good move for goosen.
top 14 and heinken cup are just as tough as the spXV, so he will still get the necessary rigours match ups to keep his skills sharp, provided of course his weak body holds up.
theres no real reason for players like goosen and other high profile players to continue playing in SA, especially with meyers and SARUs ridiculous selection policies.
might as well go for the millions especially if ur comfortable that u will be selected for the Boks
stories like what might be possibly happening with goosen/france are but one of many that will happen soon, i expect the big clubs to target the likes of le roux, lambie, lady elizabeth etc.

Selecting only local players is a backward way of thinking. Were South Africa being flooded with foreigners, now that would be a bit of a problem. As it stands it encourages an expanse in personnel, not a regression. It is only an issue when you only select local players even though they are inferior.

Selecting local players at least make sure they perform and the selection is based on performance - not reputation.

No it's not based on performance, it's based solely on discouraging players to leave. It has zero to do with performance. For many years the Boks were stuck with inferior layers who produced less than nothing just so we could send a message out. That is the very definition of backwards.

Agreed ... We should select the best we have, be they local or based overseas.
No way we can compete with the coin thrown at our boys up north.
Forcing their hand by threatening them is foolishness.
Loyalty goes only so far.
Fraid the boot's on the other foot.
Take Kockett as an example ... hands down the best scrummie available for national duty, yet overlooked. Why not earn serious coin abroad and if the call comes so be it. If it doesn't at least he's smiling all the way to the bank.
Besides that he may even become eligible to play test rugby for another country.
Time we get our priorities in order

Spot on Sun...as long as the coach feels their overseas commitments are not disruptive, choose the bes t players. Everybody will get there, even NZ, if the pressure was big enough. Right now the opposite equation works for NZ, but if rugby goes the way of soccer and Europe becomes a money magnet, that too will change.

its good for the Springboks, bad news for the local teams though.
with SA getting a 6th team in 2016 and top players leaving overseas, its not unrealistic to say that SA will never win another superrugby tournament ever again
18 tournaments to date, and only three titles to show for it??? o_O
i for one love how the All Blacks despite not picking overseas, are still daylights ahead of the rest of the world.
imagine the extinction level event the NZ rugby empire would unleash on the rugby world if we were allowed to pick overseas players??? o_O
i guess its not fair to compare that situation to other countries though, NZ players because of our rugby DNA and superior rugby upbringing will always produce more world class players then the rest of the world, a rugby factor that the others can only dream of but always be envious of,

If foreign-based players are selected as a matter of course it is an easy ticket into the Springbok team. Go and play overseas and irrespective of performance you will get an easy ride into the SA team.
That results in flops like Fourie, Steenkamp and Bakkies Botha beings elected by a mixed up coach.
This is what I call bad news. Morne will be next aafter his ckub would not have enough condifedence in hinm - as was proven by the last match of Stade Francais. .

What about the prospects of young talented boys going abroad? Why cant they too be looked at and possibly be brought into the test mix.

What a joke SARU is. Surely it is time to stop players from overseas play for the Boks, or at the very least cap it to like 2 players.
If we less players overseas, our SuperXV teams would be much stronger.

CleanCut you are spot on regards the money issue and about Kockett.
Who can blame any player from playing for top dollar (not Rands) in any professional sport.
They only have a small window to make top bucks and opportunities don't come knocking every day.
The Rand is worthless against the Pound, Franc or Dollar so who can blame the players.
Go for it guys if SARU and to stupid to understand and select only the best and not the rest then they will have to face up with second string old timers.
In Goosen's case he already has a Bok blazer and cap so what else would he require from rugby in future.....MONEY.

Goosen is hardly a Bok, having started in two tests and played less than a half in the second. If he believed in himself, with a RWC in the offing he would stay and compete....the earnings will be higher later.
Let's wait and see, perhaps he is just exploring options

mozart...when a contract with many zero's after the 1st digit and before the decimal point in Pounds/Dollars who would bet their chances in RWC (not cast in stone that SA will win) or wait another 18 to 24 months hoping another offer will surface.
He might pick up a major injury and all will be lost.
Strike high and fast is the best bet for any pro sportsperson.
The issue about hardly being a Bok, well that goes for a large number of players since transformation has been in place. But not in his case.
Goosen must look after himself and secure his future be it with or without the SARU.
I also hope your last comment turns out to be true for the sake of South African rugby.
