These youngsters are twice the players the old farts are. There is zip about youngsters playing versus the useless old men who struggle to keep pace. Has Meyer learnt anything - NO

Lood was awesome, making the selecting of Bakkies a complete joke.

Coetzee was far better than Louw as he adds a ball in hand dimension.

Pollard versus Morne is the biggest telling factor......how many more times do we need it confirmed that Morne is a useless test pivot and winning rugby is about playing a pivot that asks questions with ball in hand.

Serfontein was once again outstanding

Most telling - did Matfield play?

Case closed, the youngsters are twice the players the old farts are

Yep - ditch Kirchner, Fourie, Morne, Pienaar, Steenkamp, Bakkies, Matfield, Burger, Louw and Alberts and all will be well.

I can live with old men like Habana, Jean, du Preez and Jannie

Pollard was very good, but against New Zealand? I have my doubts. You make the age old mistake of overshooting the mark. If the youngsters are twice as good as the seniors then it will show i n the stats. I would say it's the careful balance between the two by Meyer that is making it easier for the youngsters to survive. No experience and continuity leaves with 2000-2003.

Well given how bloody useless Morne is, Pollard at 50% would be perfect against NZ

Morné was probably our best player the last tie the two sides met. He dominated in 2009 and particularly in 2011. Morné has a good track record of performing well against New Zealand, so far no other eligible 10 does. Certainly, your little idols Goosen and Lambie failed spectacularly, as did Jantjies. You sure know how to call them!

To much reputation and no performance laves with 2010 and 2011.
Morne never was any good against New Zealand - was a major contributor to losing against them in three tests in 2012 and 2013.   The Dunedin test in 2012 and both the Eden Park and Ellis Ellis Park tests last year.
Pollard - even of he tries hard - could not possible be as bad as Morne Steyn was in those three tests.

"was a major contributor to losing against them in three tests in 2012 and 2013."

You lie still. I already posted a vid of Morné in the 2013 test and posted footage PROVING that the 2012 test was chiefly lost through Goosen. You have no integrity whatsoever Michael. Foolishness is referencing a test where Morné made TWO try saving tackles and covered for misses by Eben, Jannie, Duane and Jean. Had Morné not been so good the Boks would have conceded another 4-5 tries! But hey it's Morné so lets bash him no matter what happened. And you had the gall to label Goosen the best defender in South Africa. That says it all really.

" ....winning rugby is about playing a pivot that asks questions with ball in hand."

So, I take it Pollard does not satisfy this requirement, as Serfontein was first receiver on most of the attacking plays.

Just a few questions about Morne in the three tests mentioned:-
*   Who missed 5 kicks at goal in the Dunedin test in 2012 and whose "strategic kicking" was so poor that the commentators called it bullshit - and that over the air?
*   Who missed to find touch with penalty kicks twice at Eden Park - handing over possession to the AB's and resulting in both cases in AB tries?
*   Who missed 5 tackles during the Ellis Park test - two of which resulted in AB tries?
I am looking forward to the answers to the above questions with great anticipation - I need something to laugh about today.

Incidentally even Meyer gave up on Morne after the Dunedin test - so that may complicate your explanation.

Morne has had a respectable international career and those trashing him are going too far.
The fact though is in Pollard one has what looks to be a really great flyhalf. The whole sissue really is whther he is ready for top flight international rugby. Is he as an under 20 hard enough physically. We shall see. Pollard will on the form shown be a better flyhalf than Morne.
Snapster dont get carried away oak. I would hang on to Burger. He got the second highest points of any bok forard in the Sports 24 rating. As the game goes on he simply gets better and better. Posseses amazing stamina. He must start in the RC. At 31 and well rested he is looking more and more the part.
JW () could you perhaps add something sensible? Big ask I know!

The straw you are looking for Dave was  discernable in the second Welsh test....when a the chips were down. A combination of Victor, Morne and Willie (who you never really rated) dug us out of a deep hole. What happened on Saturday was light entertainment.

For your information, Mozart, the English do wash frequently and you would do well to desist from making racist statements particularly when you like to pull anyone and everyone up on making perceived racist statements of their own. I see you now refer to us as English especially for the insult. Strange given you usually like to call us Poms, do you not ?
Just a point about the Rugby. The commentators made many points re Pollard and his abilities. They said he had shown more attacking flair/capabilities in the first twenty mins or so than we normally see from Morne Steyn in a whole match. They also spoke highly of Serfontein and I don't recall seeing many missed tackles there. Did he slip off one ?
Yes, Scotland were dismal, but at least your younger players showed some attack and a desire to play the game. It isn't always possible against a decent side, we all know that, but some encouraging signs, surely ?

 Now lets get this straight
Who landed us in the hole in the first instance in that 2nd Welsh test?  Morne who kicked balls away aimlessly and even made two  kicks directly into toudh?  Matfield who gave away an easily converted penalty?
I can understand Willie coming to the rescue - but what role did Matfield play in the process?   And what did Morne do to be mentioned a a saver of the situation?
In your terminology Matfield made in your words "process tackles" and did well in line outs - but as he did zerio in teh tight phases of play his effect on the game outcome was minimal.  The only effect Morne had was to kick conversions - he had no role in any of the tries scored.
Sweeping statements again without any substance at all.   Mozart it is easy to bandy names about - but then there need to eb some grounds for that.

