Francois Botha Tests Positive For Two Banned Substances.

Fairfax Media stated Sunday night that Botha's blood tested positive for banned stimulant Phentermine after a sample was taken last Tuesday.

An ASADA spokesman said the body was not in a position to make a formal comment on the issue but typically boxing title fights fell out of their jurisdiction.

Williams deservedly defeated Botha on points at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last Friday, but was out on his feet in the 10th round when the fight ended despite everyone believing it was a 12-round contest.

Fairfax's report did not mention which body tested him and how the results were returned in five days.

However, International Boxing Federation committee member John Hogg said  "I sent Frans for a complete medical which tested him for hepatitis and AIDS etc but that is the only testing required of professional boxers," Hogg told The Courier-Mail.

The report suggests results of a blood sample submitted by the 44-year-old South African in Brisbane last Tuesday under WBA regulations show he had Phentermine - a banned stimulant - in his system.

The drugs test, which has now been forwarded to the WBA's global headquarters in Panama, also detected Benzodiazepine, which suggested Botha was also using a valium-type product.

Williams' manager, Khoder Nasser, was the promoter of the fight night last Friday and did not respond to requests from The Courier-Mail for comment on the doping test claim against Botha.

Hogg said Nasser could have asked Botha to submit to further testing. "But Frans could also rightly refuse,' he said. "Then again, what is the point of testing a fighter on a Tuesday if you only get the result after the fight.

"The only way he would have been tested is if Nasser made him but then which body would Nasser have got to do it?"

Hogg refuted Botha's claims that the South African though his fight was meant to last 12 rounds.

"It was agreed to 10 before the fight and both camps knew it," Hogg said. "I knew about it being reduced to 10 and so did all the officials and ring staff.

"For Botha to suggest he thought it was 12 is ridiculous."

tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk,,,,

sasuke is shaking his head in disgust and failing miserably at hiding the look of contempt on his face,,,,

LMFAO, :oD

im just kidding boys, i mean if i was a saffa going up against a kiwi, i would take a shit load of drugs too, LMFAO, :oP

but seriously, theres always two sides to the story, so im dying to hear what bothas camp has to say.

This has nothing to do with rugby anyway.  The fat slob is not a boxer's arase and as far as I know his reidence is in Australia - where bad habist are easy to pick up.

By the way in SA we do not hus drug abuse up - what happens in New Zealand?  How about making a study of  the escapades of Jonah Lomu.   Don't tell m the Nw Zealand Boar did not know he was an abuser.  How many othrs are there?

I think they(sports bodies) should list all of the banned suplements, and then rate them on the order of performance enhancing. (This will help prove to what degree an athelete has cheated, if at all)

Bjorn Basson and Chillyboy were clearly not guilty of knowingly taking banned substances. Also the substances they took have been taken on and off the list of banned substances so they were hardely "performance" ehancing.

It is just trash talk putting them in the same category as a sportsman that is taking steroids or other drugs that truely enhance performance and is cheating.

-

In this particular instance, their should be a 2nd opinion. The event organisers do look to be using this as a means to take away the heat from them for changing the length of the fight.

Mike your attitude confuses me, in light of another SA athlete taking PEDs, rather than condemn the cases of documented drug use in SA, even if some of the incidents may have had extenuating circumstances you instead decide to go on the offensive and toss an accusation at a New Zealand athlete who has never had a failed test despite testing at the top level and also has nothing really to do with the latest Francois Botha saga, expected more from you to be honest.

The fact that F Botha was fighting a former All Black I'd say makes this string a comfortable fit for a rugby board - I'm suprised you're only commenting on it's suitability for a rugby forum only when the South African athlete involved in the fight has embarrasingly been found guilty of doping for the second time, I've not found any of your objections to this content on any of the other Botha/SBW fight strings prior to this one.

When a NZ athlete is found guily of taking a banned substance I'll say post all the criticisms you like and I'll join you in condemnation of that athlete, until then it would be a classier move for you just to condem doping in sport.

This must be quite embarrassing for parochial half-wits like Baboon-ou who always slag off the Kiwis and Aussies and likes to pretend South African sporting failures are always because of poor refereeing or drug abuse.

I notice the incredibly cowardly, deceitful and ignorant Baboon-ou has been mysteriously silent on this particular thread!

As ever, the loud-mouthed, juvenile and intellectually-challenged Baboon-ou is one of the few South Africans who actually makes me embarrassed to be a South African.

The whole thing was a complete and utter farce, I felt dirty watching it.  The longer SBW is associated with Khoder Nasser the less credibility he will have.

Khoder Nasser is a known thug but what about Mundine? What are your thoughts on him. He looks a very shady guy too.

I was over in Brisbane for the past 2 weeks and went to this fight (was not my reason for going but it was an event nonetheless) and it was unbelievable how many people want SBW to get knocked out in those final rounds. Was a strange set up because SBW was the crowd favourite pre fight but the crowd was growing thin of his "hugging" tactics every time Botha would counter punch. By the end of the fight, every punch Botha landed was cheered and the crowd was pisd at the shady 2 round cut..We were going to witness the mighty SBW be felled any second and they robbed us of this ;-)

My thoughts were a call came from SBW's corner. There was a long debate in the corner starting round 8. I feel that SBW thought he would clean Botha up in a few rounds. He had never tested his body past a 6th round so it was all new to him and his body was not as experienced as Botha's in the late rounds. He was throwing haymakers every round, plenty of them too and it looked like Botha was just making sure he stayed away from this and he was dragging him into the late rounds. I think SBW told his corner his body is shutting down and he cant go the distance. He is about to drop any minute.

