There must be a way this clueless clown can be removed before next year's WC?

I have never felt so despondent about our rugby before and at a time I believe we have more young talent at our disposal than ever.

We should be number 1 in the world right now not scraping past Wales and Argentina.

We need a progressive man in charge who invests in the best talent we have. We need a coach to make us proud again not a twat that has me swearing at his every move.

Get rid of the insult of a coach and do it now. I am sick of seeing the class of 2007 still plying their trade in the name of our beloved boks.....its sad

Na, Saf to be fair... i dont have a problem with Meyer.
From where we started when PDivvy ducked to where we are now, I think we have progressed.

Every coach has his favorites (Jake White and John Smit, Kitch Christie and Francois Pienaar, Nick Mallet and Bob Skinstad, Rudolph Streuli and his right hand, du Plessis and Monty at 12 (or was is 13)).

Whilst I don't agree with Meyers selection criteria, I prefer leaving it up the to the coach to decide.

Think of it like this...
If you were coach and you selected JJ, you'd also come under fire mate.

Being a coach is a thankless task unless you win 100% of your games.
And Meyer aint doing too badly, only really losing out to the AB's.
I can't say that i agree with much that he does, but hey... he got the job... not me.

I say we wait until the 2015 RWC and then decide.

I've been caught coach slaughtering on many occasions only to find myself eating humble pie!

Disagree Meyer has been pathetic in that he has achieved nothing of note......we have just managed to scrape past sides like Wales, France, Scotland, Ireland and Argentina and most worrying is that he did that when his side was looking ok on paper.

In the last few months this idiot has decided to recall as many 30 plus year olds as possible and in the process regressing the Boks at a rapid rate.

He is clearly a backwards thinking coach who is out of touch with who constitutes his best players and how the modern game is played. His record to date looks ok, it wont do after the RC.

As for JJ, damn right I would select him given how good he was with ball in hand against the AB's......only an idiot would discard the player after such a game. Investment in him would have brought out the positive in him. His replacements have been less than emphatic in fact that have been a lot worse than him so I would be totally justified in retaining him post that AB test.

If he failed to produce thereafter, I'd drop him.

I can handle the odd suspect selection by a coach but Meyer has taken it to another level and will be exposed for it shortly

No point in slagging off the current coach without suggesting a replacement. So who do you replace him with Dave? We know that chances are slim to none that an international coach will take on the SA political climate, or that SARU would entertain the idea. So where do we look?

Leave Meyer till after the RWC and then decide. We really should have beaten the abs a number of times by now under Meyer.
We have excellent coaches in Mallet, Jake, Venter and Rassie. Gert Smal has good credentials.
I have been impressed by Ackemann and his Lions staff as well.

I am not in favour of replacing Meyer and said that on a number of occassions in the past.   However, I intensely dislike his selections - which, as he said so himself - is too often based on players he is "familiar" with without regard to present performances.
That accounts for the selection of players like Steenkamp, Bakkies Both and even Matfield.   People wroiote about the fact that Juan Smith was invisible on Saturday - and he was - so he is out of the squad after that dismal performance.   But Bakkies Botha was similarly poor in all tests he played in - yet he is still in the squad.   Morne Steyn is not even the sstarting flyhalf for his Club - but he is good enough to be our flyhalf.
What deoes his cklub officials know that Meyer does not know?
Meyer has made some very good selectiions - but he is also making some very bad ones and in a way Dave is right - he is weakening the side by selection non-performers.
Many people for instance has noticed that Matfield is good in line outs - but grossly ineffective in Tight 5 play - yet Meyer is insisting that Matfield is the guy to play at 5.   Will he recognize the deficiencies in the forthcoming tests insofar as Matfield is concerned - I doubt it very much.

Our lineout against the Argies was fine. We lost one throw in and stole two. Both these locks are excellent lineout jumpers.
Why in the world should we be worried about our lineout? Why imagine we need matfiled. Its crazy.
My problem with this crumming fiasco when Guthro, Bissie and Jannie were on is how legal was the Argies scrumming. The other factor why was our scumming so much better with Beast, Strauss and Malherbe. Is Guthro that bad? Is Jannie that bad or tired or as Smit said suffered from the Argies scrumming in on an angle. It's a confused picture.
BUT the fact is it all stopped when Beast, Strauss and Malherbe came on. What a transformation happened after the final Argies try and also the subs coming on.
If you had not seen the first 60 minutes and only watch the final 20 minutes you would have thought the B oks could win by 50.

