HMs subbing touch

HM is following the usual path for a Bok coach, withering mindless criticism. Every day with no relief. Win and he should have selected player x sooner. Lose and he has no clue.
So this is just a pebble into the pond of animosity. Take a look at when he subs players against Italy.
Goosen makes a nice open field tackle and is subbed.

Nyakane  pops Castro in a scrum and is subbed.

Reinach after fumbling balls, getting dragged into the ruck, kicking a penalty into an opposition player.....finally has try laid on by Carr.....and gets subbed.

Every player left the field against Italy, not on a mistake as is so often the case, but on a piece of individual good play. It's called building confidence. 
You don't see unprepared players starting for the Boks these days. Everybody fits in seemlessly. I saw  a lot of sarcastic drivel on here yesterday about the need to know the systems. But that familiarity is part of the reason for that preparation.

HM is impressing with his professionalism and clear thinking.

 Moz, that is one side of it, but most concerning to me was his use of players at the end of their careers, sitting on the bench.

Draad while (3/13) is enjoying his little joke , let me address your more pertinent point. HM has probably overdone this a bit with Bakkies and Gurthro. But not every gamble is going to come good and Schalk, Victor, F du Preez were very successful. So these picks are successful at a much higher rate than the boy scouts. I'm sure there is also a coaching/ mentoring ( to use a word I despise) role. I have confidence that come the RWC he will have the right blend of age and energy....in the meantime he is compiling a decent record and our rankings have risen.

With akll due respet have you really studied the performances of Matfield and Du Preez since they came back into the squad?
Matfield started off looking good in line outs and has recenty been sub-par in that component of the game.   He moonlights in the backline and behind mauls and make a good number of tackles - but his tackle quality is in the main varying between average and sub-par.   On two occassions on Saturday his presence in the abckline caused a creakdown and stopped to virtually certain tries against Italy.    While he stands around behind mauls the loosies are required to try and recover the ball.  He does nothing in the Tight 5 play, show zero grunt  and his ball carries in traffic is dismal.   So what makes him so very successful?
Fourie du Preez - other than in the Wales game last year was totally invisible in the other games he played in.   So what makes him so very successful?    
His other dismal pick was Morne Steyn - why is eh absent from your list?  

 Moz, Meyer more than likely told the players even before the tour when and how long they were going to play. Very rarely has he ever gone by eye and most definitely didn't take any of the players off for building confidence Eg. Goosen whose gone back to Racing Metro.

You don't think Goosen grew with the experience? He made one lovely break off a superb Jean pass, made a few decent tackles and maintained good field position. He wasn't as convincing under the high ball, missing one kick and balking JP once...but that was not unexpected. I would have thought he gained a bit of confidence.  

 Having watched him for Racing Metro I'd say that was expected as he's being playing well for them.
