Dangerous.

Shoulder to the face.

Upright.

No wrap.

Not passive.

Tell me what the mitigation is here?

Not only was it not a straight red, but the review kept it at a yellow card?

He actually knocked the guy out.

Refereeing is the worst part of rugby and second worst part is the inconsistency of incident reviews after the game.

And yet I take you back to the Venter incident on Fassi a few months back. Nowhere near as dangerous, Fassi was coming down from a high take and it was obviously a much harder hit to time...and Venter was trying to wrap. Venter was banned for 4 weeks

My guess is that the hit in this game will be called a "rugby incident".

Many refs would have given a red. If it’s a South African tackler most refs would have given a red. But I still think the red on Cane in the WC was the most stunning, given what was at stake and the the fact that it was literally an instant reflex

I hate reds, permanent and 20 Minutes...too much of an influence on the matches for something that's accidental most of the time ...stupid that this is still an issue...should have been fixed years ago.

Edit...refs to reds, Freudian slip.

Best remedy for a twitch Moolaa is a nice Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir Te Wahi

Agree Draad these decisions are so random and ruin matches. Best to get the offender off the park, allow a substitute after 10minutes and review the tapes after the match.

And bomb the bunker!

I’ll give that Pinot a crack Moz provided it’s not horrendously expensive!

SBW sending off against the Lions is one of my most off pissing calls ever. Ruined a Lions tour. He had a knee on the ground at the time the guy fell onto his shoulder and it happened so quickly that SBW had zero time to react.

May as well get the other half of you also twitching, Moola ;)

Cloudy Bay Te Wahi Central Otago Pinot Noir typically retails between NZD $125 and $168 per 750ml bottle in New Zealand. The 2022 vintage is commonly priced around $130–$135, while the 2019 vintage is listed up to $167.99. It is known as a premium Central Otago offering from the Marlborough-based winery.

At least a 20 minute red. Not sure Venter should have returned either. He looked sparked out.

While I hate it when a red is the determining factor in the way a match plays out I do think we need to protect players.

About a month ago my son was shown a yellow card but it should have been red. There was a line break by our side and our centre got himself isolated near the oppo line with two jackals in position. my sons' come steaming in from 10M at full pelt, launched into the ruck like a missile and absolutely destroyed them. He's done so because he's realised that they're about to turn the ball over.

Unfortunately one of the jackals had suddenly morphed into a meerkat and lifted his head. Claret everywhere and two kids unconscious on a dead ruck. He was one of those two kids.

While he never meant to clatter heads with the other chap, its happened. Its happened because he's not realised that its a lost cause, he's angry that he is the only support, he's pissed because he had to hit the last 2 rucks while some of the other forwards waited to carry, he's fatigued.

Now he's concussed and missed the cup run. Luckily the ref showed mercy looking down at his crumpled body and didn't show him a red. Probably realised he wasn't going to take any further part in the game judging by his fencing posture and snoring.

That’s cruel Plum! Now you’ve got me thinking about the penalty that wasn’t given to the ABs in the 3rd Lions Test at Eden Park 2017 in the last minute!

30m out and right in front of…..

It's not a straight red because there is no consistency. If Cane's was a straight red, this should have been too. As Moz says, this is worse because it's not a reflex, he is lining him up. I had doubts about it during the game because from one angle it looked like Venter got his arm in a fend between his face and the tackler's, but on a better quality replay afterwards I saw this was not the case.

Lack of consistency in the moment is kind of excusable, if not entirely. And that's mainly because there is time pressure.

But the fact that there isn't any post match review of this incident at all, considering the bans that Venter and Wessels faced, that speaks to intentional overlooking of incidents for whatever reason. It's actually inexcusable.

The guy literally drops his shoulder and KOs AHV?
