It's easy to see why he is such a respected coach, even though you would never guess that reading all the childish bleats we have on this Board. He leaves no doubt that Steyn is a loss:

Heyneke Meyer "respects" Frans Steyn's decision to make himself unavailable for Springbok selection, but admits he is disappointed in having to deal with it the middle of a Test series.

Steyn was released from the Bok squad at his own request on Tuesday and will not feature in any of South Africa's remaining June Tests, as he considers his international playing future.

Although Steyn and the South African Rugby Union have thrown a veil of secrecy over the subject, rugby365 believes money might be at the centre of the World Cup winner's gladiatorial walk-out.

Meyer, who admitted to have been taken by surprise by the players' decision, said he has the utmost respect for Steyn.

"I have always had a great relationship with Frans Steyn, on and off the field," Meyer told a media briefing in Durban on Wednesday - where the team is preparing for the first of two Tests against Wales.

"I was one of the main figures [role players] in bringing him back to South Africa," he said of Steyn's return to the Republic from France in 2012.

"He is an unbelievable rugby player," Meyer said, adding: "I respect him as a rugby player and as a human being.

"Obviously I am disappointed that he is not available, but understand that and I respect his decision.

"I just want to wish him and his family the best of luck for their future - you never know what the future holds."

Meyer said the unforeseen event is obviously "a bit disruptive".

However, as a national coach that is something you have to deal with.

Meyer described it as probably the toughest two weeks since taking over as Bok coach in 2012.

"It has been tough with losing the captain and a lot of [other] changes," he said.

"You don't just lose five quality centres within the space of a week or week-and-a-half, but that is the challenge of the job.

"You plan for five months, you can't wait to get going and suddenly you get curve-balls from all over.

"We'll just get on with it and I believe in the players we have.

"As a [Bok] coach you don't have a lot of time," Meyer said, adding: "So when you have a squad of 30 and 35 you do have other guys training with the squad. You prepare for injuries and you prepare for the long-run as well.

"Jan [Serfontein] know all the moves, he has trained with us and  he has prepared well. He has played with Morné [Steyn], but he hasn't played with JP [Pietersen]. It will be a step-up there and he will have to work on his defence there."

Meyer said they have lost a bit of "continuity" through Steyn's sudden departure.

Being a gentleman or not has nothing to do with our "childish" bleats, you pompous ass!!

Is it really that difficult for you to grasp ... dumbass??

All he needs to do is resign and our bleating will stop.

Either that or select properly for a change and he might even win us over.

No provincialism, no pensioners, no best friends to be brought in.

Merit and form ... that's it. The best South African for the job.

See how easy it is, Faggot?

Have you ever resigned from a job Genecut....er no ....more likely just fired. After all a car salesman has some quotas.

Dave once again you are calling our coach a fool. I remember you doing that with Jake White in 2007. How did that work out for you?

I never rated Jake and you know it and I stand by that. Jake was average with a 67% win record as Bok coach which is simply not good enough. His record going into the WC was so poor that he just managed to escape the chop.

However Jake seems to have learnt from his mistakes and appears to be a better coach these days......there is no way in hell the present day Jake would have selected the pathetic side Meyer has just selected.......Jake sees value in youthful players.

Os, Monty, Danie.....all brought back by Jake. You are wrong, if Jake was coaching the Boks his team would look much like HMs.

It's deliciously ironical that you are now going on about Steenkamp the way you went on about Os being chosen ahead of Steenkamp. And remember your stupid rants about Monty....the guy who won the RWC playing the last half on a buggered knee.

These old guys that still have their wheels are rugby gold....you just cant learn that simple lesson.

There you go again with your delusional day dreams of an aged person having wheels.

I know you would very much like to turn back the clock to when you were younger and capable of walking 10m without the need to stop for a breath, however it's time to face reality you stupid fool and accept the fact that age and wheels are not compatible ... not unless it's the wheels of a wheelchair your referring to.

Gurthro, Bakkies and Victor don't have wheels any longer. Not for quite some time actually.

Only in La La Land, Dumbass!!

Go take you medication and have a little lie down. Try to get some sleep.

Oh and another thing ... comparing the ordinary Steenkamp to the legendry great Os Durandt is stupidity at best.

Try to catch a wake up will ya?

The "legendry"? Gosh I hope you haven't been using that a lot. But to answer your question.....no in 2007 I was all for the legendary Os.

If Jake selected the same side as Meyer, I'd be the first to retract my comment that he had moved on, fact is Jake would not select the same side.

Os was about as effective as Bakkies and Matfield are now - he was average at best and the younger players were better.

Monty did stuff all other than kick for poles, added nothing with ball in hand.

Which Danie - Rossouw, he was a young man then

Moz you need to wake up, my call on Steenkamp to be chopped is based on the fact that he is useless these days, useless because he is past it - geez how obvious is that. Bloody hell the guy was the field for 15min last week and conceded two scrum penalties, duly promoted to the starting 15 this week - which about sums clueless Meyer us. Os was past it at that WC as well.

