Yule in Europe was the time halfway through winter when there were celebrations by the people that better times are coming and that became the basis of Christmas.     Another day later on became Labor Day.   Before the people went out to plow and sow there ws a rest day for everybody,   That later became Labour day adopted by the unions as a public holiday and ultimately also by Governments.

History is a dangerous topic and study of it can be dangerous as it exposes problematic things of the past that is being repeated in the present era.   A visionary once said that "Take what is good and noble in the past and build on that your future".   Unfortunately the present scenario in the world is "Take what is bad in the past and enhances it to ensure a worse future for all."  Obviously that does ensure that scoundrels exempt themselves from that so that they can live on a different universe than their subordinates have to endure.

Also, Crusader. It wasn't stolen by Christians. Rather, pagans have always adapted things to their ways. They merged Christianity (which predates them) into paganism. Those who don't take the time to know the Bible at even a basic level are always stumped.

Stonehenge is estimated to be at least 5,000 years old (3,000 years before your water walker turned up) I presume you believe christians built it in anticipation that jebus would turn up one day?

Where do you get your info from?

CF

There is no record at all about the history of England before the arrival of the Romans in 70 BC.  The residents probably came from the Continent of what is today Europe - but was primitive as was the northern Europeans at the time.

There were primitive religious customs - but no real record of on what it was based.   Stonehenge was likely related to sun worship - but there is no doubt it had a religious connotation.  What is clear is that religion was a necessary component of development of civilization and that component develop written and recorded history as well.

Christian believes are the basis on which democracy developed and the initial processes were closely linked to Christianity as a religion.    To deny that is lunacy and to preach religious oppression is destructive of the very base of Democracy and in the modern era we live in would inevitably leads to dictatorships.

My approach is you can condemn certain religious practices - but in essence it is destructive and retarded leading to oppressive regimes.   We have seen enough of those in the 20th century.   That is why the modern idea is to destroy family life as a basis for civilization is destgructive as well.   The end result will never enhance human life.

My approach is people should do and practice what they believe is important to them as individuals.   If they think it is tied to religion it is important to them and is part and [pacel f modernization.   Nobody should force people to believe in things they do not believe in is contradictory to democracy.

As to comments of atheists on this site believe they are free to do as they please - but it should not be on a basis of intimidation of people with different beliefs.   The same applies to people with religious beliefs.   What is to me clear is that the present era is going to lead to oppression of people through destruction of the pillars of democracy designed to ensure people are not oppressed.   But the tendency seems to be in an opposite direction and an era of oppression is coming where the world is ruled on a dictatorial basis.      That is why what is called Western Civilization is bound to be destroyed by present tendencies.

Part of it is hypocrisy as well.   The following of civilization destruction is what the result would be.

The amazing thing here is Sader is actually schooling Clever on religion, a subject he admits to knowing little about.
