I wouldnt mind a player in my side with a 74% win ratio overall and a 100% win ration at World Cups.
I never realised he had such phenominal stats, bearing in mind that he played with a few shit coaches like HM and AC along the way.
Had he played more tests with decent coaches, his ration would be at about 80%.Thats almost McCaw like!

Steyn was very good till he went to France and came back grossly overweight and totally useless.  His good performance game has been gone for 10 years now and what else can eb expected from him - slow and an utter flop.  .

Frans Steyn's weight has not been an issue for years. He is fit, but he has lost some of his skill due to knee injuries- and general wear and tear of being in the game for 10+ Years
He is not ideal - but better than the altern atives

Not sure why the euphoria surrounding Frans Steyn, probably typical South African but while I applaud his selection it should be pointed out that he's been selected on reputation and experience, the latter is probably good from a leadership point of view but as to the former, reputation doesn't win games, the opposition sees him as just another player, he will have to perform like every other player. That said, my guess is that the leader post is just another predictable childish stir.

Wake up you fools Frans was great in his day that was some 5 years ago - do we never learn. We saw the return of old man Matfield and that was disastrous and now you idiots think Frans is the answer The guy can’t even make the Montpellier starting side these days and you lot want him to start for the Boks. When he does get game time at Montpellier it’s at 15 Wake the fuck up - raise the bar for crying out loud - you idiots want our backline creativity coming from a ponderous old man

Matfield was not disastrous.....he came on for 15 minutes after Lomp who was disastrous was subbed off. Nor were mature players Monty and Os in the 2007 WC you said we could never win. Get with it Dave , your theories are nonsense.

Oh rubbish Matfield was a physical liability - Lood was far superior Monty offered nothing with ball in hand on his return and was a liability in defence. He did offer up a good boot Os was a shadow of his former self. No longer did we see his rampant runs just an old man making up the numbers All were piss poor calls just like Frans is. Old men don’t make good rugby players

Oh sure Dave and Luke Watson, Wynand Olivier, Craig Burden were good calls. Limit yourself to 'nice post' and you'll be making a better contribution moron.

Luke Watson was a damn good rugby player caught up in a pathetic agenda that ignorantly did him no favours. Great linking 6, better natural 6 than Schalk was - Schalk should have been a 7 or 8. Ironically played his best rugby when he played for Saracens - we no longer saw him taking contact at every turn. Olivier was a class 12 easily the best back up to Jean for the Boks I said very little of Burden other than he should not have been moved from centre to hooker by your mate Jake was it not. He achieved nothing as a hooker but was a damn good 13 for the Baby Boks

Denny I’m not expecting you to grasp the concept of rugby - anyone who drops Pollard for Frans Steyn at 10 confirms their rugby ignorance

Adi Jacobs.....best centre stats in 2008 Trinations, a class act. Wynand the guy the Lions ran over to win their only test in 2009. You sure know how to pick them Dave.

"anyone who drops Pollard for Frans Steyn at 10 confirms their rugby ignorance"

It's awfully hard to explain to you something as simple as the fact that Rassie brought back Frans Steyn as an alternative to Pollard. I mentioned this in an earlier post. News 24 carried the story.

Now go ahead and bark to your heart's content but that is why I thought now is a good a time as any to trial Frans in the position. Obviously, Pollard would be on the bench.

Just as an aside residential "rugby wise guru"......if it works, it pretty much wipes the chances of your pin-up boy alternative, the schoolboy Elton Jantjies who Rassie quietly suffers as just another quota.

Comprehende? .....I doubt it.

Listen dumbass until Rassie has an 80% win record will I concede he knows what he is doing. For those in the know, Frans is a complete flop at 10 because he always has his kicks charged down. His hand to foot is too slow, so you can’t have your 10 being charged down in pressure situations. I’d love to know what Rassie is basing his Frans at 10 on given he never plays there for Montpellier. He never starts for them and when he does it’s at 15. So by my logic good old Rassie is basing it on about 5 or 6 years ago Really astute stuff from our coach. Try base your side on your own take on players - don’t be another sheep

Funny, you backed Lambie, and he was king of the charge downed clearance!

No, Frans is a perfectly viable option at 10. Not my preferred position for him, but perfectly fine. He has outplayed many of the fan flubs, like Goosen.

Also, how on earth can you trump the sieve defense Quade Cooper as a class act  but dismiss Curwin Bosch because of his defense?

Also, how on earth can you diss Ma'a Nonu and trump the carthorse, clueless and talentless Wynie Olivier as a class act?

Fransie had one good match at 10...the Currie Cup Final in Durbs against WP in the pouring rain....eons ago.

I still have his stats from 2008's super rugby, as well as 2014. His performances at 10 outshone those more lauded players such as Lambie et al. His best position is 12, but at 10 or 13, he is still viable. Arguably better suited to the Boks than Jantjies. Most definitely better than the carthorse du Preez.

"Fransie had one good match at 10...the Currie Cup Final in Durbs against WP in the pouring rain....eons ago."
There have only been five Currie Cup Finals between the Sharks and Western Province in Durban and they were in 1995, 2000, 2010, 2012 and 2017.
Frans Steyn would have been 8 years old in 1995 and 13 years old in 2000.
In the 2010 Currie Cup final, the Sharks won 30-10 and flyhalf Patrick Lambie scored 25 of the 30 points with 2 tries, 3 conversions and 3 penalties. It was one of the most memorable games Lambie ever played and if anyone thinks that was Frans Steyn then I'd suggest that they are once again getting involved in a discussion about a topic they know nothing about.
In the 2012 Currie Cup final, the Sharks lost 25-18 and Patrick Lambie was again the flyhalf but didn't have a particularly good game. Frans Steyn was not even a Sharks player in 2010 or 2012.
I doubt if even a stupid person would consider 2017 to be "eons ago" but just in case, Curwin Bosch was the Sharks flyhalf in the 2017 final against WP.

AO

BS in buckets again.  Fransie as a flop in all respects at flyhalf - as big a flop as Morne was,  When playing at flyhalf for the Sharks in 2014 he was piss-poor.  Missing a record number of tackles and making so many foul ups - mostly in kicking - that he set a new Super Rugby record for any player  in that  series ever.

Another example of rugby illiteracy is that you forget that Steyn was used a flyhalf and inside center by Montpellier - especially when White was around as coach.   The moment he left Montpellier paid a fortune to get Goosen to play at flyhalf and contracted Serfontein at center. From then on Steyn rarely played for Montpellier and when he did he played at full back - not at center or flyhalf.   So he was better than Goosen?  What an idiotic statement anyway.

Frans was the best Shark in 2014, comfortably setting the bar at 12, 13, 10 and 15. The only problem was that there was only one Frans to go around. The Shark's best rugby was with Frans at 10, not Lambie. A bitter pill to swallow, but swallow you will.

What a lark!!!!    Steyn was rated based on performance as the no 253 player in the Super Rugby tournament and also the no 32 center in the 2014 series by Foxport..   The best player in the  Sharks backline - blaas my siel!!!!  LMAO

He was lucky - White was the coach - and Steyn was protected by him.  No other franchise would have selected him with that record.anyway - but the "experts" (like in the case of Morne - the normal bench player of Stade Francais)  rated him as  capable of playing on test level.

That means he was rated amongst the bench players at best.   Useless in 2014 and worse now.    If he is any good at present why did his club not renew his contract and why was he not played by them at 10 or 12?

The Club Management is obviously less informed about rugby than our "experts" on site,   They would rather spent Euro 1,5 million to get Goosen out of his Racing Contract than remain with Fransie - th at is how stupid they are.     LMAO