These players don't have their wheels at all, they are liabilities given the fact the side is already laden with enough experience in JP, Habana, Fans, Beast, Bismark, Jannie, Strauss and Vermeuelen

Oh brother!!! What are you talking about?

What question??

See what I mean, old man?

Must be those pesky voices again, huh?

Maybe it's time for a straitjacket.

Just a clue ... look for the question mark next time. If there isn't any, that usually means that no question was asked.

Ok?

Danie Rossouw was good in 2007 - at present he is the fattest guy I saw in the Heineken Cup final and he declared his departure.  He was 27 in 2007 and that is a fact.
You cannot get past 2007 - whatever happened since then is immaterial.  The great players of 2007 are great still and they did not get older in seven years.   Age does not count with you at all and the fact that age in all players leads to deterioration in poerformances is according to you non-existent.   Players like Matfield, Botha and Steenkamp reached their peak in 2007-09 and thereafter went down rapidly - causing failure by the Springboks in 2010-2011.   Can't you get that into your thick skull?
De Villiers openly admitted it by saying he has to train twice as hard as he did two years ago when he was 29 years of age to maintain the same standard of performance.  Does the present selections of Meyer does the same?  There is no sign of it.  On Satuday - Jannie was a disaster, Botha and Matfield faded out after 15 minutes and provided no support in scrumming, Steenkamp was a joke in bad taste, and Alberts remain the greatest loafer in a Springbk jersey.   No sign of extra training to maintain the required standard as De Villiers said so eloquently.   Please note that Monty was of the same opinion as De Villiers and maintained a top fitness rating throughout his playing career.   He was a backline player - like De Villiers and Habana - not a forward from whom the hard grind is required.
Your idea about rugby is all tied up in what the players delivered as many as 10 years ago - what they do now is not material, they deserve selection because of experience and reputation.   Whenever that system of election was tried by any coach it failed - no team ever won the WV twice in succession.

You are guided by age. I am age agnostic, I am guided by performance. And what I see is Jean is still the best centre in the land, Habana is the best wing and Matfield may well still be the best number 5 lock. When they cease to be, I will call for their replacement.

Once again our resident clown has chosen to disguise the truth. Danie was forced to retire due to  a rare form of arthritis in his hips was diagnosed. It was feared that his rugby was already over at the end of last year but he responded well and was still able to assist his team to win both the HC and the Top14 before finally retiring. That is more than can be said of your hero Brittle  Bones who has parked himself in Japan, hiding away from Bok rugby, to prevent the poor soul from getting injured.

Two issues - you guided by performance is the joke of the year on this site.  Performances when and where -  Morne's failure at Stade Franccais for example?  Your deliberate misinterpretation of performances is legendary.
Now my insult of the Springbok heroes.  They were my heroes when they were at their prime playing rugby.  They overstayed their welcome and is now on the way to disgrace themselves and the Springbok team.  Heroes does not do that - they do not ruin their own reputations that way.
They would still be my heroes if the gracefully retired while at their peak - and that is what real heroes are made of.   Sporting heroes do not do that - they leave with their good memories intact.  Once they overstayed their welcome by pretending that they are still good enough - like all of Botha, Matfield, Steenkamp and Jannie is doing - they damage their hero-status immeasurably.   Morne was never a Springbok hero - he was generally anything but - a player who should never have been a Springbok.

Matey ... clearly you've made a decision to support the looney old fart, no matter what the content of his posts are.

I'm sure you'd agree with him if he called for the return of Naas Botha and Frik Du Preez.

It's a pity cause I've seen some of your posts and they had some insightful views. Had me pondering the direction your seeing things from.

Any chance you could return to that instead of these silly little one liners or is it a matter of sticking your tongue up his bum and keeping it there merely for the sake of it?

No offense meant ... simply curious!!

I don't think anybody takes offence at your comments Genecut....I've heard better humour from 12 year olds.  It's absolutely pathetic when an old fella like you is still using the language of the high school playground. So no you don't raise the heat, you just lower the standards.

Meyer is a gentleman and is doing what he thinks is best for the Boks. I dont believe his motives are dishourable. But gosh is he being so conservative right now.
How good this Bok team is be will soon be found out. No place to hide.

I've been "thatchless" most of my adult life.

I know you think it bothers me ... but it doesn't.

Some have serious confident issues being "thatchless" ... even to the point of growing awful comb-overs.

Not me ... this is how I am and I'm cool with it!!

CC - My comment was in support of Meyer - specifically the character of the man which is of the highest order yet is under constant attack here.
Its obvious I see a lot of things the way Moz does. Don't know the guy personally at all but his posts are reasonable, intelligent, and he maintains a sense of objectivity. I honestly enjoy reading his contributions as well as several others here. The only loyalty I may feel to him is that we are fighting the same battle against a rising tide of lunacy amongst some of the Bok "supporters" on this board.
