Frans Steyn: Stand Out Player of the Weekend

Frans Steyn was exceptional today. 

His distribution and ability to create space for Jordaan was excellent, 

he was very strong on the crash ball and his classy cross kick for Ngunu on the right wing was pin point perfection. 

Looks like he has started the season fitter than last year and he seems to have his long distance kicking skills back.

His carries up the middle take about half a rugby team to pull him down. Great for creating space with a quick recycle.

He easily outplayed Serfontein, and helped Jordaan make a fool of JJ Engelbreght.

Lambie had one of his better games in the SuperXV, and looking very comfortable with Frans Steyn on his outside.

The combination of Lambie, Frans and Jordaan look dangerous and much better than last year. 

 Steyn in the first half was very quiet - but was good in the second half.   He obviously is in better phyaical form than he was last year.  

Those are good stats compared to what he produced last year - but for one thing - he still does not pass balls and in fact hung onto too many of them.  He kicked twice - passed the ball five times - carried the ball 10 times without passing or off-loading.

Did you say Morne and Kirchner?   I do think that Morne is now showing his only asset for Stade Francais if the following is borne in mind:-

"Finally, Petrus Hauman and Kevin Buys were involved in Brive's shock win over Stade Français. Morné Steyn kicked four penalties in the 28-12 loss." 

Stade Francais has a very good backline - what made it dysfunctional from am attacking perspective?   Morne?   Plisson will come back from the 6 Nations and then Morne will be back on the Stade Francais bench.

Morne is not a player that ignites any backline - so you are barking up the wrong tree. He also have had a hopeless last match for the Bulls in the Super 15 semi against the Brumbies - so he is not and has never been the answer. 

And Kirchner's play is as planes as a headless chicken - so where to now?
