When Mostert signed with Gloucestor and was available towards the end of October 2018 the club stated that he would not be rushed into playing and he never played for his Club before the end of the November tests on 24 November 2018.

The Club kept to its word and  in the game on 30 November 2018 he was on the bench and in fact played for 8 minutes.  It was a shocking display - one that everyone would prefer to forget.

However, along comes the Champions Cup match this weekend and Mostert was totally absent from the Gloucester team - not even on the bench.   Why was that?   Was it because -

*    he was so poor in the 8 minutes he played for Gloucester in the game when eh played for 8 minutes; or

*    is he injured and not available for selection.

Our fundi's on site may know whether he has an injury problem - please provide info if he is not available because of injury.    I am following the Springbok players when playing for their NH clubs.     His first effort from the ench was a shocker - he was totally poor every minute he played for 8 minutes in the game for Gloucester and that may be the reason for non-selection y esterday.

Of course you would like there to be all kinds of sinister reasons for Mostert not playing for the Gloucester. And of course you would make your own deductions that suit your own dodgy agenda. Fact is that the truth is much simpler than that. The Lions cannot accept that they have lost him and are trying to put a spoke in the Gloucester wheel. https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/lions-south-africa-rugby-refuse-2286106

Thanks for that info - that is what I was looking for.   I wondered why he is not playing for Gloucester as he has a contract with them and there was nothing in the SA media about that story.   What I did see was how poor he was when he did played for 8 minutes - each minute he played was a disaster for Gloucester and I was wondering whether that was the reason for his absence from the team this week.

I read the article and as I said there was nothing about it in the local media at all.   I think this is a skyscraper.   Mostert may in fact have broken his Lions contract by leaving for Gloucester before 31 October - but that would not count in any court.  He was supposed to play for the Lions CC teams a few times until the third week in October and I am not sure whether he in fact did.

It is already December 2018 and way past the termination date of Mostert contract on 31 October 2018 - so there is nothing legally stopping Mostert playing for Gloucester at this stage.  So the question still remains - why is he not playing for Gloucester?     ,

...against the odds yesterday Gloucester beat Exeter and the remarkable thing about that win is that Gloucester rested so many of their big name players (some on the bench) like their top try scorer Sharples,...also Twelvetrees, Slater, and Jason Woodward ...

The thinking behind it is that Ackerman may have had an eye on the more winnable return match at home six days later...  so maybe Ackerman is also saving Mostert and Kriel for next week..?
