (Ben) Smith went to fullback and Ranger played on the right wing.

Ranger added impetus to the attack and he again showed the ability to break the first tackle and give the World Champions go forward. Physically he was New Zealand’s most imposing player in attack and it was a Ranger burst that forced a penalty and sealed the match for the All Blacks.

The French coaching staff erred in replacing both their props midway through the second half. France were the stronger in the scrums but the replacement props, among them South African-born Daniel Kotze, struggled.

France captain Thierry Dusautoir missed the tackle on Smith but was very good close to the ruck and Louis Picamoles’s excellent evening will be overshadowed by his dropped pass with the All Blacks tryline just metres away.

The All Blacks were second in physicality in the contact but they produced the individual moments to win the Test.

Cane is a youngster and played like one. He is no Richie McCaw and Aaron Cruden, for all the media hype, will never be Dan Carter.

The All Blacks have been spoiled to have McCaw and Carter for the last decade and without them the All Blacks are currently a good side but not an exceptional one.

France can’t complain about the refereeing of Wayne Barnes, and neither can New Zealand. The difference was New Zealand maximised two line breaks and France did not take the many chances they created through winning the collisions.

Beeno only perspective I care about is mine. I realize this is a SA rugby site, so perspectives by SA posters regarding the AB's are going to be skewed heavily in SA favor. Every AB performance is dissected and broken down by Bok fans/posters to show the negatives/weakness's in the AB game and then extrapolated to how the AB's are on the downslide while the Boks are pumped up as THE team..ignoring statistics between the 2 of course. So it warms my heart to see the same pattern continuing. However your last post was ALMOST complimenatry towards the end.

The sheer DESPERATION of Saffers to see the ABs lose is pathetic! You really have to face facts.....the ABs are a good side so give credit where it's due. Yes, I mean you Hasbeeno and Mike!

polyboy I am the most critical of posters on this site. You obviously have seen how many times I have criticized severely the SA sides - inclusive of the Springboks. But I have to admit - I expected much more from the All Blacks than they produced against the French. It must e borne in mind that this is the side that was bottom of the 6 Nations log - with a history of poor performances this year. If the AB's could not deal with them much more comprehensively than they in fact did - there are indeed problems in the team make up. The problem was - s I pointed out earlier - that some players from New Zealand franchises were poor in Super 15 thus far this year - yet was selected to play for the AB's. I thought that they would have to up their game substantially when playing for the AB's - but other than Nonu ( who himself has been far from perfect) and Aaron Smith (who at least scored a try - but for the remainder was far from perfect) none of the players concerned improved in their performances compared to what they produced in Super 15. The players I said who were poor in Super 15 are the following:- Dagg, Conrad Smith, Nonu, Aaron Smith, and Messam. Those with patchy performances in Super 15 were - Savea, Cruden, the Frank brothers and Crocket None of the above - other than to a lesser extent Conrad and Aaron Smith - showed anything better than their questionable performances in Super 15. I think that there are better players than some o the established players in the AB squad and Hansen should consider carefully whether they still need some of the present under-performers - especially if the other two tests this month produces the same kind of player performances . Matter of fact there were very few players in the test team of this round that was really comparable to the great players of the past and Cruden is definitely not a Carter and Messam is not a loosie in the class of McCaw. I realize it is not the norm in New Zealand to criticize the AB's as is done by SA supporters in not sparing criticism of the Springboks and my objective really is to open up a critical discussion and see what there is to learn from that.- in other words would could be done to the benefit of the AB's. An under-achieving All Black team is not in the interest of world rugby.

So the AB's playing together the first time after almost 5 months struggled against a team who played together the whole 6 nations tournament

Spooony They did not rise and shine for sure. My problem is not so much with the team performance as a whole - Hannes must certainly not be impressed. Quite a number of players showed very indifferent form in Super 15 and they remained in that category if their performance in this test is taken into account. The top performer for the AB's was Ben Smith - HE ALSO WAS A TOP PERFORMER IN SUPER 15.

Wehe! I see Baboon-ou spent the whole day getting everything wrong!

He started jerking away at his pitifully small little gherkin when France scored early in the NZ vs France game before being reduced to an embarrassed silence after about 20 minutes; then he did the exact same thing in the Reds vs Lions game and then he did it all over again in the Scotland vs Samoa game.

It's honestly embarrassing having this blithering idiot as a fellow Springbok supporter. Baboon-ou, can't you emigrate or something?

Well, I think it's stretching it a bit to consider your clumsy and ignorant comment a "jibe" in the strict sense of the word but, semantics aside, the fact remains that I certainly considered you stupid enough to take you seriously . . . so I can understand why you're a bit embarrassed.

No, I missed the 'g' altogether due to the speed at which I type. You're not very observant if you think I 'snapped or snarled' at you, I was trying to get a rise out of you (I was trolling you) and looks like I did. To be frank it looks like you're the one whose the very angry (and quite touchy) little doggie!

HawkinS vs HawkinG.

Did you notice the letters in bold or must I draw you a flipping picture with little arrows? That's not a "typo", Spazza, that's more like a "braino".

Now please, just go back to being bored and ignoring me and stop trying so hard to be troll. That way I won't have to treat you like a rather stupid child and you won't make an embarrassing fool of yourself. We both win.
