If South Africa is not competitive in world rugby it hits world rugby hard.   It is no the  article that will be written in foreign media on the issue and soon it will become a much more general talking point in foreign media.    That is when World Rugby will have totake a stand on the race-based selections.  So let it go on - when SA is down to nr 10 in the world rankings - action will be taken.   It will hurt supporters - but that is where it is going.

Mike

Why should it be allowed to carry on, and only if, or when, it affects World rugby's pockets or SANZAR's television rights or income should they step in.

It's reverse racism.

They can sugar coat it any way they want to, but action should be taken now.

Take a poll from all interested rugby boards, and see what happens.

I don't care at all if 15 black players take the field because they are the best in their respective positions and beat any team put in front of them week after week.

Just pick on merit

Yeah I agree ... something must be done about it now ... sadly it doesn't work like that.
They say that prevention is better than cure but that in itself is something hardly ever practiced.
The Bok will sink to an all time low and we'll be forced to watch it go.
Whether it'll ever recover to it's former glory remains to be seen. Somehow I think we're done for. Too little too late.

@Mike. That is wishful thinking. The rest of the world and World Rugby does not give a flying fig about South Africa, let alone the racial issues. The efforts of trying to get world sports bodies interested in our internal BS has not worked and will not work either. The ICC has already given the finger to people trying to convince them that action should be taken against CSA because of transformation/quotas or whatever they want to call it.
There  is not a chance that World Rugby would be any different.
There are many more pressing issues than our quota crap. World rugby is much more interested in trying to figure out ways to expand the game to where  the money is and the money is not in SA. They have figured that out long ago. They have seen the vast amounts of money that is generated by sport in Europe and America annd they know that their is no way that they will achieve that in SA or even NZ or Oz.
Fact is that although rugby is more or less a religion in NZ, it is not that big as far as generating money on a global scale is concerned. For rugby to reach the levels of income that football, rugby (in Europe), baseball, NFL, Motorsport, etc reaches, you need stadiums that are filled with spectators game after game after game. That is not happening in OZ and NZ, and it is certainly not happening in SA, and if the spectator numbers are going to go down even further, so will the chances of World Rugby entertaining our quota issues. They don't flog a dead horse, never has Never will and SA Rugby is a dead horse.
The SA Rugby boat has sailed IMO. The only thing that will save us is if we somehow find a way to overcome our sh1t ourselves. It is not going to be issue and it is not going to be quick.
Way back in the Army, we had an Afri kaans expression: "Trek af en plak toe". For those who are not familiar with it, it has its origins on the shooting range. After an exercise was completed, i.e. 10 shots application in the standing position, and the scores where transmitted from the target area the order "trek af en plak toe" came. This meant that the people manning the targets had to pull down the targets and stick little stickers over the bullet holes, so that the targets could be raised for the next exercise. That gave way for the expression to be used in any situation where you had to clear the slate and start over again.
That is more or less where SA Rugby is at the moment. They have to start over and they have to start at the bottom. Only difference is that they have to find a way of shooting at new clean targets while still shooting on the old targets at the same time. They have to keep the top going but they have to concentrate all their best efforts at the bottom. Aim at the clean targets, so to speak.
We cannot wait to see if World Rugby is going to decide to throw a lifeline somewhere in the future.
Try to be very objective and put yourself in the shoes of the rest of the world for a moment. Forget for a moment that it is not 100% true that no people of colour were ever totally excluded from playing sport. Forget for the moment also about who started the idea that certain folk should be excluded from representing SA on the sport fields.
Clinically, we had a system where we excluded certain SA citizens from representing SA on international level. Now suddenly we are crying foul when they are not even reversing the situation. Whites are not even excluded from representing SA or franchises or unions. It is only a bit more difficult to do so than what it used to be. If you were World Rugby, would you not also have been a bit unsympathetic towards South Africans who are calling for SA to be banned, again, from international sport.
I am by no means supporting the whole transformation/quota issue, nor am I in favour of all the crap that is going on as far as SA sport is concerned. I am only trying to figure out what case we have in expecting "help" from bodies like World Rugby, etc.

Reason knows the setup here is rotten, moronic and racist to the core.
I took a look a Gavin Rich's article about Ab advantage over Boks. Not a word about quotas. It can't be criticised if you want to keep your job!!! He does though make many good points.
You do not have to be rocket scientist to know WHAT'S WRONG ALTHOUGH IT WILL TAKE YEARS FOR CERUDUNCE WINDPOMP TO COMPREHENDE!

It can't be criticised if you want to keep your job!!!

Very true indeed, and sad.

So many journalists or commentators would cherish having the opportunity to voice their real opinion, but their employer will nail them with bringing the company into disrepute or some similar charge.

If they didn't, you would still be a marked individual to be shown where that front door is somewhere in the near future, or if you end up staying employed, your future promotions just got stopped dead in it's tracks.

Everyone has to be so civil these days and tactful about this, for fear of reprisals or repercussions, should they print or speak of any thought or opinion that they really believe in.

Freedom of speech......... Of course, like it doesn't have it's own deeply  hidden consequences

Everybody makes good points. Even you, Beeno. Very rarely, I have to add, but good points is not going to help one Iota. F@kol. Niks. Nada.
Everybody and every journo can squeal and wail as much as they like. They are farting against thunder. It is like one man p!ssing in the ocean to make it more salty.
It is and remains an SA problem that has to be solved by SA, and that will not change.

Wardad,Problem is all the money in the world wouldn't entice a world recognised coach. All the Bok coach needs to be is a YES man.The ONLY way is to deter those from placing there biltong backsides on seats in stadiums. Millions of South African, I reckon from all colour groups, aren't happy with the existing situation.Other problem is Whities don't don't stick together like darkies.

There is no future for the Bok under any circumstance. This is harsh but realistic. The SA BS is not going to change and as Crea says the world is not going to push our agenda.
The sooner the name and emblem go the sooner I can move on and try to find an alternate team.

Spot on MonsterBok

Can't argue those points

No white coach, national or international, in his right mind, would step into this position now

From an outsider's point of view it looks like the ANC don't give a fig about the Boks and want them to fail. The Bok emblem to them is a stark reminder of the racist regime pre-1992 and something they want to fade into history along with that regime.

There are many NZers who were anti the '81 Tour & today are proud of the stance that they took ( very unfashionable nowadays to admit being a supporter ) . However the general attitude now is ,"its their problem"  ....... "its a SA issue" ...... "none of our business ".....too complex' .

The professional practice of rugby is a drag on resources.

The practice of rugby in SA did not make SA richer. It makes it poorer.

As a result of excellent men's efforts, the practice of rugby in SA can no longer be justified as easily as it was.

The quota policy is in fact one way to justify a continued practice.

A fully white squad wont win. They will keep losing. It would be a blatant exhibition of priviledge as whites in SA are allowed to lose while non whites are condemned to win.
The ANC (a bunch of excellent men) cant afford that, want rugby to keep going (they are excellent men so anything that helps destroying resources is welcome) so they push for quotas.

Of course, quota players are losers themselves, just as the other SA rugby players. Training is so bad though in SA that even England, that starts with much less non white players are better than non white SA trained players.

This adds another reason.

The quota story is a diversion from the  increasingly imposing reality that professional XV rugby should no longer be practised in SA.

SA cant train winners, no matter their race. And can no longer afford squandering resources on stuff like rugby.

People can have much of that stuff as they want by looking at SA under the excellent men.

Taking a look at the boks is one way to do it.
