Gatland blasts NZ tactics

and quite rightly of course! Their illegal blocking is legendary!

British and Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland has accused New Zealand players of illegal blocking and urged officials to clamp down on the tactic in this week's first test against the All Blacks.

Gatland said off-the-ball obstruction was endemic in New Zealand rugby and his players had been blocked throughout their five warm-up games, costing them valuable attacking opportunities.

The New Zealander made his comments ahead of the Lions match against Waikato Chiefs on Tuesday, but they were aimed squarely at Jaco Peyper, the South African referee in charge of Saturday's first test at Eden Park.

"The frustrating thing for us is the amount of blocking that's going on, the off-the-ball stuff," Gatland told reporters.

"It makes it difficult to complete attacking opportunities and situations because there is so much happening off the ball in terms of holding players.(SOMETHING THE HAWK EYED BEENO HAS COMMENTED ON OF COURSE)

"We've raised it with the referee already. If you listen to the referee's mic, they were talking about it constantly through the Maori game. They gave a couple of penalties for blocking.

"It's one of the hardest things to pick up because it tends to happen quite a long way off the ball."(WHEN ITS COMES TO UNLAWFUL PLAY NZ HAS GRADUATED WITH HONOURS!!!)

Gatland said the blocking impeded his players' ability to compete in the air, nullifying the Lions kicking game and costing them tries.

He said officials stopped the tactic in the Maori All Blacks match last Saturday, coinciding with the Lions' best performance on tour so far in a 32-10 win.

But he said such shepherding was often difficult to spot and warned "we'll keep raising it". (WE HAVE BEEN LAYING THESE KBBS FOR YEARS AND NEVER RAISED IT!!!!!!!!)

"When you go back and look at the tapes and look at all the stuff off the ball, where someone’s run a line or stopped someone getting through, some of it is very subtle," he said.

"That’s made it difficult. It’s part of the game in New Zealand, all New Zealand teams are doing it at the moment... we’ve just got to hope the referees, assistant referees and the TMOs pick up what's going on."

Gatland's allegations are sure to raise hackles in the All Blacks' camp, particularly after he said New Zealand coach Steve Hansen was "worried" about the improving Lions.

Hansen has been firing barbs of his own in the lead-up to the test, accusing Gatland of having only one style of play and claiming inside knowledge of the Lions reinforcement.

Springboks Frans Malherbe and Oupa Mohoje were issued citing commissioner warnings on Sunday for foul play in the second test against France at Growthpoint KINGS PARK.

Citing Commissioner, Eugene Ryan, (IRFU), ruled the pair were guilty of “cynical, reckless and dangerous” play. The warnings will form part of each players’ disciplinary record but do not carry an immediate sanction.

Malherbe was warned for breaching law 10.4 (f) dangerous obstructing of a player without the ball when he blocked French flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc by “dropping his shoulder” into the player’s chest as he pursued a kick in the 52nd minute.

Mohoje breached Law 10.4 (e) and (f) for a dangerous tackle of a player above the line of the shoulders and obstructing a player without the ball when he cleaned out French wing, Yoann Huget, beyond the ruck after 11 minutes of the first half.

Obstructive running is annoying as fans and it is easy to be subjective. Camera Angles can also be deceiving. If your own team gets away with it, it never happened. If the opposition gets away with it, it becomes part of a cheating conspiracy. 

The tackling of players without the ball on the fringes of the ruck is at epidemic levels. Not good, but NZ teams do this as aggressively as anybody else.

Gatland is now making it clear he has asked security to conduct sweeps to ensure there are no bugs.  Coaches are really ramping up the niggle.

 All teams are doing "off the ball stuff". ALL the teams.

and it's pure BS to say that it's "endemic in New Zealand", a kiwi "tactic", "part of the game in New Zealand" or that "NZ teams do this as aggressively as anybody else"

One of the Mahoje incidents_Poor timing since he caught the French player just a touch early, before he hit the ruck.
The other Mahoje incident, in the line...this is what Kiwi teams do each week. Kiwis even get into the defensive line early and then run laterally to prevent defensive players getting out wide to where the Kiwis are running the ball. They'll often run with their arms spread out to prevent players getting past them....would you like me to post some evidence of this?

The New Zealanders have been accussed of cheating for many years now ... and film footage has confirmed it over and over again. Why they've been left to continue is beyond me. The deck is always stacked when p laying against them.