I'd have anyone ahead of Meyer......if it had to be a local boy I'd go with Mallett, Brendan Venter, Rassie or Jake. Mallett would be my first choice.

But I'd definitely want a Kiwi or Ozzie for the job......I'd target the Tahs coach.

Coach must be english speaking..Afrikaaners wana create a "family" and not play the best guys. Look at how the Bulls carry baggage every year. Hell man they wanted to bring back Derick Hougaard and god knows who else. How Stegmann and Potgieter play for the Bulls when they have all those other young flanks including Arno Botha when fit (who actually knows when Arno is back?) Seems the boere are not forward thinkers and wana be loyal to their old boys club.
Having said that though and I mean this honestly Dave, who in your opinion is Meyer missing? If you could choose a 28 man squad to invest in the RC, who would be there for you?Meyer is bringing through some youth ie. Pollard, De Allende, Serfontein, Hendricks, Lood.

A squad of 28 is too small to initially select, you would want at least 50 to work with and then you would reduce it to 28 for the WC closer to the time.

Injuries aside, the 50 I would select would be:

Fullbacks: Willie (11/14) / Taute (13) / Jessie Kriel (13) / SP Marais

Wings: Habana / JP (13) / Senatla / Sithole (13) / K. v/Wyk (13) / Kolbe

Centres: JJ (11/14) / de Allende / Serfontein / Frans Steyn (10) / Esterhuizen / Hanekom

Flyhalves: Goosen / Lambie (15) / Pollard (12)

Scrumhalves: Hougaard / Reinach / Faf de Klerk / v/Zyl

Props: Coenie / Beast / T. du Toit / Marcel v/d Merwe / Malherbe / Kitshoff / Nkanyane / Frik Kirsten

Hookers: Bismark / Strauss / Chiliboy

Locks: Etzebeth / PSDT (7) / Willemse / Lood / Lewies / J. du Plessis (7)

Loosies: Brussouw / Vermeulen / Kolisi / Carr / Coetzee / Arno Botha / CJ Stander / Elstadt / v/d Walt / Labascagne

So Meyer is missing many and including far too much deadwood. If he cant find a winning 28 from this lot, no-one can. And this list is certainly not closed.......there are a good few players making waves like Burger Odendaal at 12 for the Bulls or Sarel v/d Merwe at 1 for the Lions who is a scrumming king.

Ok but for this championship..Like if you were made Bok coach 3 weeks ago..What is the 28 you would have taken with no notice..You are employed and 5 days later you are playing the Argies... I know its all hypothetical and from your 50, guys would obviously fall out but right now, who would be in your 28 considering our injuries too.

My 28 right now would be the following assuming Coenie is injured as he is not playing for the Cheetahs, that Frans, Goosen, Brussouw, JP and v/d Walt are not available, plus Malherbe, Arno Botha :

15. Willie / Taute (13)

14/11. Habana / Sithole (13) / Sinatla

13/12. JJ / de Allende / Serfontein

10. Pollard (12) / Lambie (15)

9. Hougaard / Reinach

1/3. M. v/d Merwe / T du Toit / Jannie / Beast / Nkanyane

2. Bismark (c)  / Strauss

4/5. Etzebeth / Lood / Willemse / J. du Plessis (7)

6/7/8. Vermeulen / Coetzee / Kolisi / Elstatdt / Carr

A squad of 50.... Why not 75 or 100? Hell lets just cancel the Curry Cup and the SuperXV and have a squad of 150.
A squad of 32 is a good starting point as it gives two full teams for practice.

