Frans Steyn returns to SA@32 to Bloemfontein

He still has a few years left in the tank. Maybe even for Pro14 Cheetas. 

Two-time World Cup-winner Frans Steyn has confirmed he will return to South Africa in January 2020.

The 32-year-old Steyn has been plying his trade abroad since 2014, currently playing for French giants Montpellier.

Steyn has now confirmed to Volksblad that he is relocating to South Africa at the end of January, with the aim of returning to the Free State along with wife Linca and their three daughters to focus on his farming business.

‘We want to raise our children here because we want them to experience the same upbringing my wife and I had when we grew up.’

Despite his intention to focus on his farming interests, Steyn had purchased a house in Bloemfontein but it remains unclear whether he will sign a contract to play for the Cheetahs in the PRO14.

Steyn departs to France for the final time this coming weekend before his homecoming in a couple of months’ time.

Like always expected - he returned to go farming,    His contract with Montpellier was not renewed - so what else did you expect, Ceradyne?

Yet another unsubstantiated blatant lie. I was going to ask you whether you are not ashamed of yourself but you are too thick skinned for that.  

Steyn wasn’t planning on even negotiating an extension of his contract and has been planning his return to SA for ages. 

I challenge you to produce any evidence to support your BS.

Only a total idiot like you may think he would have got a new contract from Montpellier after being shuffled out of playing center and flyhalf and given occasional games at full back this passing year.   Rather than being embarrassed - the players pretend they have not asked for a contract extension or resigned rather than being fired - like happened to dear Morne and Meyer at Stade Francais.  

In the case of Fransie it was known 6 months ago that his wish to remain at Montpellier is a goner and he only went back after the WC to finally pack his things to move back to SA since no other team will take him.

So bluff yourself - it is a cruel world out there for failing rugby players and coaches.       

I wonder ... could we see the return of Meyer to the Bulls?

I do not think that would ever happen.   Meyer failed as Springbok coach and totally so as coach at Stade Francais.

He would obviously try and get a job at the two SR franchises at present without permanent coaches - but even that will be a problem.    I do not think Erasmus as Director of Rugby responsible for development of the game in SA will want duds as SR franchise coaches and at the Kings and the Cheetahs, 

Erasmus was brought on board when the Bulls picked Pote Human as the Bulls coach and will certainly have inputs on all higher level coaching appointments.  .     

Meyer is the most cutting edge coach we have. The last successful modern interpretation of Bok rugby was under Meyer. 

The last major losses was also under Meyer - did he have a cutting edge as to how to lose matches?  It is amazing how he was the worst coach Stade Francais had for the past decade and you seem to think he was any  good???????????     

Thank goodness when I read that he was returning to RSA I was concerned that the Stormers or the Lions would snap him up.

Two broken unions still trying to please the masses.

But thankfully the Bloem rugby chiefs beat them to the draw.

You two guys should be ashamed of yourselves as South African rugby scribes or supporters.
