Meyer has missed a trick by not including him. Talk about being out of tune - hell CJ could have won a cap, thereby securing his future services as a Bok instead of potentially losing him to Ireland.

Given his form and the fact that the Bok loose trio has been poor, why on earth not select CJ Stander ahead of the clueless Jaques Potgieter.

Meyer is taking us nowehere with his unimaginative squad. Hell it would not have taken much to improve on his poor selection and had a side along the lines of the following taking on Oz:

15. Lambie 14. Jordaan 13. JJ Engelbrecht 12. Frans 11. Mvovo 10. Goosen 9. Hougaard 1. Beast 2. Strauss 3. Jannie 4. Etzebeth 5. Bekker 6. Coetzee 7. CJ Stander 8. Vermeulen 16. Pienaar 17. Habana 18. Jean 19. Kitshoff 20. Fourie 21. Flip 22. Daniel

Saffex

share your opinion in respect of quite a number of players mentioned by you - but I do not think that the team indicated by you would fit into the game plan Meyer applies.   I agree with you about Potgieter - but Stnder is too good and would never ever be selected ahead of PotgiIeter - think the reason is that indivdualism is frowned upon at present.

Saff, I would never play Stander at 7 and leave Willem Alberts out. He's the best option at 7 in the country.

Snapster I would have dropped Kruger who will never dominate at international rugby level and I would have had Elstadt  - 118 kg - in my squad to cover lock and 7. Having Alberts, Elstadt and Vermuelen as our big loosies I would then have dropped Potgieter and brought in C J Stander as a more pacy ball player. Coetazee and CJ then being your more pacy players.

Beeno solves the conundrum. If only Meyer would phone me. I do not like forcing my opinions on coaches. Hahahahahahahahaha

There is good in the Currie Cup...and good playing NZ. Two totally different things. So many of these guys flare briefly only to be revealed as good provincial players. Meyers obsession with Potgieter is inexplicable though.

Moz I do not think Potgieter had too bad a game and I noted that Planet Rugby gave him a good rating. As for CJ I think the point is we only have one fast loosie and its Coetzee. I would prefer CJ to Daniel any day. CJ is also a smart player. Decent size, nice pace and a rugby brain. I only drop Potgieter because with my selection we have enough big bruisers - ie CJ brings some balance to the loose forward resources.

cj stander was the form loose forward in spXV untill he announced he was leaving for the NH. bulls then had a sook and relegated him to the bench despite him being their most form player.
his non-selection for the Boks could be as a result of that, but i agree he could be very valuable for the Boks considering theyre dilemmas at the moment.
i know vermeulen is solid, but the games i watched him playing in the currie cup are pale shades of his form in the spXV, IMO hes not ready for the Boks and after the pumas meyer has hit the panic button.

saSUE Vermuelen could have some game time off the bench. But he is not ready yet for anything more than that.  Alberts, Louw an dCoetzee will start against Oz one would think. Louw may well play 7. I wonder if Meyer will really reshuffle and play Coetzee at 8 and Louw at 6 -seems the best bet to me.

Saffex, why would you leave Willem Alberts out of the squad? He would definately have to be at 7...Also, I would swap JJ Englebrecht with Jordaan. Jordaan is a far better ball player and play maker so can open things up from centre. JJ might fill the wing spot if Hougaard was at 9 and JP was still injured but I wouldn't wana leave Habana out either...

Nope I prefer CJ Stander at 7. JJ is better than Jordaan - nothing says Jordaan is a better ball player. I like both players, but JJ is more physical hence me wanting him at 13 and Jordaan on the wing

@ moz spot on.....CJ has great potential but there is a massive difference between CC and the castle champs. its just a pity he has signed to go over to ireland. that might have also damaged this chances but he is a great player. he might fit well in lose trio to compliment the likes of vermeulen and alberts

@sasue spot on mate..its just a pity that such a young player is not based in south africa. we cant really afford this types of players going overseas. after it was announced he is swopping braaivleis for quiness. to me it might hurt his international chances really badly.

@boklogic i agree i would have picked jordaan over jj. jordaan is very very gifted and offers alot. JJ is great prospect to. we just spoiled for choice with the new wave of young talent coming through.

with hougaard covering wing to me it makes more sense to get a jordaan in the mix.
