I know Steyn was probably upset by the Horne tackle on him and feel that Horne should have been carded for that.
A few minutes later the Beale incident took place. Beale passed the ball and after he passed Steyn got hold of his jersey and had ample time to release the jersey - the commentators said that as well - but he proceeded with a move to fling Beale to the ground. No wonder he got cited for that one and got away with an after match yellow card.
However, if the referee was stricter - he would have had a yellow card for that one during the match, since there really was no reason for that "tackle" - something more like a judo exercise than a tackle.
Come the second round and Steyn did a copy of the Horne incident on another player. He was indeed lucky that the judicial officer did not have that issue as well = he would definitely have been red carded for the two incidents.
Both incidents were totally uncalled for and blatantly illegal. One know that he is passionate about the game - but what brought up two illegal and dangerous tackles in one game? Is he taking lessons from Nonu in the relevant regard? Or is the fact that he misses too many tackles in games getting to him?
He will be well-advised to stay away from illegal tackling and try legal ways to get the job done.
