Paris - Former club player and forwards coach Fabrice Landreau was on Thursday named sporting director of Stade Francais, the Top 14 side announced.

The 50-year-old Landreau, who won four caps for France at hooker and played for Stade between 1999-2003 and took on a coaching role between 2004-9 before moving to Grenoble (2009-16) and then Toulon (2017-18), will have an off-field role overseeing recruitment and development of the academy.

Ex-Springboks coach Heyneke Meyer remains head coach in the reshuffle.

Pascal Pape, the ex-France lock, heads the academy and will welcome South African Kobus Potgieter into the fold.

Stade president Hubert Patricot said the goal was to develop local talent

 with the aim of having 80 percent of the squad to have come through

 the academy.

Stade currently sit fourth in the Top 14, nine points off leaders Clermont. 

But they are already out of European competition, lying third in Pool 2 going into 

their final Challenge Cup match against Worcester on Saturday.

Interesting how the name of the rugby club director, is called "sports director". It is clear Meyer is no longer in a combined role of director of rugby and head coach.
Meyer screwed up in the recruitment of players, and ended up with a dud backline. Only recently with Sanchez, have they started to look a bit threatening in the backline on the attack... Morne "boring" Stain has been pathetic.
Meyer tried to bring his bulls 10-man rugby brand, that only goes wide when the pack has pulled in all 15 of the opposition defenders. There is no plan b, with the Stubborn Meyer.
However the forward pack was not dominant enough- and he no longer has Willie Leroux to organise the attack, and  Hab ana and JP to make the most of limited opportunities.
Like his first year at the Boks, his recruitment drive was a disaster- even though his budget was bigger than Toulon....

Pascal Papé, director of training, who has all the confidence of the club management, will now also benefit from the experience of his former coach. Kobus Potgieter joins Pascal Papé's team as coach of the training center; he brings to the club of the capital more than ten years of experience in the Wild Rugby Academy and at the head of the German National Selection. Stade Francais have hired Heyneke Meyer as sporting director and head coach in what will be his first job since the 2015 World Cup.

Meyer will take over at Stade Francais next season after signing a two-year contract with the option of a further year, the Paris club said.

The 50-year-old will move next month to observe the end of the current campaign and prepare for the 2018-19 season.

Meyer quit as Springboks coach after the 2015 Rugby World Cup where he took South Africa to a third place finish.

He told the club website: "It's a great honour for me to join a club with such a rich heritage. I cannot wait to get involved at Stade Francais.
