Seems he has not recovered from his last injury, and has no chance of making the Bok squad.

Esterhuizen and Delande are in their prime now, so while  Steyn was solid in his later years, he probably would not have made the match-day team.

A good career, especially before injuries caused him to lose pace and his step.

What an absolute legend. I don't think we had another talent quite like him that can turn a game on its head.

He could step through defenders, great runner, fantastic tackler and deceptively fast for a big unit.

Then, don't forget that huge boot of him and his ability to kick 60m drop goals at will.

Wonder where our next teenage wonderkid will come from.

Also, didn't take nonsense from dumb coaches like Divvy and Meyer. If it wasn't for them he would have had more than a 100 caps by now and South Africa would have been better for it

A true legend in South African rugby.

Stood firm at all times as a player and accepted no BS.

Thanks Frans for the joy, skill and scarifices you made as a  Springbok each time you played.

That winning drop kick of yours will remain one of my greatest highlights of Springbok rugby forever.

May you be blessed with good health, happiness and a long life.

Thank you.

Among my first memories of Frans was him scooping up a ball off the deck at full pace, making it seem routine. Then as a 20 year old seamlessly  replacing Jean at the WC and playing a key role in our WC victory.
Francois Steyn, to the manor born.

Brilliant in his day, took that WC by storm as a 20 year old I feel we were short changed with Frans - he left early and we missed him in his prime Being a utility player never did him any favours - jack of all trades but a master of none. He should have been a master at 12, by far his best position It appears Willemse is mirroring Frans’s path right now It’s flyhalf yesterday, centre today and fullback tomorrow