Now with the Roosters NRL club paying his salary and the season starting shortly, they could not afford SBW to be concussed (6 weeks out of contact sport) or knocked out (8 to 12 weeks no contact). 3 months sidelined would cost the club too much money. SBW was visibly out on his feet and they sent a message to the ref to stop at 10. Botha's tactics were clearly to give himself rounds 10 to 12 to drop him and his tactics worked a treat except he was cheated.

Its the same thing as Scotland vs NZL and Scotland lead the game 25-21 after 60 mins but NZL are looking stronger so they stop the game at 60. Cant do that. 80 mins must be played and 12 rounds must be fought unless 1 boxer can physically no longer box or it is dangerous for him to carry on. I agree, the fight was close to being stopped but thats because SBW could not even get his hands up in the end.

The event organiser (that vice president guy. Not Khoda Nasser) said that the first he and the judges knew of the bout being a 10 rounder was at the beginning of the 10th round when the ref called 10th and final! Not a good look for Aussie sport in the wake of all this drug cheating business.

Cant lay blame on just Aus. As I said before, every country in professional sport has people that are testing the system or have at some stage. I am almost positive that NZL, Aus, SA and even minnows like USA and Canada will get a big surprise if they perform a "check up" as Aus has had the balls to do. Its not just the SA and Aus guys that are doing this and NZL are just naturally amazing. That would just be naive and that is a fact. Most of Aus problems are at the club levels as it is coming to light and  I think they are 100% correct. Its the schools and club systems that need the cleaning out.

Saffex, dont waste time watching the bout. Boring as hell. Fast forward to the last 30 seconds and that is all you need to see. Sure you dont want to sit through a prior 30 mins of SBW trying to hug an overweight man. It looked like a boring love story. Can never write the English off as they are scrappers but I reckon SBW would be too much for Freddie Flintoff. Freddie needs more experience. He looked very technically poor in his fight and SBW is looking better. I think SBW would expose him technically and the fight would be over pretty swiftly.

Plenty respect for SBW. He is a great athlete and rugby player but he is not a boxer. He must break free of these surrounding thugs and just play union..

@boklogic,

kohder nassar and mundine are very unpopular in OZ, i use to be one of those that really cant stand them either, but ive noticed first hand the manipulation that OZ media have when protraying nassar and mundine to the public, so i no longer buy what they have to say.
what clubs in the NRL & NZRU have said about khoder is that he is very professional and not once did he mislead them in their dealing with him and his clients, to hear what people who actually deal with them have to say and then here the stories that OZ media portray about them has made me sceptical of them ever since.

only in SA would SBW be considered the crowd favourite, u only need to watch his other boxing matches in OZ to know its never been the case.

but here are some facts about the fight which have popped up since that farce of a night.

-both SBWs and bothas camp plus the officials all knew that the fight was 10rounds.

-rhinus strydom who is bothas promoter admitted that he knew before the fight that the match was 10 rounds.
this kills the notion that the fight was cut down to 10 rounds because SBW was on the ropes, which he was.
it also kills the notion that officials didnt know the match was not 10 rounds, as rhinus was told by the event organisers.

-foxsport boxing journlist uncovered that the media and public were the only ones who were not aware that the fight was no longer 12 rounds.
as a result, betting agencies have paid back all bets.

-khoder nassar confirmed on sunday that he has talked with the WBA and that the match was official.

-botha has tested positive for two banned substances, something he has been found guilty of in the past.

end of the day the match was a farce from top to bottom. i do find it very ironic that botha would cry like a bitch about suypposed rules are not being followed, when in the last two rounds he upd the ante by repeatedly cheating with his free shots on SBW when the ref was calling break. anyone who boxes knows those hits take its toll. he gets busted ofr taking illegal substances AGAIN.
at first i felt sorry for botha, but given everything ever since, that drug taking cheat got his kamuffins.

@oimatey,

im a huge fan of MMA, but it is equally dodgy. chael sonnen tested positive for steroids after his 1sr fight with anderson silva, he still fighting today and even one of the team captains in the current ultimate fighter series.
alister overeem has also test positive for steroids, but was only banned for a month i think it was, so it was nice to see him get knocked back to christmas by big foot.

there are many athletes who test positive for drugs, but like baseball, its either ignored or the penalty is the equivalent of something between being growled at and a smack on the hand.

You probably right in some respects Sasuke but at the end of the day, 2 things become apparent here. 1. Boxing (not just in Aus but in general) is a mugs game. It should be scratched altogether if it cant be run fairly and properly.

2. SBW was seconds from getting dropped by an overweight, 44 year old has been. Who would have thought a fat 44 year old would be fitter than one of the worlds most gifted athletes in his prime.. Boxing scorecards aren't worth a damn in my eyes as its so rigged. Moral victory to Botha. SA vs NZL..NZL on the ropes ;-) Get used to it boys.. 2014 will look the same in the rugby stakes...

p.s..Botha punching after a break is not cool but SBW was no saint either. He did it a few times too. Once on his walk back to his corner after the round bell rang. Maybe Botha just looked fat and cuddly or maybe SBW is infact queer as he seemed to just want to hug the man all fight. Cant blame Botha's frustrations there. Everytime he counter punches he gets hugged. Surely ref needed to deduct points from SBW?? SBW is very predictable. Throw a haymaker, completely miss and go in for a hug. Boring and pussy tactics if you ask me! Had he not been constantly trying to fornicate with Botha, he may not have been punched in the back of the head.

I dont hate SBW. When he gets on a rugby field I think he is awesome but he has no respect as a boxer. If he wants to box, go box with David Chisora, David Haye, Klitschko brothers or someone like that. I mean, he is as much if not more of an athlete as them. Hell, why not even take on Tua or Cameron to warm up..

I heard on the car radio this morning that Botha took an appetite supressant.

All this stuff is purely a diversionary tactic by the kiwis to deflect concerns about their role in the huge oz dopping scandal connected as it is to big crime etc.

