Ref clearly impedes French scrumhalf as MacKenzie scores, and deems it okay after watching the replay. Shocking stuff. What is rugby officials smoking these days?

That decision of the ref was weird.  He should have given a scrum with an All Black throw in

That one was a little strange in that the ref looked at the replay and didn't hesitate to confirm the try. He was in the way of the 9 but must have ruled he wouldn't have made the tackle. No doubt we will hear more.

Can't claim the credit there ( mores the pity). It was on the SA Rugby Magazines facebook page in the comments section.

I only caught the review part of that incident, which looked like it was held up. If the ref initially gave it because he saw it grounded he should have stuck to his guns and not referred it.

The scrumhalf appears to be in an offside position in the photo. He is in front of the scrum

Good catch Sharbok no one else noticed that. Maybe that's why the ref decided his block did not impede the scrum-half. However, he didn't call off-side advantage. We may hear more about try as even the kiwi press is debating it.

Spoken to a ref. And he thinks right decision was made. He says the SH appears to be in an offside position. And is actively pushing off the ref. Looking for a card. A Smith was than unmarked. And mckenzie well in his rights to run through. Frustrating for France. Have not got the rub of the green at all in this series. But their is no conspiracy here folks. ABS simply outplayed France across the park. Partic at the breakdown. I like the look of the new players too. Partic Goodhue. Looks to be a Conrad type with a bit of extra x factor. SBW played well too. Some real depth their. At ten too. I also liked Frizell and Hemopoe. Strong ball carriers.

Hi 3K, I spoke to the ref also & he is sticking to the story so we are fine there. He did ask me about the payment - very indiscreet of him - and I denied everything of course (with a wee wink).

Is Wardad taking care of this or is it your turn?

PS Ed, please make sure the SA posters don't see this I wouldn't want to upset them more than they already are.

JW, always considerate of his internet mates

PPS: don't worry about wee Beeno, I have photographic evidence he is riding the All Black bandwagon now

Beeno up to no good as usual

Such treachery... what will wee "Black- SA Farmer" say?

...from what i've read there's no rule for accidental blocking of a would be tackler...the ref can only stop play if the ball or the ball carrier touches him and either side gets an advantage...so tough titties but that's just the way the cookie crumbles mes amies ..

LAW 6: REFEREE

THE BALL OR BALL-CARRIER TOUCHES THE REFEREE OR NON-PLAYER
10. If the ball or the ball-carrier touches the referee or other non-player and neither team
gains an advantage, play continues. If either team gains an advantage in the field of play,
a scrum is awarded to the team that last played the ball.
11. If the ball-carrier touches the referee or other non-player in in-goal and either team gains
an advantage:
a. If the ball is in possession of an attacking player, the referee awards a try where the
contact took place.
b. If the ball is in possession of a defending player, the referee awards a touch down
where the contact took place.
12. If the ball is touched by the referee or other non-player in in-goal, the referee judges
what would have happened next and awards a try or a touch down at the place where
the contact took place.

And is actively pushing off the ref. Looking for a card.

A card for who and for what? He seemed to be watching the ball right until the point it came out and only made contact with ref when he tried to shift across. Didn't seem to be deliberately pushing into the ref before that.

True though about offside - the scrum was wheeling and France #9 looked to be in line with the mouth of the scrum, which is surely offside yeah. Certainly more to think about than I originally thought while watching the game. Even the NZ commentators thought it was a travesty at the time. Looking forward to seeing more views on this emerge.

In this case #2 below would apply, yes? So he would be offside then.

-----------

Craig Joubert: The scrum half effectively has 3 offside lines:

i. If he chooses to stay close to the scrum as the direct opponent of the opposition player who has fed the scrum (i.e. within 1m), then his offside line is the ball.

ii. If he wishes to fan out across the field then he must retire to the 8th mans feet

iii. Or he may take up the offside line for other backline players which is 5m back from the 8th mans feet.

Cos their is no law about a ref impeding a players line. And the fact the French player ran into the ref. Not other way round. Theirs no Law to overule it. So either Abs would of got a reset scrum and scored most likely anyway. So pro would not of changed anything.

Cos their is no law about a ref impeding a players line.

It would seem so, only in cases of the ball or the ball carrier touching the ref. Fair enough then, and my apologies to the ref.

Not that it would have made a difference.

The French are a very sad sight to behold.

They shouldn't be allowed to play top tier tests anymore.

Even the Goats under Coetzee cleaned them up.

Hahahhahaha very funny JW!!

Every week its the same old same old. Kiwis caught crooking. Then the same old same old from the kbbs - there is nothing here we did nothing wrong. Protestations of innocence by the kiwi bandits!!

The incident was obviously a planned move. Was this all discussed with the ref beforehand. Folks nothing is beyond possibility when you are dealing with a kiwi!!! They are, alas, a dark stain on the noble game!!!

Hansen has called on World Rugby to show leadership and sort out the situations we saw this June with the refs. Things like the power of the TMO in the case where the ref says he saw the grounding and the TMO effectively overruled him, or the case where the French fullback was red carded (and according to the laws rightly so) but World Rugby over turned the ref's decision. It makes it very hard for the ref and gets a few fans a little perturbed (some are downright certifiable).
I hope they get matters cleared up before the RWC as if not we could be in for a stormy time and that's not good for the game.
