Japan-based Fourie du Preez has made himself available for selection for the Springbok for the three-Test series against England in June. The World Cup-winning scrumhalf also has the blessing of his Suntory coach Eddie Jones, who said the club would not stand in Du Preez’s way should he be selected by Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. Du Preez, however, hinted at playing a mentoring role as apposed to a starting captaincy role. “I will always be available to play for the Springboks, but I’m well aware that we have a wealth of talented scrumhalves in South Africa, particularly someone like Francois Hougaard, whose time has now come to establish himself as the No 1 scrumhalf. "It’s time for the next generation to step up, but I’d be happy to help if the coach calls on me,” Du Preez said in a statement.