Lets face a few facts. Like snapster rightly says sbw fights like a girl and hits like one.

He was scared all evening that Botha would nail him. By the end of the tenth round the coasting Botha had him finished and only the bizarre changing of the 12 rounds to 10 saved him. How many times have we seen down under refs shaft the Boks and our Super 15 sides? Its the same old same old bryce lawrence syndrome.

Sbw williams has to realise he cant box and pack it in. Cooper actually looks to have more talent. However some oak will beat him up and that will be that.

Rooitwit as is his wont will always go for the SA guy - in this case one who has yet to be proven guilty. Man up rooitwit your ab colours are showing again! It appears your embarrassment to be a South African has caused you to become a kiwi supporter! Correction you have been a closet one for years. Bwahhahahahahahaha

Bottom line is - Botha is a cheat and should be removed from the sport

Secondly - if that's the best SBW has to offer then perhaps he should rethink his boxing career before he gets seriously injured.

Comments ex Sport 24:

The Aussies are no doubt trying to deflect the attention away from the embarrassing organising and outcome of this farce of a fight. Let’s assume the story is true. So the guy takes Sleeping Pills (Benzodiazepine) and Diet Pills (Phentermine). How much was actually found in the sample and what kind of an advantage would he get from this? So he’s an ageing boxer, carrying a few extra kilograms before the fight and desperate to get rid of it. Remember the fight was rescheduled from last year on SBW’s request. But then the Aussies would know everything about diet pills (remember Shane Warne before the 2003 world cup) And sleeping pills a stimulant?! Lol, try again. The drug test "result" was the backup plan in case Botha knocked SBW clean out, then Botha could quickly be disqualified. Plan A was the judges will “score” SBW as the winner, while SBW tries to hang on and go the distance. To shorten the fight when SBW was about to fall flat on the canvas was just an improvised plan when SWB was clearly not going to last, but “luckily” still ahead on points. At least his promoter can think on his feet. Seeing all this BS and also the Lawrence case and other sport irregularities that were going on for decades, it’s a pity NZ was not actually food poisoned in ’95 (Not a nice comment but understandable!)   UK Daily Mail Former All Black Sonny Bill Williams' most recent opponent Francois Botha failed a dope test before their heavyweight bout, local media reported on Sunday, adding further doubts to the credibility of the controversial fight. Botha, who was beaten on points by Williams on Friday, had tested positive for phentermine, a banned appetite suppressant, the Sydney Morning Herald said in a report. Williams (6-0) took his unbeaten record to six wins in farcical circumstances when he was awarded the victory over the 44-year-old South African in a bout reduced to 10 rounds from the original 12 at the last minute. Dismay: Francois Botha was closing in on victory against Sonny Bill Williams when the fight was stopped Doubts also surfaced over the fight's status as a purported World Boxing Association (WBA) international heavyweight title bout after local media reported that no officials from the organisation were present. An incensed Botha, who was well on top in the closing rounds, described the late change of bout length as 'match-fixing' and demanded a rematch with Williams, who later said he was more than willing to fight the South African again. 'After, God willing, having a good footy (rugby league) season I'll gladly rematch Mr Botha. Even in South Africa,' he said on his Twitter feed. 'Also very humbled by the congratulatory phone call from the WBA on the fight and the win.. To all my supporters nothing but love!!' Outrage: Botha's failed drugs test has just added more controversy to an already confusing outcome The controversy has come at a sensitive time for sports in Australia, with local police investigating at least one potential case of match-fixing, and an explosive report warning that local competitions were at a high risk of manipulation by organised crime. The abbreviated fight was slammed by bookmaker TAB New Zealand, who refunded 'pick the round' bets on the fight. (But our Kiwi bird brains salute sbw and he is their hero!!!!)   'We went to great pains to double check and triple check that it was 12 rounds because (in) a Sonny Bill fight this has happened before,' TAB New Zealand bookmaker Mark Stafford, whose agency refunded 'pick-the-round' bets, told New Zealand radio on Saturday. 'So we're pretty annoyed about it.' Stafford said his agency had taken bets on three of Williams's six professional fights, with two of them shortened without anybody knowing. He added that they were doubtful about opening another book with the rugby player. (sbw and hi screw are more crooked than the bookies! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha) Legitimate? Williams has now won all of his first six fights, but not without intrigue Australian bookmaker Sportingbet Australia said it would refund all bets laid on Botha in a post on their Twitter account on Saturday. Disgruntled fans took to social media pages to slam the bout as a sham, and demanded broadcasters refund the pay-per-view fees for the fight.   'If you work an 8 hour day tomorrow, work just six. If the boss asks you why, say it’s the £SBW clause,' one Twitter user said in a post.(Bwahahahahhahahahahahaha ou rooitwit’s idol collpases!!) Relief: Williams took to twitter to thank fans Botha's promoter Tinus Strydom said he would lodge a protest with the WBA. Williams's manager Khoder Nasser said the South African camp's complaints were sour grapes.  'They're going to look for any excuse because they lost," Australian state broadcaster ABC quoted him as saying. 'If there's a misunderstanding, there's a misunderstanding and I'm sure we'll deal with that with the WBA.' (Its just like Bryce Lawrence being off form! (Hahahahhahahahahaha how embarrassing for the kiwis. Little doubt they are in on all this stuff happening in oz. Time will tell!) Williams, set to re-start his rugby league career in Australia after several years of playing rugby union that included a World Cup win with the All Blacks in 2011, had a clause in his New Zealand Rugby Union contract allowing him a set number of fights to pursue his boxing career. But his six professional victories, coming against a string of ageing or unfit journeymen, have been slammed by established fighters and pundits as commercial ventures lacking credibility. Actually is difficult to image how sbw could have done more to reduce his credibility?

