has been the best SA flyhalf so far this year. Come on man stop fantasising and make a realistic assessment. Being schooled by these two is embarrassing! Bwahahahahahahaha

MIke also please no more nonsense about Morne.

Time for the two of you to admit Morne has been the best and you got it entirely wrong.

Thanks.

As much as we all have our favourite teams and players it is neccessary to admit when a player is doing well.  At the moment Steyn is the in-form flyhalf.  There can be no doubt that based on the last couple of  games, his experience and decision making is the best.  One must also give credit to Lambie, playing behind the depleted Sharks pack can never be easy.  Those two are the form flyhalfs let there be no argument to this fact.

Yep Kalead these are the two best thus far followed by Cat. (Goosen being out)

LAMBIE TO MY MIND HAD HIS BEST GAME OF THE SEASON. I THINK HE NEEDS TO USE THOSE TWINKLE TOES A BIT MORE. HE HAS THE ABILTY TO BREAK A LINE AND ALSO THE BALL SKILLS TO GET IN A DECENT OFF LOAD.

Morne actually had a dip in form due I think its agreed from playing continous rugby for a number of years.

Unfortunately rather than blame poor player managment Morne was crucified by some including the two worthies mentioned. Hahahahahaha - time to bring them to account!

Beeno

I wrote the following about Morne Steyn in another thread and want to repeat it here to clarify the issue - especiallysince it reflects my feelings on Morne Steyn quite clearly:-

"However, on second thoughts I want to state clearly that I like what I see of him (Stey) more and more.  He did not only turn around his poor kicking form of last year - but there also was a substantial change in his playing style in evidence this year,  That style change came through more clearly  in the try scored against the Westrn Force earlier in the season, as well as the one yesterday gainst the Waratahs.   That was to my mind a major improvement in his play and he cut out most of his previous negatives.   Maybe the fact that he did change was due to the fact that he was left out of the Springbok team last year- that i believe showed him that there were serious deficienies in his game.  Good for him that he managed to get over that in a positive manner."

There is clear evidence that the situiation as to standing so deep in the pocket that he might as well be in the carpark and the issue of not attacking the gain line himself is not applicable this year - as well as better service to the backline is what is most noticeable in the improvement in Steyn's performance.   I do not necessarily think that it is due to the ciaching itself that he improved - it is also amnifested in his improved reading of games.   Hope the situation is sustained and he continues in this way.    A this stage he should be ahead of Lambie in the selection stakes race.

ehem Mike I do hate to point out it was not a case of second thoughs given your 1000 odd posts bashing Morne.

Also I have to say I think you dont know the simple reasons for Morne's return to form. The first being of course he was never the crappy player you and ou snapster suggested and secondly he had a rest at the end of the year because, as I pointed out on many occassion, he had been badly overplayed.

Anyhow when  even complete half wits like bar lie and folke ogre realise Morne is okay then only the totally brain dead would not realise it.

But Mike I do give you credit for seeing the error of your ways. I also note ou snapster is on full retreat on this issue.  Imagine being schooled by bar lie and folke ogre. How totally embarrassing!!!

Dave's rugby knowledge is like his fence, full of gaps........ thought he'd man up & acknowledge that Steenkamp has been consistently amongst the best Stormer players this year, but no, a player he dismissed as being 'a waste of space' is ignored  . Like his evaluation of Morne he was once again dead wrong .

Morne had a good game this weekend, but then so did Lambie. Lambie is a far better rugby player. Conclusion, Lambie should be the Bok 10 - easy choice.

Blob, Steenkamp offers nothing other than the odd line-out take and steal. From and enforcer, I expect to see him running with ball in hand and clearing out rucks, just like Bakkies did for Toulon yesterday, or like Etzebeth, de Jager, Flip, Bresler and PSDT do all the time. The guy has done a job for the Stormers but they lack a true enforcer and they will notice the difference when Etzebeth returns.

Steenkamp has been better than he has been in previous years, but he remains a very ordinary lock who does not measure up physically. Quinn Roux would have done a far better job in Etzebeth's absence.

I have to confess I underrated Steenkamp as well. He is NOT an international class lock but he is certainly an unsung hero for the Stormers Bobbok. Fine work rate and very good in the lineouts. Allistair describes his work as being very accurate.

Ou snapster will not agree of course!

Beenkop, there is more to a lock than line-out takes. What work rate - I dont recall seeing him with ball in hand on the charge, or clearing out rucks like an enforcer should. Given his size, he is hardly going to be an asset in the engine room now is he?

He is no asset to the Stormers side. The Stormers pack has struggled this year, partly because they have not had an enforcer at 4. That will change the minute Etzebeth returns

There ismore to rugby apart from lineout takes Wahhahahahahahaha - I suppose what I have been telling you for so long is bearing fruit and I am delighted of course.

Snapster what besides stuffing up our backline did wee matfield do beside taking his lineout ball and the very occassional steal. 106 kg stringbean. At least De Kock gets stuck in!

I will grant  you he is no etzebeth but who is. Our pack has exceeded my expectations. The scrum without Tiaan has been fine. we do however miss Tiaan and Etzebeth in the tight five. Then we needed Burger at 6. failing that play Deon Fourie ahead of Kolisi - man that is a must move. Also remember Elstadt was out.

Its the same with the sharkies they need Bissie and Alberts back as well as Beast of course. Make a huge difference to their pack.

Matfield was one of, if not the best lock to ever play the game. Steenkamp is not good enough for Super 15 rugby.

Fourie ahead of Kolisi will never happen. Kolisi is far, far better and has been in great form this year - rewarded with a Bok squad call up.

Snapster Kolisi is doing okay. Not in class of Deon right now as a 6.

Steenkamp 112 kg I think I saw - matfield at 106 kg. Go figure.

Kolisi is a 6, Fourie a 2. Kolisi in Bok squad, Fourie not - figure it out

Matfield 115kg and huge talent vs Steenkamp 112kg and no talent

Dave in a funny way I think more highly of wee matfield than you. At least I believe he is intelligent enough to know his own best playing weight which was, by his own admissinion, betwen 106 and 108 kgs.

Game set and match.

Steenkamp plays like a lock. matfield like a wannaby backline player.
