The following is an extract from a news 24 report:-

"15 Damian Willemse, 14 Cheslin Kolbe (or S’bu Nkosi), 13 Jesse Kriel, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Aphiwe Dyantyi, 10 Handre Pollard, 9 Louis Schreuder, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6 Siya Kolisi (capt), 5 Franco Mostert (or Lood de Jager), 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Malcolm Marx, 1 Steven Kitshoff"

I think that Cheslyn Kolbe is a great liitle guy.  However, he is not big enough to compete against the bigger England wings and players - I would definitely prefer Nkosi.

I do not think that Mostert is not physical enough for Tight 5 play in NH conditions and would say that the likely no 5 will be De Jager.    We may even see Schickerling on the bench.   I do not see that Erasmus would select him without giving him playing time on the tour.

Louis Schreuder  is an interesting pick.   I wrote a while back that he may become involved in Erasmus's plans.   There was a rumour that Reinach may be in line for selection - but I think Schreuder captaining the Sharks side to victory yesterday must have been a last-minute choice ahead of Reinach.

The other choices can be regarded as automatic choices anyway.

Nkosi for Kolbe anyday. Same with Lood ahead of Mostert. Willie is in the squad so thankfully will start at 15

Dave

Le Roux cannot start on Saturday - the game falls outside of the test window period when clubs must release players for international duty.

It is pathetic that some of the players like Willie Leroux and Faff are not available  due to pub club rugby.

I wonder if all the England players will be available.

Dave

They must be made available by the clubs for the other three November tests that will fall in the test window - so the club players involved are in the squad.

The one I differ from virtually everyone especially from Mozart and his deluded mates is the selection of Louw ahead of Coetzee.   I think it is a mistake - Louw is useless at best.

Rassie should also have picked Duhan van der Merwe to have a look at him on test level.

It’s sinful that the du Preez twins are not in the squad. There are very few players in the game that are able to bust through the first defender through sheer power, Bismark was one, Marx is one as are the du Preez twins. The more of these players you have in the side the stronger your side is going to be. Rassie needs to wake up to this fact very quickly. Investing in powder puffs like Whitely and Mostert or never beens like Louw is both a waste of time and counter productive. Ah Moz would this be the final you never saw and are now passing comment on Thomas being beaten by Vermark? What a load of shit, Coenie made little difference when he came on, hardly surprising the Sharks see their arse at scrum time when you have a pathetic excuse of a lock in Andrews packing behind the front row. I thought Albert vd Bergh was the saddest excuse of a lock I had ever seen (no doubt Moz will have rated him!!) but string bean Andrews trumps him

Thomas has been owned by every decent loosehead he has faced.....as for the stone aged Deysel twins that you have been hyping for years Dave, nobody succeeds in international rugby because of sheer power.

We've gone the route of bashing before. It doesn't work quite as planned. If we filled the team with as many bathers as possible we'd inevitably become too linear and predictable. Tighter, congested defences will happily stall our phase play. There has to be concessions made to balance our game. Whiteley and Mostert have held the own physically, and delivered immense work rate. Dynamism is one of the strengths of our pack. Without that we'd be in a lot of trouble.

AO

There always is a total mess in what you post. I tried to get a discussion going on the issue of starting rolling mauls, the running of it and defense against opposition rolling mauls - but it went straight over your head and Mozart also came up with real nonsense.

You talk about bashing and not anything else.   So lets get back to the rolling mauls issue.    The fact is a previous strong attacking and defensive weapon of the Springboks - rolling mauls - started to vanish from the scene in 2014 when Meyer brought back Matfield.   Meyer realized he problem nd that was why Alberts was the 7 and Vermeulen the 8.   However the idea failed because Alberts was hopeless in breakdown ball possession and recovery - his ball skills poor and so slow that players ran a round him at will.

The problem with driving mauls is that the ball must go to the middle of the line-out or further back to ensure the forming and co-ordination of mauls.   Years of experience helped Matfield in starting of mauls - but iro co-ordination he was just pushed out of the mauls ending on his backsid3 outside of the mauls.   he was physically to weak to do the co-ordination part.

Now on to 2018.   This year there were a few successful mauls - but only when Du Toit was in the picture.  Mostert on test level is incapable of starting and co-ordinatig a maul.    We need to correct that and the only way is to strengthen the lock situation.

Playing of both Mostert and Whiteley together is patently impossible to succeed.    From a forward perspective it is either one or the other - not both.   Mostert ios the weak physical link in the Tight 5 - like Matfield he turned the Tight 5 into a Tight 4.

The first objective should be to physically strengthen the Tight 5 and then to look at what the best option at no 8 is concerned.   As indicated I am very worried about Vermeulen - it looks more and more that since March he only played in three tests and maybe some games for Spear Kubota.   One newspaper named him as returning from injury.   He may just play one or two games making a good impression and the gas might run out again.

I hope he succeeds and dispel the problems evident this year, playing for the Bulls next year - but I have doubts as to whether that will be happening.   We will have to wait and see,   Louw is a total disaster as well.  He was useless in most tests this year.

So who should be our number 8?   There are Louw (the hopeless), Vermeulen (???????????????), and then potentially Coetzee or Du Preez.

So where to now - especially since the matter should be dealt with within the next nine months.

Looks like our back three are way to experience to field players with test experience. I would even go as going for first class experience.

But I think that Aplon might be the dark horse for this fixture. Not to mention that he is already 36 and we haven't seen anything in the news about him for the last couple of years.

It could be

15 Aplon

14 Kolbe

11 Dyanti

But also agree with @saffex, that we are missing the Du Perez twins.

Sicko Nachos was completely manhandled by the Du Preez brothers. Nachos was so ineffective in his ball cary on Saturday that he managed to get a consolidation penalty for his bravery of not being able to dominate the collision