Also - the Chairman of the Australian Boxing Federation said he knows nothing about the doping issue - and that allegation was also going to be investigated.

More egg heading the way of the kiwis and rooitwit? Ex Sport 24

Severe doubts have been cast on South African heavyweight boxer Francois Botha's reported positive test to a banned substance before his WBA title fight against former All Black rugby star Sonny Bill Williams on Friday. (Note the word severe!) Media reports emanating from Australia and New Zealand claimed on Sunday that Botha, 44, failed a drugs test on the eve of the fight. It stated that results of a urine sample submitted by Botha in Brisbane last Tuesday under WBA regulations show he had Phentermine - a banned stimulant - in his system. The drugs test, which has reportedly been forwarded to the WBA's global headquarters in Panama, also detected Benzodiazepine, which suggested Botha was also using a valium-type product. However, according to Australia's Herald Sun website, the reports may be false. Australian National Boxing Federation (ANBF) committee member John Hogg said it would be "bizarre" if Botha was even tested, let alone did so knowing he would fail. Hogg is the ANBF Queensland representative and was the man who sent Botha for his full medical last week. Hogg said there were no compulsory performance enhancing drugs tests required for boxers in Queensland and he had never heard of Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) spot-testing professional boxers in Queensland. (Bwahahahahahaha nad her ewe had ou rooitwit jumping to all sorts of premature conclusions and shafting at the first opportunity the SA man rather than waiting for final evidence. Unfortunately rooitwit  carries this attitude over into rugby!)   An ASADA spokesperson said the body was not in a position to make a formal comment on the issue but typically boxing title fights fell out of their jurisdiction.   The fight was marred in controversy when it ended with Williams receiving a unanimous points decision. But it ended after 10 rounds, instead of 12, as per WBA rules and as had been advertised. It was not reported which body tested Botha and how the results were returned in five days. There was no WBA official at the fight. "I sent Frans for a complete medical which tested him for hepatitis and AIDS etc but that is the only testing required of professional boxers," Hogg told The Courier-Mail. "I have never heard of ASADA spot-testing professional boxers in Queensland.   "I would think I would have heard about ASADA testing Botha or Sonny Bill because they have never showed up to boxing gyms in Queensland or on fight night. "Tests for performance enhancing drugs are not compulsory in Queensland.' Williams's manager, Khoder Nasser, was the promoter of the fight night land did not respond to requests for comment on the doping claim against Botha. Hogg said Nasser could have asked Botha to submit to further testing. "But Frans could also rightly refuse,' he said. "Then again, what is the point of testing a fighter on a Tuesday if you only get the result after the fight. "The only way he would have been tested is if Nasser made him but then which body would Nasser have got to do it?" Hogg also rubbished Botha's claims that he thought the fight was meant to last 12 rounds.   "It was agreed to 10 before the fight and both camps knew it," Hogg said. "I knew about it being reduced to 10 and so did all the officials and ring staff.   "For Botha to suggest he thought it was 12 is ridiculous –see comments below: 1. SBW's manager, nasser, said in an interview after the fight that the decision to shorten the fight was taken after Boatha "started to hit SBW behind the head."; 2. The Aussie boxing president, who was also a judge at the fight, said they were never informed that the fight was shortened to 10 rounds, and when it was announced at the end of the 10th, it can as a huge surprise to them. That is a lie. Also, the Ausie public are screaming for the arrest of SBW on charges of match fixing Actually I watched the fight very carefully, and you can see the fight was staged...( like wrestling in the U.S.A.): Botha was holding back his right, had many opportunities to land it, and did not. Botha at times even pulled back/held his punches, and a lot of his punches were "telegraphed" giving Williams a chance to block them. Williams was tired and walked into a few "Powder Puff" punches towards the end of the fight, and in my opinion would not have lasted another round. Finishing the fight on 10 rounds, protected Williams and opened the door for a re-match, to further fleece the public. If you don't believe me, watch some of Botha's previous fights. This was a huge PR exercise, for Williams to get the belt, retire as undefeated and add to the Legend that is "Sonny Bill Williams" and for the New Zealanders to be in awe of this Fraud, however, He has a "Glass jaw" and should not have gone more than 3 Rounds with a Has-been.   you can't shorten a WBA fight any more than a referee can decide that a soccer match should be 60 minutes long. It isn't a matter of agreement - it's in the rules (Section E, rule 2 to be specific). Clearly this was nothing but a publicity stunt for Aussie football. Their viewer numbers are plummeting, 80% of their players are doping, nobody wants to watch a bunch of cheaters. So now we have officials rigging matches, Shane Warne throwing cricket balls at people and swearing at them - the list goes on. This is just the tip of the ice-berg...how low can they go...sad that the kiwis want to join them Rule 4e of the WBA stipulates that all championship bouts be decided over 12 rounds. If this fight was sanctioned by the WBA it must be declared a no contest. There is no provision in the WBA for shortening a fight after the weigh in. As yet no one has said who made the decision to shorten the fight, nor who had so much authority that the referee and judges complied with the decision. It is also doubtful that any professional boxing authority would sanction a 12 round fight involving a novice who has never fought beyond 6 rounds. The whole thing smells of fraud   Amazing stuff and equal in farce to Bryce Lawrence’s performances with the whistle in the last WC. No doubt sbw will be inducted into the nz boxing hall of fame. Hahahahhahahahaha. Ou rooitwi should be inducted into a hall of infamy!

