Not only is he a kak player, he is a yellow belly........and let me guess there are still some clowns on here who would select him as our Bok 10 after that pathetic performance in every department yesterday.
What a useless player

Morne could still be the 1st choice bok if he drastically improve his passing, running and kicking ability.
Until such time he needs to go back to Vodacom 2nd division curry cup rugby.

Now in his eighth season at this level, the extremely fit pivot will be looking for 1000 career points and a 100th cap in Super Rugby, as well as adding to his three Super medals.
Add manning up as well - the way he backed away from contact at times was embarrassing. The guy is just poor, his decision making yesterday was pathetic and his execution was even worse. What a sad excuse for a pivot. Morne effectively lost that game for the Bulls, while Carter, the real deal won it for the Saders - the contrast summed it up
A disaster at 10 NO MATTER WHAT DIVISION.
Yep and yesterday was the icing on the cake - he was shocking
@ sharkbok
Earl Rose, Steven Sykes and Bjorn Basson would also be great fly halves if they drastically improve their passing, running and kicking ability.
More Morkel could also be our opening batsman if he drastically improves his batting!!
snapster beating the same old drum again.Yaaaaaaawn.
Snapster if you think Morne lost the game you need a lesson in rugby set at 101 level. Hahahahahahhaha
Surely he wasnt the only reason. A great deal is being said about the crusties. Few however note bulle scored two tries and the crusties much vaunted attack could only manage 1 against a bulle side that misfired in 1st half but looked a good deal better in second.
No as I noted early last year the bulle pack is not up to it. Having reminded you of this and given you a clue reconsider your stance snapster.
Dave if you got the blow to the head Morne got they would have carried you from the field....if two chaps could actually lift you.
Morne was so scrambled on his next punt he did a drop kick. But he came back to do his best. He carried 5 times for 20 metres and made 9 of 11 tackles. Your yellow belly assertion is in itself a cowardly acusation from somebody not in the action.
We may have to move on from Morne if he doesn't get his confidence back and can't adapt to a more....ball in hand...game.
But he has won a Lions series and a TN for us, so cut the lousy assertions.
Beenkop you really have no idea do you - next you will be telling us the Bulls dominated that game - go back to bed man.
Let me guess you thought Morne had a good game rugby guru???
snapster I trust by now you have read Moz's post which was fair comment.
Now excercise that lonely brain cell and think what, besides Morne, led to the bulle demise. Remembering snapster that there were 15 men on the field for the bulle the entire 80 minutes. Your denigration of morne is over the top. Lacks balance and insight.
Your silly dismissal of the bulle fails to note a pretty good second half. This is NOT a great bulle side but their defence and second half earned them some respect. Of course those unable to manage their emotions have to savage the side to get some relief.
I noted the crusties lack of tries against an excellent Bulle defence because some think they will automatically beat the Stormers at Newlands. It shows in other words snapster their attack can be nullified.
Mozart and Beeno
I do not think it is possible to find a nicr person than Morne Steyn in the rugby fraternity - but I have to agree with Saffex here. Morne never was a real flyhalf - he was a kicking flyhalf and a poor one at that in his recent games. His passing and linking game wa s always problematic and he definitely is not what I would call a top class flyhalf. Whilst he is playing in the Springbok team the major strategy will always revolve around the kicking game - never the backline moving game.
Mozart himself said thet Engelbrecht did nothing yesterday - but he never got the ball to try anything. Steyn and Olivier saw to that.
I think that the Bulls did not have the forwards to allow for backline play - so I believe that the backline was neutralized in the process/
Now about the Crusaders - there is really something amiss in that team. The Bulls especially in the first half played badly and gave away far too many convertable penalties. However - if that is cut out the Crusader one try against good defence is just not good enough. Elsewhere I said I believe they are going to lose against the Chiefs - if they do win and hace to travvel to Cape Town their chances of winning could be put at something like 30%.
The New Zealand teams will have to start praying the Sharks beat the Stormers and that they have to travel to new Zealand for the final. Three intercontinental trips in three weeks are basically from a team perspective just not possible. If they have to travel to Cape Town for the final - their chances of winning are extremely low.
Morne was useless before he took that little knock, has been useless all year and his Bok record is poor as well, I dont give a toss about a Lions series.........his overall record with the Boks is poor and that is what counts and paints the real picture about what a sub standard rugby player this guy is.
To select a player purely on the strength of his kicking was a always a gamble, the guy sells the side short in every other aspect. Morne has gone from average at best, to poor and is now a complete liability.
