It's a hell of a gamble starting Willemse. I don't understand the thinking. I've warmed up to him this season, but we won't get full value with him under this coach. We'd need a higher IQ team around him.
This could all still workout, for tomorrow. As we've seen this season, it's not really a good approach. I don't think this All Black side is all that. Fozzie will fluff the tactics and they'll fold.
Willemse was terrible against England. Granted he's been good the rest of the season, so we'll see. Willie is a terrific attacking cog but so erratic that him at 15 wouldn't have made me feel any better I guess.
I think that tackling Stat is because weaker teams have had to perform much more tackles. I don't see any Irish, French or NZ players in the top 30 either .

The English are there, Irish are there, Argentina are there. Considering how low our tackling efficiency and line integrity has been in the tournament, I tend to think of the Boks as a lowly defensive side. Steph, Libbok, Damian, and many others have been predictable poor. Consider how much defending we have done against Scotland, Ireland, France, and England, and even Tonga... I'm not going to let the Boks off here.

They create tries. There are very, very few instances where the Boks have created anything or looked like creating anything. If we want to look at a player with runs in open space we have to look at every Arendse try. He is Nokwe² . Jordan is better than our wings, though Kolbe is genuinely world class.

Agreed Pakie. I can't recall one thing Willemse did that was good. That said, Willie is easier to play off of. He masks the limitations of the game plan and the lesser players around him. Or at least, he can. I miss how Meyer used him, and Pollard. We've never seen that production again! Willie will be needed. I feel a lot less confident with him not starting.