@there beeno brains,

so when thinus strydom was interviewd on camera and siad that he knew the fight was 10 rounds before the fight because the officials told him so, was he lying???

ur selective copy pasting of the right article is bizzare. here are irrfutable facts.
queensland does not have compulosry drug testing for boxing matches, only for hepititas and AIDS.
WBA on the other hand does require a blood and urine sample for any WBA fight.

john hogg who u obviously loved what he had to say, also said that he wasnt aware of what the WBA required, only what QLD did, odd how u didnt mention that, but u are very handy at editing ur copy paste projects i guess.

but ur john hogg sources comments on bothas knowledge that he didnt know it was a 10 round fight cracked me up the most,,,,

Hogg also rubbished Botha's claims that he thought the fight was meant to last 12 rounds.
"It was agreed to 10 before the fight and both camps knew it," Hogg said. "I knew about it being reduced to 10 and so did all the officials and ring staff.
For Botha to suggest he thought it was 12 is ridiculous"

LMAO, :oD

the drug test actually took place, botha on an interview with channel one has admiited it did, because he accused the doctor of being kohder nassars (SBWs manger) brother, O_o
fairfax news though had a a copy of the medical report and confirmed that the doctor was not related to nasser in any way.
talk about rubbish paranoia, O_O

what i dont understand is how anyone can think that botha taking banned substances is impossible, considering that botha is a known drug cheat. he had his IBF belt stripped of him when he failed a drug test back in the 90s where they found steroids in his blood.   but simpletons are exactly that and everyone heres knows that "there benno brains" is the village idiot. u tolerate his company, but dont let him participate in any serious discussions, :o)

Guys, what are we actually debating here?? Here is the only facts we need to know and the issue is finished and klaar as is an old saying in SA for our kiwi members!

1. Botha should never have stood the test of time against a much more in tune athlete but he did and even put himself in a position of knocking him out. The great wall on NZL, the amazing SBW stumbling like a drunk teenager at the hands of an overweight, aged South African!! boom!!

2. Of course Aus/Nzl were gona conjure up some sort of "drug cheat" scandal especially in the wake of the drug cheating coming out of their countries. Please okes, dont drag SA in with you to hold your hands. Firstly your boxers wana hug ours and now this sister countries (Aus and NZL) wana sink big brother SA.

3. Nothing about cheating coming out of Nzl/Aus has any credibility. Over the years we have heard about gold watches, some person Suzie poisoning you and drug cheats. Jeez guys, ain't you tired yet? You want cheating, look no further than your own countries. Bryce Lawrence, Glen Jackson (for those that dont know him, he is the next Bryce Lawrence. Watch the match last year between Sharks and Hurricanes in New Plymouth. Glen was blatantly cheating and he is fast becoming NZL's finest ref. Watch him this year against the SA teams!) Khoder Nasser and the rest. At least in SA, we dont cut sporting events short for our gain or have refs that determine the outcomes of games.

Now my kiwi and Aussie friends. What is really wrong here is over the past week or so, your self imposed "straight and clean" countries have taken a serious knock making the issues in SA look like kindergarten squabble so you are now clutching at straws and scraping the bottom of the barrel to find some dirt on SA. Seen it all before and queit frankly...YAWN!!! SA is not going to throw you boys life rafts on this one. Your prize of NZL is a man hugging panzy boy. Maybe he needed to take a bit more PED's for that extra power ;-)

@boklogic,

let me address a few of ur comments,,,

"1. Botha should never have stood the test of time against a much more in tune athlete but he did and even put himself in a position of knocking him out."
im taking it that u have next to no idea about anything boxing, a comment like this tells me that at at best u are a casual observor.
the real reality is, that SBW should never have stood a chance in the ring against botha. bothas experience should have let him knock out SBW easily in the first few rounds. i and many others have made many many comments prior to the fight about how SBW never stood a chance, cos at the end of the day SBW is NOT a boxer. a very good athlete, but not a boxer.

"3. Nothing about cheating coming out of Nzl/Aus has any credibility"
u mean even though botha has a history of taking illegal substances??? the IBF stripped him of his belt because he failed a drug test when they found steroids in his blood tests.

"Glen Jackson (for those that dont know him, he is the next Bryce Lawrence. Watch the match last year between Sharks and Hurricanes in New Plymouth. Glen was blatantly cheating and he is fast becoming NZL's finest ref. Watch him this year against the SA teams!)"
glen jackson has many flaws in his game, he is still a nebwie after all, but i have wtached that hurricanes game and ur going to have to go into specifices, cos i have no idea what ur tlaking about.
but i do remember bobby skinstadt and another saffa commentator saying that glen jackson was an excellent ref and they both hoped that more former players would take up reffing.
also if u want to see some dodgy reffing, then look at the worst officated match in the history of super rubgy with the brumbies vs bulls match reffed by marius jonker who single handedly handed the game over to the bulls. whats even craziers is that the bulls have never lost a match reffed by marius jonker (FACT)

"Now my kiwi and Aussie friends. What is really wrong here is over the past week or so, your self imposed "straight and clean" countries have taken a serious knock"
there ar some serious flaws with ur understanding, australia is the only one under the microscope, NZ has nothing to do with their current drug dilemma (which as the OZ government stated is directed mainly towards the AFL & NRL). and when i say nothing, i mean nothing.
australian sports are the ones being audited, not NZ.

"Your prize of NZL is a man hugging panzy boy. Maybe he needed to take a bit more PED's for that extra power ;-)"
again this comment shows a lack of boxing knowledge on ur part. SBW tieing up botha like that is smart tactics and if u watched the fight like u claimed u did, u would know SBW jabbed the shit out of botha rounds 1 thorugh 8. tieing up botha was the logical option, especially considering botha was repeatedly hitting SBW with free hits despite the ref calling break. botha should have been disqualified.
as for taking more PED for that extra power, our boys will just stick to their taro and kumaras thank u very much, we will leave the drug taking to botha who is very experienced with it, lolz, -_o

Sas, your a good poster and I dont want to offend you but you are off your rocker if you think that Khoder Nasser would throw SBW in the deep end right now. Hell no. If he lost to Botha, he was most likely going to stop boxing. Khodder is not finished making money off the man. Had he lost to Botha, no one would take SBW serious. Khodder just needed to find a boxer with a heavy weight rep but that "can not" really beat an in tune athlete. He came up with Botha as the man, at the time the fight was agreed upon, was seriously overweight and aged. All he had was a rep of his glory days and oh how it nearly backfired. Actually, it did backfire because Sonny lost that fight in everyone eyes.

