What an inept half Hougaard played against the ABs, culminating in the decision to pass blindside vs reversing the flow at the end. Other passes bounced around on the deck...others just weren't crisp.

His box kicks actually weren't that bad insofar as they went....but often the pass was the better option....often there was no credible chase loaded. They tended  to be just kicks feeding the AB machine.

There is no reason Hougaard shouldn't be a fine test scrummie, except what goes on between his ears. He looks like a robot when we need a decision maker.

I agree with you about Hougaard having a terrible game - but then you missed out again.   "His box kicks actually weren't that bad insofar as they went"  -  every box kick was fielded by the AB's and used as a launching pad for atteacks - which was to the abso lute detriment of the Springboks.   The kicks were really bad - the worst aspect of Hougaard's play.
Robot Hougaard is and he is not that popular a selection in any event.   He only has 37% support on the vote poll on the home page - eactly because he is a robot with defects..

You really have to be spoon fed. His kicks were accurate, they were the right length and they had plenty of hang time. What they didn't have was coordination with the chase, timing with defensive gaps  and some element of surprise. In short they were robotic...they fed the AB machine as I said before.
Try to not disagree with me and then repeat my points without adding anything new...old chop.

Oh what utter rubbish, his passing was spot on this bullshit about his passing smacks of plain stupidity given it was there for all to witness

At least we will now have a 9 with balls instead to the timid and passive Pienaar who has been useless for some time.

Sadly Meyer is too useless to give Hougaard the freedom to play his normal game, instead he will instruct him to kick the leather off the ball and wonder why we keep losing.

But no doubt given how poor Meyer's people management skills are, no doubt Hougaard wont even start and Reinach will be given the green light.

Either way thank goodness we don't have to endure useless Pienaar any longer......thank the Pope

Dave
Hougaard made very few passes to backline players during the whole time he was on the field - and at least one of them went haywre - rolling on the ground.   Another pass was equally inaccurate and caused a turnover in possession.  His kicking game was like Mozart said - really fruitless and to the disadvantage of the  Springboks.
The problem with Hougaard is he has NO ball sense.   There was one quick possession turnover that Hougaard just kicked the ball away - when he and the supporting players should have kept the ball in hand and attack.   It happened on the half way line and stupedo kicked the ball into the opposition 22 - easy for Dagg to collect and ran 20 meters with it - since the kick was so stupid - nobody bothers to even try to follow it up.   .
He showed no "balls" during the game and did squad to show that he has them. Throughout Super 15 and CC over the past two seasons Reinach was better than Hougaard - he also showed more "balls".

Exactly. Look at what he says about Morne and Victor.

But Dave...you and OOm are so close on so many issues. This seems a bit churlish on your part....hell  you are huge Lomp  fans and both of you think Lambie is a Bok flyhalf. And that's just a start.

Well Moffie as much as Mike struggles with some of the basics he at least has a general grasp of what constitutes a good player unlike yourself who has to have the worst grasp I have ever seen and I mean that sincerely. ...its one thing to mention Lambie but then be stupid enough to fly the useless Morne flag.....then we move on to useless de Jongh as the answer at 13 - what a joke....but best of all Cilliers as our answer at 3.......bwhaaahaaaaa. .....that is closely followed by Matfield being better than Lood or useless Jean better than class act Jan.
I see the penny has eventually dropped with Coetzee. ....there is hope old man.....you have only 100 players to go

Morne has much more match presence than Lambie.

De Jongh is a better 13 than JJ and has served the Boks better in tests....at least he never lost the RC.

Matfield is better than Lood....by a mile.

Coetzee is serviceable but not one of our great flanks like Schalk or Juan for most of their careers.

Next?

