I thought this was some type of sick joke but it appears to be true.
Liefling was always a crap one dimension kick and chase player, he makes Morne Steyn look like Dan Carter in his prime. Lieflings age is irrelevant other than he may now be worse than crap.
Matfield was past his best ages ago. He used to be one of the fastest forwards around the park, but time caught up with him.
In this latter years he only became a lineout jumper and taker of kickoffs.
Occasionally he did still turn up in the backline to mess expansive play.
Although even just these 2 areas would make Matfield better than Juandre Kruger who was hopeless in the 4 nations especially in the last test where he was a joke in the lineouts and at kick off.
It could be a Percy Montgomery scenario of a player/coach, but not the first choice.
Matfield will probably still be the best lineout jumper in the world, and still good at the restarts but not sure if he can offer much more. Could be a good way to get him and early release from his Bulls contract.

Well Liefling may not have been the best flyhalf on the planet. But anybody who got up with a smile after that viscious hit from Brian Lima is a rugger guy. He is a specific tool and will perform that function with total integrity.
Victor was simply the best lock we have seen in living memory, and my living memory spans many decades. Shame on the OOM for using this Bok great to make his snippy point.

Of course Matfield should be brought back into the Bok mix.
What's the issue?
He'll go prove himself again next year at the Bulls and then play as our starting 5 lock at the WC.
Meyer and Victor are great pals. This is a done deal. Accept it.
HouGat on the other hand was nothing special. He's just there to help out the desperate Bulls.

What is impressive about this news (if it proves true & not another press stunt) is that players want to come back. Meyer has created a desire & even old farts want to get back in the game.
ABs will bring back Buck and Meads so no worries on that score, lol

Mike ... of course your forgiven ... not sure what you've done that warrants it ... (apart from driving me insane with your Alberts comments ... which I reckon a simple kick in the head and a good choke hold would appease me anyway) ... but if it makes you feel better then by all means ... consider yourself forgiven.
Of course I don't want the old coot back in the mix. We have the worlds best lock pair in Eben & PSDT and messing with that combo is utter madness.
Soooooo .... I too repent of my wickedness.

Planetrugby quote the "Supersport" source which is the article by Brenden Nel on thier website. Nel is quoting Matfield's "recent" article in his column on the BMW website. I have checked Matfield's articles and he does not mention anything. Nel also refers to seeing Matfield training with the Blue Bulls fitness coach. From that, he has deducted a return by Matfield, which of course is very convenient for a reporter to earn a few bucks again.

Good for big Vic if he wants to help out the bulls, but please stay away from the boks. We have enough quality youngsters around that needs to be given valuable game time before the wc. Vic and bakkies had their time. Still plenty of time for the youngsters to get their caps.
