Nope Moz, that is not the point for if it was, we could get Danie Gerber to start......the fact that Guthro has a good test record, reflects on the fact that he was a damn good test player in his day.
He is now past it, much like Smit, Bakkies and co are.
My point was about how average Morne is......a current player, something Guthro should not be

better props out there then gunthro, but he hasnt been as kak i expected, not a game winner, but not hopeless either.

Ah so the raw statistic doesn't tell you much....you need to qualify it with how the player is doing now? And maybe with the average quality of the opposition, the number of RC matches, the number of easy WC pool games, the overall team success over the period he played and the quality of the corn crop?

No, the raw stats stand.......no qualifying needed.......you are either past it or not. Gunthro is past it, but the stat tells us he was a good player in his day, it is no measure for selection today.
This stat is not the single measure of the credentials of a player given rugby is a team sport but it's just another indicator stacked against the average Morne.
Morne should have been ditched after year two of his reign........I can see why we have only won 61% of our tests with Morne as our pivot.
Why would you want to select such an average rugby player in such a vital position?
