When I first saw him on the pitch today vs the All Blacks, I thought he was a tight forward lumbering back to get the ball and wondered where the fullback was.
Then he started popping up all over the place like chasing his own kicks. For someone of his size and age, he is faster than he looks.
His territory kicking boot reminded me of how critical he was to the 2009 Boks when they beat the All Blacks 3-0.
When he has time and space at the back, he can thump the ball backwards ensuring the Boks play the game in the opposition half.
Frans Steyn works for the Bok style of play to ensure that the game is played in the opposition half- even if he is past his prime.
He can punt or grubber into the opposition territory with kicks that roll across the floor so hard and fast they are difficult to field, and now there is the 50/22 law...
