 If Keegan Daniel is injured the Sharks are going to be need a Captain.

With Bismaark still injured, and John Smit history it appears that Frans Steyn could be the favourite especially as he captained over the weekend.

It is likely to happen - as wiith the rest of his game on Friday - it seems that Steyn could b a very decent captain.   I don't know how long Daniel will be out - but Steyn may be captain only until Daniel's returm.   Keegan is highly respected by the players and set an exellent moral example to the players as well.   He leads by example - and if Steyn is captain I hopehe does the same.

The team would not really be weakened by th bsence of Daniel - they will have Kankowski coming back and Thembu had an xcellent game on Friday,

@mikey,
wow. i do love the playing roster that the sharks have at their fingertips, but with francois as captain, i am very stand offish with their chances for reasons ive stated many many times on other threads.

i did read with a lot of intrest that sharks review u wrote when they smashed the opposition and it was good to see francois hitting some old form, even if it was just a trial (thanks for that review BTW).

the more i think about it, the more i realise that francois might be the best choice for the sharks, given their player roster, but rheres more to being a captain then preforming well and given that francois wants to hit some good form on the back of anaverage 2012, this could be more pressure then necessary.
chances are good that he will rise to the occassion though, hes a world class player after all and while brother mike might not like this saying, form is temporary but class is permanent, :o)

The Sharks have confirmed that following captain Keegan Daniel's injury vice vice-captain Frans Steyn will step up as Shark captain until Daniel returns.

Daniel limped off against the Leopards last Friday night with a knee injury which coach John Plumtree has confirmed would mean missing their eighthman and captain for about six weeks.

Even though Frans Steyn has spent most of the last five years playing in France he is one of the most capped Sharks players in the squad.

"Frans becomes the ideal candidate for the captaincy in terms of experience," Plumtree said on the Sharks website.

"He has the respect of the players, leads by example and he's a winner. We know that everyone will get behind him and support him."

The Sharks coach added that there are enough experienced campaigners in the squad who can assist in terms of strategy.

"They will help him out with advice which is important."

The Sharks end their Super Rugby warm up campaign this weekend with a trial match against the Pumas and then start their Super Rugby campaign against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein next Saturday.