Sure morne has much more presemnce than Lambie in games - his presence is much more certain to lose us matches than Lambie could ever hope to achieve.   The last test against Australia - hopefully the last he wll play for the Springboks - proved that beyond a shadow of doubt.   But that is by far not the first effort of Morne in that regard.   Just cast your mind over the last three years and his match-losing  efforts - not always rewarded - came thick and fast.
De Jongh has served the Springboks better in tests -  are you serious.   The last two tests he played in he went AWOL and showed nothing in both defense and attack.   Over the last two seasons he has been the real defesicve sieve in Super 15.  He was bad last year and worse this year,
Poor Matfield - if h e had the physical presence he would surely be a factor in tests - but at 106 kgs he is not capable to carry balls anymore and he has powder-puff tackles - with a high enough missed tackle ratio.   ANyone thinking he is still a top player is delusinal.
I often enough differ from  Dave on issues.   I think that Hougaard and JJ are not up to standard - while he thinks they are the cats whiskers.   However, there are sound reasons I differ from him - even though he gets insulting when I state those.
Insofar as your views on players are covenred - I do not look at players with blinkers - I do not over-emphasize positives or negatves in players depending on whether I like them or not - and try and stick to facts.   Insofar as performance evaluation is concerned I took note of one incident in matches - but balance that out over a serious of matches to determine trends in players,   I do not believe - like you - that reputation is the  over-riding norm for selection.   I also accept that the older players become the less likely they are to maintain acceptable standards  of performance. The latter does not mean that I say age is necessarily a factor in selection - but that performance is the more determining factor.
Your idolizing of older players - and constnt referring to what they have achieved in the past - is meaningless when it comes to present performances.    That in essence why I think that too many of the present Springboks are not producing enough to ensure  winning of  matches they should win with ease.   and lose matches they should never have lost.

I'm afraid his box kicks were aimless and at times too deep ... an easy unchallenged take in the 22.

He was clueless and fearful. Kicked possession away at every opportunity and then you have those two bounce passes of his ... man alive ... professional, I think not ... at times he stops the momentum of the attacking player in his tracks with a pass that's behind him and too damn high.

In other words he can't pass and he has no idea what tactical kicking is about.

WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING IN THE BOK SQUAD, MEYER??????????????

FFS ... WAKE UP!!

Bwhaaaaahaaaa Moffie good one......Morne has more test presence than Lambie.......what a load of sh1t.......Morne is bloody useless and does not have a talented bone in his body.

de Jongh better than JJ.....well that is just bloody insulting. de Jongh was absolutely useless at test level......a complete and utter passenger against England.

As for JJ losing a RC that is just a pack of bloody lies.....that is a strength of yours.

Matfield is not fit to tie Loods boot laces........Matfield was good some 10 years ago........he is now a washed up liability. Lood is twice the player.

Coetzee is better than Schalk has ever been.........all Schalk used to do in his day is aim for traffic with little effect......much the same as Jacques Potgieter used to do. If anything both have learnt some variety now.......but its far too late for Schalk

Moffie you keep convincing yourself that these old timers or never beens are the answer, much like Meyer is doing and we will continue to lose.......just like we will our next two

You just don't have a bloody clue......so conservative and out of touch with reality that it begs belief......but don't worry we will have the results to confirm all this.......watch this space old man.......Morne better than Lambie, de Jongh better than JJ, Matfield better than Lood.........yeah right.......bwhaaahaaaaa

De Jong has never lost an RC because he's never played in the competition...

Actually he has played in the competition. De Jongh is a natural 13, JJ is a retreaded wing who lost the RC with not one but five crucial mistakes:
1 overrunning a pass on a set move 10 metres from the AB line
2 missing Savea up the left wing leading to the first AB try
3 isolating himself and losing the ball just before the half
4 missing Nonu  in the subsequent move that led to an AB try
5 missing Barrett who ran slap bang right into him ....and ....er ....over him

Moffie those are all lies

He never over ran a pass Morne passed behind him after JJ ran a great line - FACT

Missing Savea is another pathetic lie........and nor did Savea do anything that lead to a try, much play took place before any try was scored - another lie

Only reason he got isolated was because he beat Cruden beautifully after receiving the ball from Morne and Jean who obviously wanted to attack for had they not, Morne would have kicked it out - FACT

Missing Nonu is another load of crap, Nonu stepped him and hauled him in as per above plenty happened after that before any try was scored - another bloody lie

Barrett try has been done to death......the leading culprits were Jean with a pathetic rush and Morne the inside defender going pathetically high, JJ was covering and had to adjust.....so another lie

Old man, stop lying......it carries no weight and shows you up for the lengths you go to, to try make a point - its pathetic

de Jongh is an insult of a centre......for the simple reason you don't get 88kg players playing centre.......not even at provincial level
