The following from the book Republic of Gupta:-
"At the official announcement of the deal, Sahara Computers introduced Smith as the company's new "brand ambassador". His first task in his new role clearly was to convince the cricketing public that the name changes would be good for the sport."
"Though details about the arrangement between Sahara and Smith were scant, the Proteas captain indica ted that he would be required to represent the Gupta's computer firm 'at certain public events. There were no details on how much money stood to make from the deal."
Nothing can be worse than being involved in any Gupta company and getting paid by them. I always thought that Hansie Cronje was wrong in doing what he did - but the actions of Smith was worse - he became part of the state capture project of the Gupta's.

JE$US Mike.
You are really starting to scrape the barrel!
"Graeme Smith involved in Gupta state capture exercise"
HOW THE F WAS HE INVOLVED IN THE ATTEMPTED STATE CAPTURE?
Just because Sahara sponsored him, does not make him guilty!
Do you honestly and truthfully think G Smith had any idea of what the Guptas were up to?
Sh!t, my dad should also be in court then. He tendered for a government job in 2013 and got the job.
If your stupid moronic logic had any intellectual relevance, then the entire WICB, including ALL the players playing in Stanford 20/20 and the Stanford Super Series ) with Middleswx) are also all guilty of fraud and should be sharing a cell with Mr Stanford right now.
F*ck man you are getting on my tits.

I quoted from a book on the Guptas and Graeme Smith was in their pay. That is the lowest anyone could go in SA at present. The attack is obviously on me from the BSters - not on the chump involved with the Guptas. What a load of sheisters we have on this site.

"Sahara Park Newlands" ring a bell? Was GS personally sponsored by Sahara or was it part of his duties as Bok and WP skipper? Every journou is guilty of throwing in some fake news into a story...intentional and by ignorance. Controversy sells. There will have to be some real hard evidence of actual wrong doing before I change my opinion of GS. Sporting hero in the vein of Gary Player, Wade van Niekerk and Bryan Habana in my book...and GS is at the top of that list.

Even if he was personally sponsored by them, if takes a huge leap of faith to conclude that he would have been aware of any corrupt dealings by them. Seriously Maaik?

@mike
I somehow REEEALLLLLY doubt G Smith had any idea what the Guptas were up to.
He was sponsored back in 2008 for F sakes.
Are you bored with your life?
Has Days Of Our Lives been discontinued?
I have an idea...

Mike has never liked Graeme Smith......he'll bleat about Smithy's bad form Blaaah Blaaah Blaaah....truth be told his dislike of Smith started long before the form slump...just like his dislike of Fourie Du Preez. Pathetic.

Look - I did not write the book in which a hole chapter relates to the way Guptas tried to take over SA Cricket by sponsorship and by changing the name of the stadia.
Their agent in SA Cricket as a bloke by the name of Naidoo - who later joined the Guptas working for them full time. However, the whole scenario led to absurd situations like an SA tour of India where they were playing ODI's beating India in the first 2 ODI's. After beating India the second time the team had to fly from Bengalore to Saharapur north of Delhi to be used by the Guptas as their "property". The next day they had to travel - back to the next ODI center to play India in the third game and after travelling nearly 3 000 kms in two days they lost the third ODI.
However, while the Guptas started their capture practices when Zuma became President in 2009 it became notorious after 2013 when the real looting became more evident. So their dealings with SA Cricket was still regarded as above board in 2003 - it was already at that stage questionable and being the "poster boy" of the Guptas is not something Smith should be proud of.

University of ComradeMike: Philosophy 101.
Chapter 1: Logical thinking.
"......the [way] Guptas tried to take over SA Cricket by sponsorship and by changing the name of the stadia. "
Equates to:
"Graeme Smith involved in Gupta state capture exercise"
And there I was, thinking that SA was run by the ANC. Meantime, back at the ranch, it is actually CSA who are pulling the strings. That is if you have to believe ou ComradeMike.

A re you crazy Ceradunce. Have you never studied the state capture issue. The ANC is not running SA. Fact is the ANC is being used to rubberstamp the decisions of a clique comprising Zuma and some of his cabinet appointees all involved with the Guptas. They have all been bribed by the Guptas and the puppet maters in fact are the Guptas.
Meantime the rot is coming open quicker and quicker. There are thousands of Gupta e-mails that have been leaked and now studied by the journalists and exposing slowly to gain maximum effect.
The issue of the Guptas and cricket has already been exposed in the e-mails and fact is that Graeme Smith was the poster boy of the Guptas to enhance their interests in cricket.

Ou Maaikie, you remind me of, mr Venter, our standard 7 maths teacher in Witbank. He always call out someone to solve a problem on the blackboard. The moment you do not quite now how to solve it you normally start arguing any way to try and hopefully solve it. The moment that happened and he realised it he would always stop you and say: "Wait wait. You are now trying to go to Middelburg via Balfour".
You normally do the same. You have fecked up again and are now going from Riversdale to Cape Town via Johannesburg.
