Over the last week, this Board has seen some of the lousiest attacks on a Bok coach in recent memory. All about one aspect of coaching ...selection.
Set that aside, and we still have strategy, tactics and motivation to consider. Looking at the "Bok family" rejoicing together during the game....this is the most together Bok team I have seen. There are no apparent divisions.
The Bok strategy of attacking aggressively from positions of advantage was also very evident in that game. Apart from chasing tries at Ellis Park, HM has been strategically superb in the last year.
Tactically the big issue was our scrum. Bringing in Steenkamp was a master stroke. He dominated the early scrums and set the tone for Bok forward dominance. And clearly the much maligned Steenkamp/ Victor axis worked well. But more importantly we were prepared.
So coming back to selection. We see young players being blended in to a settled team. Which great young player who would immediately add to the Boks is not being selected? Name that individual....I can't.
HM is ticking all the boxes in a thoughtful coaching regime.
