With his pace, and frame Bale could have been special playing rugby as well. It's amazing that a fake like Beckham,  who failed in almost every big match...is so lauded, when this kid does everything Beckham does at the penalty spot and so much more. He is the most exciting thing to watch in sports,  right now.

He was a good rugby player at school, went to same school as Sam Warburton (Wales) in Whitchurch Cardiff. He was in fact good at all sports.

Good one Mozzie...haha...apart from composing music you have other talents too...enjoy your wit...as quick as silky hands Jantjies is with the ball.

It has always interested me is the versatility of some players that play both sports...I think of Herschell Gibbs apart cricket he could have made in rugby and soccer. Also if my memory does not fail James Small was a prospect in soccer as well. I know Butch James's,dad, Michael was a soccer player of note. Michael was sort of ostracized at Maritzburg College (rugby was a religion there) because he played soccer outside the school...quite ironical that his son became a world cup winning fly-half. Butch could play soccer too.

Must be a hard decision to select when you enjoy both...a lot of cricketers have had further potential in rugby...I remember Hansie captain Grey Bloem 1st XV...the late Ruben Kruger was in that side.

My son would be pleased to hear your take on Bale, he is a Spurs fan and Bale is his favourite player.........big loss to England, given Wales offer nothing as a national side. Much like Giggs, these Welshmen are very patriotic.

I dont watch much football, but Bale looks a class act