Yes, I witnessed SBW jabbing. Yes, I also witnessed him hugging everytime Botha dodged a haymaker and counter punched. The whole crowd saw SBW as a pussy. Botha was clearly frustrated that the ref, whom repeatedly had to call break and warn SBW against locking up, but all the warnings yet no point deductions. SBW hit Botha twice after the bell too so whats good for the goose....If Botha should have been disqualified or lost points for his response, then so should SBW. He is a joke of a boxer and he ruined the fight. Botha was always in control of that fight. His tactics were clear for all to see and he told SBW before the fight what he was gona do. He was gona "Drag him to the deep end (late rounds) and drown him (Drop him). That worked a treat!!

Boxing is not something I normally watch but I have enough knowledge and its pretty black and white really. Go ask the crowd and everyone else who witnessed the brawl who their favourite was. SBW ruined the fight and needed his entourage to save him. The hasbeen that never had a chance broke him. Botha was letting SBW jab him. He just needed to stay away from the combos and he did that. He knew all SBW's punches would tire him out and then he would launch for the kill. SBW's boyfriends had to save him. Plenty respect lost for SBW worldwide for this. He should have demanded to fight on and lose gracefully!!

@boklogic,

just adressing a few of ur comments,,, :o)

"Sas, your a good poster and I dont want to offend you but you are off your rocker if you think that Khoder Nasser would throw SBW in the deep end right now"
no offence taken on my part nor given, its a healthy debate albeit a non-rugby debate and were all entitled to our opinons. we are similar in the sense that we dont mind teasing as we post our opinons, so hi-5, :o)
in saying that, i have no idea where u got the impression that i think that nasser would throw SBW into the deep end. i have repeatedly said that SBW is a poor boxer average at best, the 6 fights he has had have all been spoon fed to him.
botha is the exception though, i expected botha to thoroughly beat SBW cos bothas rep in the ring is formidable. yes botha is old, but everything hes learnt in the ring had him as the clear favourite IMO.
i dont think SBW would stand a chance against any boxer with a decent rep, i have even stated in the past that should he ever step in the ring against david tua, he will get murdered.
make no mistake, i do not consider SBW to be a boxer. he is a solid athlete who can box and thats something compeltely different.

"Actually, it did backfire because Sonny lost that fight in everyone eyes."
only if those perople were stevie wonder and helen keller, cos SBW did win.
i know u meant he should have won, but i couldnt help myslef, :oP

"Yes, I witnessed SBW jabbing. Yes, I also witnessed him hugging everytime Botha dodged a haymaker and counter punched."
those events really only happened frequently in the last two rounds, cos SBW was surprisingly apt at keeping botha away from him in the earlier rounds with his clean jabs & tieing him up wen he had too, but still not as often as u mention.

"Botha was clearly frustrated that the ref, whom repeatedly had to call break and warn SBW against locking up, but all the warnings yet no point deductions."
not true, SBW did have a point deducted for tieing up too much.

"SBW hit Botha twice after the bell too so whats good for the goose....If Botha should have been disqualified or lost points for his response, then so should SBW"
i take it u havent watched the replay since watching it live??? cos there was only one incident where SBW hit after the bell and it was at best a second after.
botha on the other hand deliberately hit SBW a total of 8 times square in the face when the ref was calling for a break. those punches take its toll out on a fighter, especially a novice like SBW.
whats good for the goose is good for the gamder, sorry buddy, unlike SA taking banned substances in NZ is frowned upon, :oP

"He was gona "Drag him to the deep end (late rounds) and drown him (Drop him). That worked a treat!!"
thinius strydom bothas promoter has already admitted he knew the fight was going to be 10 rounds. is there any boklogical reason why he wouldnt tell botha that???? of course not, logic clearly dictates that botha was aware that it was a 10 round fight.
watch the fight again and u wiil see that botha didnt drag SBW to the deep end, SBW was in clear control until the last two rounds.
botha knowing that he was going to lose the fight if he didnt finish off SBW then applied his dirty cheating tactics to try and finish of SBW, and im not talking about the drugs, im talking about the 8 free shots he got.

"Boxing is not something I normally watch but I have enough knowledge and its pretty black and white really."
like i said in my post before this one, i can tell ur a casual observor of boxing and im not making fun of it BTW, just stating some things that most boxers know.
my dad and his brothers are boxing fanatics, the only thing the love more is rugby. they were all boxers when they were younger and my dad made my brothers and i go to my uncles gym to learn the ins and outs and all the fundamentals, good fun cos we were pretty broke growing up but i ws always sparing or playing backyard rugby with my bros.
but that background i have is why i know for a fact that what SBW was doing was as smart as it comes.
even if botha had dazed SBW legitimatelym SBW locking up botha like that is just plain smart, SBW needed to survive to win, botha thanks to the power of suppliments and God knows what else was on the hunt as he knew a KO was all he needed to win. if i was in SBWs corner, i would have been emphasisng to hi to lock up botha as often as he possibly can, even if it meant losing that round, for he had done enough the previous rounds to win.
botha knew this as well, thats why he cheated and was hitting SBW when the ref was calling break, cos SBW had effectively avoidied any of his hits up until then.

