Frans Steyn
At his age and size we are hardly going to see him accelerate through a gap now are we?
You mean like he did on Saturday?
Mozart
Talking total Kak again. Steyn did make exactly one what some would call a line break and made about 15 meters before being brought down. He played near to an hour in total and he made 5 tackles and missed 2.
He is not a center and never was a flyhalf of substance, Totally useless at best - that is why Montpellier used him at full back for near to a year and then refused to extend his contract with them.
Why should that have happened? Because he was useless as a player and nothing else. He was poor playing for three years for the Sharks and played mostly at center and flyhalf and made more bugger-ups in those three years than other players made in their full career - capping in 2015 a five week ban for a dangerous tackle.
But then Mozart was the greatest supporter of Morne Steyn when he was too poor a flyhalf to start for his club Stade Francais and mostly got a few minutes game time from the bench. Imagine that a player not good enough to start as a club player is the best flyhalf to play for SA in tests.
In both cases totally delusional and never a real description of the bugger-ups Morne made on test level and dozen of excuses and lies to protect the player from criticism.
Have fun - you are always good for a laugh - silliness is often the cause of most comical nature for laughter. LMAO
.
The average age of most rugby teams is 28.
If I'm being honest. Damian is the worsr centre I have ever seen. He makes mistakes as a test veteran that I never even saw kids make when I was a schoolboy. How is it possible to play so much rugby and still have no feel for the flow of thr opposition? Or discern defensive shapes or sum up very basic attacking opportunities? It absolutely beggars belief to behold. His defence is still a shambles.
Frans isn't a little better than Damian, he comprehensively outplayed him in this RC. Irrespective of Frans' age or where he is in terms of his peak, he is better than Damian at every aspect of centre play.
Damian should never have been a 12 in the first place. I always said he was more of a 13 who couldn't defend, yet had instincts of a wing - as we saw throughout the 2015 super rugby season. It would be some achievement to carry a player like this to a World Cup final. The odds of making it that far, placing your hopes in Damian's hands are remote to say the least.
As for Willemse. I have my doubts. When our players enter the test arena what you see is what you will get from them now, ten tests later all the way to 50 tests. There are very, very few backs who have been an exception. This looks like another player without the software. Preloaded with SARU Vista 98. If he is going to prove us wrong, it'll be when he matures in a couple of years. He simply isn't cut out for test rugby right now.
I remember those better younger players. Conrad "Mega Punt" Jantjes, Werner Greef, Gaffie, Russell, Loubscher. Only Jaco really put his hands up.
I'll say this about the current generation, we have a greater number of usable players. Back then, in Jake's day, there were your first options, a cliff drop and then the rest.
????? Funny - and delusi onal as well. Keep up the foolishness. LMAO
Dave
It is very funny to see what Mozart and AO comes up with ever as to rugby - they are sources for endless laughter based on their silliness.
Jan van Nohands. No thanks. We need some skills if we are going to compete with the best teams in world rugby. We are the only tier 1 nation that is moving in the direction of static phase play with blunt runners. Quite frankly, it's becoming an embarrassment.
For those not blessed enough to have played in the backs
It cannot be as big an embarrassment as what Meyer came up with. LMAO
If any single person, can honestly stand there and say that Os and Monty were not fantastic in that world cup win, and also contributed hugely to us taking that world cup...…. then you are letting some previous personal or emotional incident or issue, stop you from thinking like a rational man.
Dave, I often agree with some of your opinions and suggestions that you post, but I completely disagree with your assessment of these two players at that world cup
Why is pakie blind and delusional?
Apparently Dave and Mike don't think this is a line break. They probably also missed the fact that it directly created a try.
No
I never said it was not line break 0 but the story of a try contribution was not in evidence and he was not credited with such by anybody bar a few on site/
De Allende did much more in the games than Fatso did, He defended well and did not allow a player to run past him - and aside from that he was to be credited more with scoring of a try than Steyn. He also was exceptional in ball protection and recovery.
All I said - he did mot do enough to qualify for inclusion in the WC squad and will not get in at all.
Damian's only good showing was in the lacklustre Puma test. There, nothing very constructive, but when play became scrappy he was disruptive. I counted two strong carries. That was it. Nothing better than Frans or Andre. In fact, it was a little less than what I expected of Olivier.
Sorry - I should have said a line break without qualification. .
AO - LMAO
Coming from you, that's a very reassuring complement. Danke.
Pakie, I'm sure that's a set move by the Boks, and they can be glad PSDT wasn't blown for obstruction....but Steyn ran a good line there...but anyone on here saying that Fransie should be the Bok starter is saying it built on hope and desperation and not based on evidence...there were some positive signs, but he still has much to prove.
Yeah he could easily have been blown for obstruction. It looked somewhat like the same move with which we scored against NZ with Steph running the dummy, but I think the wayward pass from Faf tanked it and the break from Steyn got things going again.
I personally think that the Pumas were ,more worried about Du Toit carrying the ball than the pace-deficient Steyn, Steyn did niot get very far before he was tackled anyway,
@ Draad,
That's more of a B&R move than a set play. Called by first receiver after a breakdown or the Scrum half if hitting straight from the ruck. Blocker (B) runs back into where the ball is coming from while the pass goes behind to reciever(R) who's on the lateral slide who then straightens through the gap/half gap.
Any player who will be first reviever or acting as scrumhalf calls it and all players around should know their role when they hear it.
So sort of a pattern of play rather than a set move.
Marginal if Du Toit was obstructing as Steyn has already received the ball before the Argie makes contact with Du Toit. Good blocking line by Steph.
Mozart finally has gone dilly. Next space in asylum for rugby illiterates await.