Moz I don't bleat.....there is a reason I keep shouting that we have more great young talent at our disposal than ever and for that reason believe we have better players than NZ and with the right coach and team we should be number 1 in the rankings.
So who should Meyer have on board or actually start instead of carrying bags that would make a difference against NZ and who are potentially better than their kiwi counterparts.
At fullback we have willie an equal match for Ben smith.
On the wing they have savea who is tops with only an in form jp able to challenge. So my first call is jp on the wing and not at centre.
Corey Jane on the other wing is average at best. Is hendricks our best option  outside of habana and jp? No he is not, he is good but kolbe, kobus v/wyk, rhule, sinatla and sithole are all better and would make a difference.
At 13 the kiwi s have smith and fikito. In the last test between SA and NZ, JJ out played smith by some distance, so without doubt he would make a difference.
At 12 the kiwi s have nonu and crotty. Nonu is on a par with Jean both past it. Serfontein  is on tour but not being used. He is better than Jean, nonu and crotty.
At 10 the kiwis have Cruden and barritt,  we have pollard on a par and useless Morne. Lambie and Goosen are on par if not better than the kiwi pair and would be a vast improvement on useless Morne.
At 9 the kiwis have smith we have useless pienaar. Hougaard, reinach, De klerk and v/zyl are all as good as smith and therefore any one of them would be better than passive Pienaar.
That's just the backs I think you get the picture.
Meyer has coc ked up his selections in a big way selling us short in every way with pathetic selections like fourie, morne, pienaar, steenkamp, jannie, bakkies, matfield, louw, schalk, Smith and alberts

S affex, you are underestimating the New Zealand back-line players. It is not just how good they are as individual players as runners or defenders, but their ability to combine as an attacking unit.
A player like Conrad Smith might not be the best defender or the best running player with ball in hand, but he is a very creative player that can direct attacking play. He can create space from nothing, and when he gets the ball tries are scored.
We have strong runners in the backline, but other than Willie LeRoux, our players lack the passing skills and playing making ability of their New Zealand counterparts. Habana is still the best wing in the world- if he gets the ball.......Fourie Dupreez may still be the best scrumhalf and his option taking is much better than anything else available in South Africa.
Some of the backline tries scored by the Highlander backline players this year, and the All Blacks backline players each year looke like they are done with ease. Too many of our backline players just run straight like forwards, unlike Willie Leroux who is not allways just trying to gain metres. Many of these new young backline players are just the latest of the conveyer belt and when they to a higher level they are no different from the previous batch of players they replace. This is why SA sits behind New Zealand each year, and in the SuperXV our forwards must be relied ont to score most of the tries. The backs usually score from turnovers, errors by the opposition or play that has gone through so many phases their is no defenders left. Rarely from well structured moves.
It is a weakness of SA backline play. This is seen in the SuperXV each year. It is not reasonable to just put the blame on the coaches. It is a chicken and egg situation as some of the coaches do not want to go wide because of a higher percentage of turn overs conceded or loose passes than the New Zealand teams. It is calling a spade a spade. Many backine players can throw long passes when running at full speed.
Comparing Lambie to Cruden is a joke. Aaron Smith is a world class scrum half, and only Fourie Dupreez is a comparable option from the available scrum half's in South Africa.

Sharkbok
There is a lot of truth you said - but there is one essential llement which you left out completely.  A major proportion of the All Blacks attacking play center around their kicking game.   There kicks are always pin point and puts the defending team under massive pressure.   We talkk abnout their kicking game and it is often pointed out that they kcik mre than we do - but there is one hige difference.
There kicking game is accurate and is used as an attacking weapon - our kicking is P!ss poor.  Morne Steyn cannot kcik an accurate kcick to be followed up effectively if you pay him and Ruan Pienaar the same.   Fourie is a better - but still only about 30% as accurate as the AB's game is.    That meams we are at a huge disadvantage before we start the game.
The second problem is that we have a differenct selection criteria for backline players.  Ball skills means nothing - size is everything.   The skill set of our backline players is virtually near to zero.   GFor that reason they are coached to rubn straight at the fiorst defenders in the vague hope that they would beat that defender.  Becasue they are so utterly predictable - there is no chance of creating space for other players to operate in.
Our weakest positions are in fact at 10 and 12>  Morne is the most opredictable fkyhalf in workd  rugby and easily read by opponents.   Since he never attacks the gain line himself - the defneders ifnore him  completely and go for the 12 - while two wings fall back to vober his aimless kicks.   Turnobvers conceeded.
Although not essentially a crashballer - De Villiers can be different - but his coaching forces him to play a similar game.  He is the best 12 we got by some distance.   The idiea to run lines aimed at the gap between the opposition 12 and 13 is coached out of our players.   Mozart raved about De Villiers doing  it onnce anmd making a pin point pass - but why does not not happen more oftne?   Fe Allende has a better sjill-set - he proved it in Super 15, but why is he not really effective?   The answer is - he amde a number of breaks and carry the balls well - but there is no support to back him up.  There was one such case on Saturday - but Pienaar followed up and fouled up the move.
Basially the problems are -
*   that players with deficient skills sets are selected in the dfirst instance; and*   that back line atatcking play is coached badly and is consequently destructive.
If you read contributions on this site - you would find it is all about size - with zero emphasis on skills.   IFor some players t is not about keeping the ball in hand - it is all about aimless kicking representing in the main handover in possession.  The reason is deficient reading of the game and what I call donkey play.
Lets face facts -  players like Morne Steyn and Francois Steyn would not make any  of the teams of the New Zealand franchises.   Their skills ets are too deficienmt.  De Villiers will and priobably also Serfontein and De Allende, but the key players are just too poor - and we find them in our Springbok bacxkline.   That is why our backline play is so seriously-deficient.