Go ask the crowd and everyone else who witnessed the brawl who their favourite was.
like i said in an earlier post, its only the saffas who are surprised to see the crowd booing SBW. u need only watch all his fights in OZ to know that he was never a crowd favourite, even when he donated all the money from one boxing event to the QLD flood victims.
if they dont cheer him even when does a good deed like that, one can easily imagine the reception he would have gotten after that farce of a fight.

"Plenty respect lost for SBW worldwide for this. He should have demanded to fight on and lose gracefully!!"
agreed, SBW has lost a lot of respect, but the worldwide??? ur giving austalian boxing far too much credit. i doubt anyone in the US the mecca of the boxing world has even heard of this shambles and of the two people who probab;y did, im sure they fell asleep before they heard the rest of the storry.
he should have demanded to fight on, but that would be stupid especially the circumstances he was in, after all he was one punch away from being knocked out.
as for losing gracefully, no such thing especially as botha was busted with banned substances in his sytem,,,,,,AGAIN!!!

Sasue

My final conribution to this thread.   I lways suspected this was going to be a farce and wasted valuable time in watching it    Somebody cashed in and there was bad manipulation.   I think we should not be getting into discussion what actually was a money-making fraud exercise by corrupt individuals.  It was advetized to be a WBA heavyweight world title fight - it was nothing of the sort.

Anyway - I think that SBW is built likeTarzan and some women and homosexuals will fantasize about his body for years to come.  (LOL)

A boxer he definitely is not - so lets continue to admire him as a rugby player and forget about this nasty little farce.

Do yourself a favour Sas. Get hold of last nights edition of Campbell live. They interviewed some key ppl around the fight. The only oke that says it was a 10 round bout was Khodder Nasser. Before the fight, the announcer announced 12 rounds. The commentators announced 12 rounds. After the 6th round, the commentator says, "We have reached the half way mark..." this implies a 12 round bout. The numbers next to the judges showed a number 11 lying there waiting for the ring girl to pick up after round 10.

12 rounds were mentioned by everyone. TAB in both Aussie and NZL were not informed of the change. Neither was tv networks so they both had to refund viwers and punters alike. Lets spare each other the bullshit. That fight was never inteded for 10 rounds until the start of the 10th. It was a 12 round bout. That is a fact. Go watch Campbell Live from last night where they interview some very key organisers and presidents who all say it was a 12 rounder.

Guess who conducted the drug test. A family member of Khodder Nasser. Botha admits to that. Khodder's response, "He was from a legitimate australian drug testing authority!" Doesn't matter Khodder. You are supposed to be legit too but you are not. Just like your family member, you are a phony, cheat and do whatever you need to to get the desired result!

My apologies for my cuntrymen trying to justify cheating. Unfortunately there are some that will talk complete rubbish to save face and to discredit our good Kiwi friends just for the hell of it .

Last week the Ozzies were caught with banned substances which resulted in outright condemnation from my SA brothers, old Dr Beeno and co.

This week a South African is caught taking banned substances and my SA brothers are saying well thats okay after all he's a yarpy like us. Slightly contradictiory and hypocritical don't you think?.

At least SBW can say he beat a boxer that fought Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko to name a few despite being a complete amateur in the sport.

@boklogic,

i think i will join brother mike and make this my last comment on this thread, i have a ton of rugby talk inside of me dying to get out, lolz.

i think u may have not read my posts, not that i blame u cos ive been known to bore myself, LMAO, :oD
but there are a few things that are just simply not true with the information u have soaked up.

for starters, thinius strydom is francois bothas boxing promoter and he came out on TV and said he was aware that the fight was 10 rounds before the fight took place.
im not speculating on something that i read, i saw the interview myself where he was asked after the fight if he was aware it was 10 rounds before the fight started and he said "YES HE WAS."

but this last comment of urs is bizzare, especially as i had already addressed it,,,
"Guess who conducted the drug test. A family member of Khodder Nasser. Botha admits to that. Khodder's response, "He was from a legitimate australian drug testing authority!" Doesn't matter Khodder. You are supposed to be legit too but you are not. Just like your family member, you are a phony, cheat and do whatever you need to to get the desired result!"
fiarfax news had a copy of the medical report and tracked down the doctor, they confirmed that he was in no way related to khoder nassar.
i mean just look at the source as stated by u, francois botha a known drug cheat admitted that khodder nassars brother did his drug test, WTF??? o_O
i really hope i dont have to explain just how ludicrous that really sounds.???

anyways, the topic is getting old and borring, we both agree its a farce, but unlike u i think botha a known drug cheat is even more guilty.
will look out for that cambell live interview and i hope u look out for thinus strydoms comments saying he was aware before the fight that the match was going 10 rounds only.

@bigfatyarpy,

LMAO, ur a crack up but done be offended when i say i am a little suspicious about ur saffa roots, lolz. :oD

Botha wants another drug test to clear his name:

South African heavyweight Francois Botha has decided to have another drug test to clear his name and wants the result of his fight against Sonny Bill Williams removed from his record.

In a statement released through his promoters on Monday, Botha said the test that Australian news media reported he had failed was administered by "a confidant” of Williams's manager, Khoder Nasser.

The veteran South African said the chaotic fight with the New Zealand rugby international was "a disgusting state of affairs" and "amounts to match-fixing." Williams won on points after coming close to being knocked out in the final round.

Botha has asked his manager to apply to have the result removed from his record, saying he was unaware the bout in Brisbane last Friday had been shortened from twelve to ten rounds.

Australian newspapers reported Botha had tested positive for the banned stimulant phentermine.

He said the person who administered the drug test was "either a relative or a friend" of Nasser. "I had a drug test a few days before the fight but when I asked for the results I found out it was not official."

The fight was originally advertised as a twelve-rounder as required by WBA rules for title bouts.

IN ALL SORTS OF TROUBLE

"I had Williams in all sorts of trouble in the tenth round. There was no way he was going to last one more round, let alone two; he was out on his feet," Botha said.