Sadly we will see this sad excuse for a pivot at 10 for the Boks for a little while longer, until Meyer is forced by losses to NZ and Oz to rethink this whole Bulls approach and playing a talentless man at 10.
Morne was pathetic and lost that match for the Bulls. By contrast Carter was a master.
Beenkop, I have not read your post, I cant be asked as you speak too much kak
Mike I think Moz indicated it could be time for a change and I am of the same opinion. But to call Morne a yellow belly is disgusting stuff.
To say Morne was the cause of the bulle loosing is to lack all perspective and is the opinion of a biased twit.
snapster is full of K#K at times.
and Beenkop, you are one stupid ignorant twit. I'll say it again Morne is a yellow belly - get it loud and clear?
Now be a sport and give me your informative veiw on Morne the rugby player - give it to me in English, take your time over it, get a buddy to proof read it before you post it.......dont post anything resembling that pathetic garbage you sprouted a few days ago about your time on the the other board - hell bud did you read through that before you posted it?
A serious question, are you Afrikaans?
Guys, lets not make assumptions here based on personal emotions about the guys and look at the facts here. Firstly, let me make this statement which is true. A good team will always have a world class half back pairing. If your 9 and 10 are not good, you will never be great.
We had Fourie Du Preez so why was PDivy's record as bok coach poor when he selected the best team he good. Simple. It was breaking down at 10. Morne stands far too deep and our "big" backs have to play out of their skins just to make the advantage line. I would have loved to see what guys like Frans Steyn, JDV and Jacque Fourie could have done with a 10 that plays in the oppositoins face like Lambie. Imagine that power getting the ball on the advantage line not 10 metres behind. Our forwards would be on the front foot and we would dominate. PDivy could have had one of the best records as Bok coach. 10 is your link between forwards and backs. He is the decision maker and can win you a game based on his decisions. Morne clearly has not done that enough. Look at the past Bok flyhalves that were successful. Butch James, Henry Honiball, Joel Stransky. All 3 were in your face players and did not shy away from the physical stuff. Lambie in time will be remembered like that. Morne is not and has never been the answer. If we are playing a man because of his goal kicking prowess (which is not even that great anymore) then I am afraid we are missing a trick and as long as that happens, the AB win record against the Boks will keep growing.
So to sum it up Saffex. You are right. Morne is kak and his record in the Bok jersey is proof. Our only chance of beating AB's in Dunedin later this year is if Morne is playing Currie cup...This year the Bulls are 1 from 5 or 6 against Kiwi opposition with the lone win against Saders in Loftus. That just proves that the Kiwi's are on to him and that kicking game plan. It sends shivers down my spine to think that a series of poor kicks will have Israel Dagg, Cory Jane, Zac Guildford, Julian Savea and all the rest running it back at us.
I would hardely credit Morne for winning the B Lions series. He missed the 1st test which is the one that South Africa dominated the most- perhaps related to Morne not being on the field.
He came on in the 2nd test- and those were the days when he was an excellant pole kicker- and yes he did get a crucial kick that wrapped up the 2nd test. However it was a long kick and Frans Steyn was on the field and could have also got this.
As for the 3rd test- well lets just say that was PDV changing players so much their was no game plan- I cant even remember if Matfield and Smit were on the field to do the coaching.
Sapp wants Jantjies....that sends shivers down my spine.
Jantjies should have been given a chance in the 3rd test- Morne was dreadful, perhaps his worst test. At the very least Jantjies would have had a bad game and we could then have ridiculed him and highlighted all his weaknesses to at least rule him out of the equation indefinetily. Their is a small chance he would have played well- his pole kicking is currently better than Morne, his attack(passing and running) is better than Morne. ok both cant tackle well but with flyhalfs sometimes they are not good tacklers. I personally would rather have seen Jantjies than the garbage dished up by Morne in the 3rd test. ( I credit Morne for being good with ball in hand in the 1st 2 tests- much better than he normally is- but that may also have been the result of having Frans Steyn on his inside.)
I expect that Jantjies if given chances- will rule himself out. But surely he cant be worse than Morne in the 3rd test.
He was standing in the pocket to do drop goals- clearly the game plan. Twice he did this, but did not take the drop goal, instead going for a crash ball about a million light years behind the advantage line. An example of Morne losing metres and not gaining them.
However Jantjies is not better than Pat Lambie or Peter Grant. It should have been Grant on the bench. When Johan goosen is back he is easily better than all our flyhalfs and the position is his.
On current form- Morne may not even make the 4 nations bench. I think Lambie and Peter grant have the inside on the flyhalf position.