What makes the AB's what they are is not that they have some unique ability from 1 to 22. They are human, just like the Boks. In most positions we have bigger and faster players. None of NZL back three are faster than Willie, Hendricks or Habana. What make them better than the rest of the world is their ability to attack space, offload and not break down with the ball. Just watch them play and then watch SA play. All of our carriers wana take the man on and bash him and take the ball to ground. NZL are looking at space between defenders and their players supporting the ball carrier are working harder than the guy with the ball.
Steven Luatua was dropped from the AB's as he was lazy off the ball. Every one of SA's forwards is worse than Luatua in that dept. marcel Coetzee and a fit Schalk Burger are our busiest forwards and they make the most offloads too.
We can all sum it up until we blue in the face. The AB's are not better individually. They are the same. They just understand the art of attacking space and creating space through keeping the ball alive. Not dying with it like the rest of us!

Yes Moz and he completely outplayed Smith something the Kiwi posters on this sie acknowledged........not only did he beat 3 defenders beautifully that game, one of those defenders happened to be Smith - FACT

We all know that the 21 point swing as a result of JJ is a pack of lies.......biggest load of shit I have read in ages.

JJ was fine for the Bulls this S15 given the fact the Bulls played a 10 man game......not a single 13 in SA did anything better than JJ all S15.

If JJ's performance against the AB is a measure of failure then you clearly know stuff all about the game. Name a better performance by a Bok 13 in the last 5 years than JJ's performance with ball in hand in his last test

If we want to consistently be the best there is a lot that comes before player selection:
Too many provinces and not enough money. Bad provincial structures where the tail wags the dog.
Overseas exodus of players on unprecented level. HUGE issue with no obvious answer beyond limiting to some degree the damage.
No central contracting system. Consider how the great Bissie is a shadow of himself. Consider also the much higehr level of injuries we suffer that either Oz or NZ.
Quotas and non merit selection. Ricardo Loubscher as Bok Backline coach. Can never pick strongest squad or coaching staff. Allistair Coetzee etc.
Sidelining of our best coaches. Rassie, Mallet, Jake (fired after winning Wc and ou pdv appointed in baltant quoya move which set us back years) and Venter. Instead we have Ludeke and Coetzee. Refusal to bring in overseas coaches. Look what happened to our backline when Eddie Jones was brought in by Jake due to zero contribution by quota coach Coetzee.
Refusal to smarten up the way we play the game. We dont even have to invent anything new just add some things by copying others. Our skills level are way behind Oz and Nz in the backs particularly. We rely on forwards to score tries and moments of indivual brilliance.Surely you dont have to be aa rocket scientist to realise one needs to offload rather than going to ground all the time, running good lines, smart passes, backing up etc.
We have half bakes running the game in SA. It's that simply. Dr Moz thinks the failure, in his words, of JJ and Jan, show the players are no good. Not at all. If the had played for the Cheetahs for example a- different story. How would they have developed if playing in OZ or NZ?
Great post there Boklogic re space etc.

Yep I am fully aware of why the AB's consistently kick our butts these days. They certainly do not have better players than we do. What they do have is consistency in selection where the best players are selected to represent the AB's and with this, they employ coaches that are in tune with the modern way the game is played.

Its that simple.....you choose an experienced core and you supplement that core with the best of your youngsters and you with the outlook of dominating the physical battles and beating the opposition by attacking space created by players empowered to express themselves.

Its only something we SA supporters can dream of......so simple but beyond our grasp given the ignorant conservative twits we keep seeing in charge of our beloved Boks