Regional WBA representative Brad Vocale said he had doubts as to whether the fight was ever sanctioned by the organisation and that "sadly, boxing has been given a black eye again."

The chaos at the tournament came days after the Australian Crime Commission released a report identifying significant use of illegal substances in professional sport in the country, along with possible match-fixing and manipulation of betting markets.

The fight was initially scheduled as a ten-rounder for November last year, according to Botha's promoter, Tinus Strydom, but was postponed after Williams was injured while playing rugby.

APPLIED FOR UPGRADE

It now seems Williams's management applied for the bout to be upgraded to a WBA International title fight, allegedly without Strydom's knowledge.

"When I first heard about it I did not think the WBA would grant it. Therefore I did not question the development because I firmly believed the fight's status would not change," Strydom said.

"However, Khoder's promotion material, both television and print in Australia, advertised the bout as a twelve-rounder."

When he arrived in Australia a week before the tournament, Strydom said, it "seemed a foregone conclusion" that it had been declared a 12-rounder and that Williams's manager had succeeded in acquiring WBA International title status for the bout. It has been reported that no WBA officials attended the tournament.

"Just before the start of the bout, the Aussie officials who were overseeing the tournament called me and pointed out that my contract was for a ten-round bout, and that's the way it was going to be," Strydom said.

"It was correct since the contract details were never altered after the November postponement. I immediately informed Botha's trainer, Hardy Mileham."

Strydom said Mileham, who was left fuming in a television interview after the fight, had asked referee Tony Kettlewell, who confirmed that it would be fought over twelve rounds.

"I have not heard from Australia's boxing officials or from the WBA, but my gut feel is that the bout will be declared a no-contest because of the conflict created by the advertisements, which declared that the bout was a twelve-rounder," Strydom said.

Botha said Kettlewell had confirmed before the fight that it would be held over twelve rounds.

"From the start of the bout, my strategy was to pace myself over twelve rounds, and from round seven I started turning on the pressure," he said. "After nine rounds I was quite happy with my progress and then all of a sudden I hear the ref say 'final round, shake hands'.”

I believe Botha will be cleared of drug charges and that his belief that the fight was for 12 rounds was genuine.

Away with these bent down under types!!!! Their behaviour has been outrageous.

Botha for the sake of your reputation cut all ties with these bent oaks! Also just because you would have knocked out tarzan fights like Jane sbw is no reason not to retire. You are past your sell by date. Hang up the gloves NOW.

Yeah, confusion created by the bent Nasser and co. If SBW was on top, we would have seen 12 rounds but it suited them to reduce to the original 10. I have no doubt at all that everyone that had anything to do with that fight believed it was a 12 rounder before the fight. It just suited Nasser and co to stop it at 10.

Australian/New Zealand boxing (and other sports its seems) is a farce and not worth a damn! Too many crooked okes coming out the woodwork these days.

Botha's drug test should have been conducted by an independent country. Fact that it was conducted in Aussie immediately questions the credibility. The tester was probably on the Nasser payroll.

@boklogic,

lolz, looks like its not my last post on this thread, :oP

but i have a couple of questions i would like u to answer,,,

1) why would thinus strydom who is the promoter of francois botha say on national television that he knew before the fight that it was only going 10 rounds???

2) can u give me one example in boxing where the intial drug testing was conducted on neutral territory???

3) are u even aware that botha has a history of taking banned drugs???

u dont have to read this next bit, cos u have cleverly done an israel dagg and cleverly side stepped many facts i have thrown ur way on this thread, lolz, :oP but if botha was really innocent, he would have gotten a second test conducted on him straight away.
he now wants the second test to be done in SA but still hasnt done so and why??? benzodiazepine and phentermine the two drugs he was busted for.
benzodiazepine only stays in ur system or can be detected by urine for a maximum of 10 days,
phentermine lasts only a max of 4 days.
im sure that a known drug cheat like botha is well aware of this hence his not getting retested straight away.

Ha ha Sas, I knew you would take the bait and return to the post ;-)

Answers to your questions:

1. Thinus Strydom may have meant that the contract said 10 rounds and that was never formally changed. The agreement before the fight wasthat it would go 12 rounds so we had 2 fighters in the ring, fight presenters, commentators, judges, ring girls, TAB's, Punters, viewers and cats and dogs believing it was a 12 rounder. How could there have been so many people hearing 12 rounder had it not been true. Please Sas, this was a farce. It suited SBW to be stopped at 10 and moral victory to Botha.

2. Not interested in boxing in England and the States. When it comes to Australia and Nasser, it must be done far away where this prick has no influence.

3. Yes, I am aware that Botha has a history of doping. Judging by the size of the man these days, I feel he also has a history of dopping. Brandewyn and Biltong is all that crazy dutchmen pisses!!

Seriously Sas, we wasting our time talking about this. You are with 10% of the world that believe SBW won the fight without cheating and Botha is a drug cheat. I am with 90% of the world who saw SBW wobbling like a drunk toddler at the hands of an overweight, aged bruiser and he was swiftly wrapped in cottonwool and pulled out of the situation. Big credibility loss for SBW, Nasser (if he can lose anymore), Australia/NZL and everyone else involved in this farce. I doubt SBW will get much crowd attendance should he choose to step into the ring again and you will see a big drop in box office ratings...

How do you explain Khodder Nasser offering Botha $150k Aussie to throw the fight? This Khodder guy knows no boundaries.

You can say Botha is talking crap but then Botha can say the same for Khodder and the drug test results and the rounds being changed.

Ha ha, NZL's pride and joy needs to be covered by $150k against an over the hill "ballie" as we would say in SA. Maybe Frans Botha should replace Frans Steyn in the centres when SBW returns to union. That way we know SBW will be well looked after ;-)
