The game was basically dead even. each team had a chance to win it in the last 2 minutes, with very similar kicks. Goosen  makes his….the Lions kicker missed.

The difference between the two teams…the kicker. Or was it Jake White’s genius?

"If" a game is close, the goal kickers' conversion rate can have a big impact.
Although winning a penalty at a critical point in the match is just as important as the kick itself.

The Boks had the hardest draw in the tournament - and were able to win close games
 through disciplined performances under pressure.

That game showed how average Jake is - the Bulls with the players at their disposal should be blowing a side like the Lions away Instead we see Jake’s hand stumbling and stuttering to a win Jake is one average coach

Jake’s take on the close win:

'We got away with it': White happy off-colour Bulls ground out victory over LionsRefreshing honesty.

I was rather surprised by Mozart in this case.   For years Goosen was injury proned and when eh was in toip form Mozart always after each match  wrote injury reports on Goosen and D u Toit - w henever they were replaced from the ebnch,   99% of those injury reports were BS.   A n example was D u Toit injured in a match before the WC in 2015 - where he was delighted that Du Toit would be out of the WC for a year due to injury.

This type of victory by the Bulls should be seen as praising  of Jake White as a coach.   He is just impossible to get any logic from the BSter     Dav is 100% correct on what White is achieving with the Bulls team.   Unless the Bulls styart performing in this season - White will be out of his job at the Bulls.    Rupert and Motsepe made available millions to the Bulls to contract players  for the squad and if he fails again - like he did in the 2022-23 season he would get the boot ,

The Lions had zero Boks when they were destroying every franchise side in the Southern hemisphere. Jake is far from a shit coach. The current Lions are simply hitting their straps and they have some superb players. Their scrum is also starting to pump nicely.

You are wrong you will find there were Boks in the Lions squad when they were beating SH sides How long ago did the Lions beat a full strength Stormers side in CT? Jake is as average as they come - has always been. Saved by Eddie Jones as a Bok coach

Er….wrong. Jake won a Trinations and was within 5 minutes of winning a second. Harrassmiss  never won a proper RC in 3 attempts. I discount the WC prep years.

And Jake was playing against really good AB and Wallaby teams. Harrassmiss has a 50% record against the weakest Aussie team we have played in the professional era.

Comparing one RC and a WC to two WC, a RC and a Lions series is insulting It’s not even close - pretender vs the real deal The only reason Jake won a WC was thanks to Eddie Jones Rassie is twice the coach Jake is. It’s not even close

Oh sure….the Eddie Jones that fixed England and Australian rugby. And Jake never had a shot at a Lions series or a second RC….I have no doubt he would have won the 2009 Lions series that the incompetent PdV  won. And with the team we had in 2011 I have little doubt Jake would have done it a second time.

If and but’s don’t count. It’s a fact Eddie Jones saved Jake. Jake was on the verge of being sacked as his record was so piss poor leading up to that WC. Instead they brought in Eddie to save Jake’s bacon Eddie Jones has one of the best England coaching records, but like Jake he is a complete prick Rassie is twice the coach Jake is

It’s true they were trying to stab Jake in the back, but he won the WC with the least support any Bok coach has enjoyed in the professional era. Which makes his WC doubly significant,

He would certainly have beaten the Lions and  in 2011 we had a great chance to win it all with a competent coach as opposed to PDV.

The only sense in which Eluckmiss is twice the coach is he probably weighs twice as much.

Bullshit he deserved to get sacked - his record was good in his first two seasons then he completely lost the plot. His record leading up to that WC was so bad he was on the verge of getting sacked It was too close to the WC to sack him so they brought Eddie on board to save Jake’s arse and it worked Says it all that a head coach needed another head coach to get him through a WC Jake is and always has been an average coach - piss poor at making selections

You despised Jake because you were fanatical about Look Watson. Fortunately for Bok rugby Jake ignored the self prompting jerk. PDV  tried the runt in a politically motivated selection. He played 4 mediocre games, then was dropped to the bench for 5 more…..and then barfed his way into obscurity.

Actually no I never liked Jake much as he was an average coach who made piss poor selections and his record leading up to that WC merited him being sacked He also always comes across as a complete prick, much like Eddie. Being a prick never sits with players - once the honeymoon period is over, the players see through the crap. Watson was a great player but his off field antics never merited him being part of a Bok squad. He was toxic and a misguided fool Me disliking Jake has nothing to do with Watson. He made poor selection calls and his record after his first 2 seasons was shit - that is why I disliked him. You don’t bring in Eddie Jones if your house is in order. Therein lies the crux

Watson was a great player…..hahahaha….a complete test flop. Jake had the confidence to bring in Eddie Jones, Eluckmiss prefers guys like Nienaber who he can dominate.

Poor Mozzie still smarting thst his many years of smearing Rassie and Du Toit have backfired on him in a spectacular fashion.

Mozzie makes an elementary error. He thinks a final kick is what won the match. He ignores what happened over the entire 80 minutes. It is an enormous error in Judgement.

He makes the same error when assessing the Ukraine war. To the dope what happened before the day of the Russians March in is irrelevant.

A catastrophic error. Mozzie has lost his marbles or is just lying.

The way he doubles down on this nonsense is remarkable.

Watson was not a test flop at all he was solid and given the circumstances brought on by himself he was always on a hiding to nothing. Besides he never played enough tests to ever make a true assessment of his ability at test level He was a better true openside flanker than Schalk was - far more gifted, better over the ball and far better with ball in hand - he was a great linking openside Schalk had the physical edge but then again Schalk was not really an openside Jake brought in Eddie or to be more precise, SA rugby did as they were desperate for someone to turn the Boks fortunes around. Rassie had his good mate on board because he could afford to have anyone he likes given what he has achieved as a coach - his position has never been in jeopardy as he keeps producing results We can’t say the same for Jake - complete failure leading up to the WC, on the verge of getting sacked as a result, Eddie brought in to save his arse and once the WC job was done they rightfully sacked Jake for they knew the WC win was not down to Jake for if it had been they would certainly not have sacked him post WC Plain to see

If you think we Watson was going dislodge Schalk over the ball you need your head read. Jake had a bad year in 2006, precisely because Schalk was irreplaceable.

Jake White era

2004 Trinations Champs.

2005 Trinations leaders until the last 5 minutes

2007 World Champs

Legacy… a team that was so good they could win a Lions series with PdV in charge.

Case closed.

Leaders until final 5 min counts for sweet fuck all One player does not make a team - especially if that player is a Schalk Burger type of player. Schalk was good but nowhere near that good 2007 World champs thanks to Eddie Jones and then Jake got sacked - do you really sack a coach that is that good or that needed Eddie’s help to win the thing - playing against England only Jake was shit and that’s why they called in Eddie and that’s why they sacked him Now that is case closed

Mostert was his usual self - making many tackles (not the job of a lock) and getting physically dominated and adding zero physical value to the engine room I’m hoping with the return of Lood we will never see Mostert in a Bok team again - turns 34, always been shit so hopefully the WC was the end of him RG is back in Feb and Lood keeps scoring tries since his return from his heart condition