Sharkbok, Morne is off form and nobody is saying he should continue as Bok flyhalf. What is being objected to is his being called yellow bellied by fat boy. Also I object to a simplistic analysis by said fat boy that the bulle loss can be laid soley at Morne's door.
Surprised you are appealing to Mike for assistance snapster. Remember our shoutbox discussion?
Beeno
I never said anything personal or nasty about Morne Steyn as a person - a yellow belly he is not. He tries his best within the limited playing capacity and approach. The first time I really saw Morne Steyn playing on higher level was the final of the Under 21 WC in Argentina. In that game he was a handicap and he missed all conversion attempts.
Even at that early stage in his playing career he was a player with limited capacity. Those days he could kick out balls directly into touch - and that was his forte. The later rule changes neutralise him further and I cannot see how he can be retained by Meyer.
To his credit - his defence improved markedly through the years - something a yellow-belly will not achieve. Initially the teams ran all over him and they attacked through the channel. However, he was never a 100% solid defender. An example was one high tackle on Carter on Saturday that nearly took off his head and could have resulted in even a red card.
Morne never was an attacking flyhalf - maybe his approach was drilled into him by his coaches. Be it as it may a typical example was the recent Super 15 game between the Sharks and the Bulls. When it was clear that the Bulls would lose by the proverbial mile - Morne started to pass the ball to his backline - with a notable degree of poor success. being such a rare occurence the players did not know what to do with the ball and the result did not improve as a changed strategy.
One must never launch personal attacks on people in a forum like this - rather stick to proven facts and argue around that. I am never in support of phrases such as "yellow-belly" - if one cannot say that to the face of a person - do not say that on a forum like this.
One of the best posts this week clevermike
Mike I am well aware you did not call Morne a yellow belly and your views re Morne are fine as they are your views and expressed in an acceptable way.
I think most agree he should step down now. Its just the extreme criticism and questioning his courage that was distasteful.
But lets move on. Hopefully who ever takes over will do better.
Snapster you clearly have run away and do not care to repeat here what you said so bravely on shoutbox. But Morne is a yellow belly? Hahahhahahahahahaha
barlee reaching fo his banning button after some snapster insults. Snapster back peddles as fast as possible. Lots of sucking up and then - but I always knew you knew that he slurps - ie the high regard I have for you barlee. Suck suck. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha hilarious!!!!
You are a doggie on a leash snapster not the rugged independent you make youself out to be.
But if you want to insult folk rather be man enough do it here so the folk concerned can see it and know where they stand.
Beeno offering good advice to a wayward snapster. All doggies need a good dog trainer after all!! Hahhahahaha
This honestly seems as pointless as arguing over the colour of the sky.... Morne has never been a strong defender and has always backed away from contact. His running game has never matured, but this is not the way the Bulls have played rugby in the past, so it has suited the team. Now suddenly, you want to shout it from the rooftops as something new?
Did he have another shocking game this weekend... hell yeah. But, this nonsense of blaming a single player for teams sh*t performance is so silly. The Bulls were pathetic (All of them), the cheetahs or Lions would have put a better performance in against the Crusaders. After their recent performances including the English tour, there was no real hope for the Bulls and I honestly did not see them winning this meeting. But, I was hoping they would at least pitch up and play. That team was limp, lifeless and quite honestly pathetic. Don't go around beating your chest and pointing out the obvious, Morne has needed to be replaced for a very long time now. But, I think it has been a case of the coaches and management trying to give him time to "recover" or get over this patch. Morne is kicker NOT a runner NOT a defender and NOT a passer of the ball. He has never tried to be anything else, so don't pretend like he was. Saying that his kicking has deteriorated to point of being a joke, and he does not seem to be recovering and NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.He was not the only reason the Bulls lost, it was pathetic team effort.
he is at the cross roads at the moment so i think a wake up call of being dropped might just help him get back to basics. i must say with percy as the kicking coach he was really on song during the RWC so i don know if louis koen has treid something different
Louis Skoen is no Percy,
Morne is no Carter,
Time for a change with both the kicker and kicking coach.
You get what you pay for.
Morne Steyn has been kicking badly the whole year- way before the Springbok vs pommie test, and way before Louis Koen was appointed kicking coach. Although I expect that Koen is a crap coach anyway- so lets just blame him
I wouldn't say Morne lost the game single handling.
I saw a faster, Quicker, more agressive, and more in shape side take down a big, slow side in the Bulls. I hope Meyer was watching, because that was a debacle.
Speed is the name of the game.