Um Moz don't make it up - I rated Willie at the same time everyone else did......he was in the wilderness at Griquas before he joined the Cheetahs - so trying to infer I never rated him is simply rubbish.

As for Victor and Morne digging us out - how did you work that one out - what exactly did they do?

What that second Welsh test confirmed, is just how poor that old fart side is and they can thank their lucky stars they were not playing England, Oz or NZ that day.

But the Oz and NZ pain is only just around the corner

I have asked you this before, do you think Meyer's geriatric side will beat Oz and NZ?

May 12, 2014, 19:30:40 Yep, Willie lacks sheer pace......he is no quicker than Taute who's pace is more than good enough for 15

Now there you have a classic case...Willie is no faster than Taute, who is no faster than Coenie.

No you didn't....nor did you rate Pollard much a few weeks back. This is the backline you have been pushing in the last two years:

Taute, Rhule, JJ, Serfontein, Mvovo, Goosen.....Hougaard.

Flop, Flop, Flop, Commodity, Inconsistrent, Fragile, Flop.

Now lets get this straight.  Willie has enough pace to suit his game - that being an instinctive and creating game.  He is the one player in the present backline who is creative - the rest (tother than Habana)  are mostly not up to that standard.
Pollard is cretive and he has shown it on Saturday with the try scored by Willie - really something that never happened with Morne Steyn.
The other player with a lot of creativity is De Allende - who is very good in passing off-loading and creating space for other players.
I would love to see a backline comprising of the following players:-
16 Le Roux, 14 Mvovo, 13 De Allende, 12 De Villiers, 11 Habana, 10 Pollard, 9 Reinach
I would prefer Pietersen on the wing - but he is unlikely to play in the RC.   Neither is De Preez readily available for that competition.   He only played in two games as a starter and came of the bench in one game in 2013.
Be it as it may - the above backline would be a handful for any of the other teams in the RC.
The players not to be selected are Hougaard, Morne Steyn and Jacque Fourie.  Between those three they will kill any attacking backline play.
To get the backline to function - I would like to see the following players in the forward pack:-
8  Vermeullen,  7 Burger.  6  Louw,  5  Etzebeth,  4 De Jager, 3  Malherbe, 2 Bismarck du Plessis, 1 Mtawarire
Please no further Alberts, Bakkies, Matfield and Jannie du Plessis in the mix. They would weaken the Tight 5 too much and will not contribute to getting forward carries over the gain line.
To my mind t he above is the team that could beat the Aussies and the All Blacks - something which otherwise will not be achievable.

Sapp here is a comment from a long post of yours August 6 2013
My Bok side come next year would be:

15. Taute 14. JP 13. JJ 12. Serfontein 11. Willie 10. Goosen 9. Hougaard 1. Beast 2. Bismark 3. Coenie 4. Etzebeth 5. Steph du Toit 6. Brussouw 7. Arno Botha 8. CJ Stander 16. Kitshoff 17. Marcel v/d Merwe 18. Strauss 19. Jacques du Plessis 20. Elsadt 21. v/Zyl 22. Lambie 23. Frans

It's a funny one. You have moved your favourite Taute to fullback. Willie who you now say is too slow for wing....you had at wing! For the rest the backline looks much the same as I speculated above, except for JP.
And we have Coenie at tighthead...oops....and of course CJ Standee.
Kitshoff and Marcel are bench props....Jacque du Plessis....wow.

And this post from May 29 hardly mentions Pollard...he Ranks below Jantjies and Boshoff. That's where you....the great youngster advocate has him. Thank heavens HM has more vision. Face it Dave Pollard and Willie were never hot buttons with you....Jantjies and JJ are

Flyhalves: Goosen stands tall here, hell he single handedly beat the Brumbies and its good to see him rediscover his mojo. Muscling up has helped his cause. Its a pity we have lost the impressive Lambie to a bicep injury of all things. The Sharks lost direction after his departure. Jantjies has fallen out of favour with useless Ackerman at the Lions - very poor treatment of a talented player. Boshoff looks handy for the Lions and Pollard looks the real deal at the Bulls. Potgieter is a more than handy enough player who would not let any side down. Same can be said of Catrekillis. I never initially rated Coleman at the Stormers, but he is fast proving me wrong. Tim Swiel is the real deal and needs some investment from Jake. He could be the next big thing with his attacking instincts. Zielinga looks useful enough. Frans is an option to cover at 10, but I dont see 10 as being his starting spot......level headed is not something you associate with Frans and his hand to boot is too slow under pressure. Ebersohn looks to be in the form of his life, showing the form he always promised at lower levels. Grant is off form, but handy when on song.

So we have: Goosen / Lambie / Jantjies / Boshoff / Pollard / Swiel / Potgieter / Coleman / Ebersohn / Frans / Zielinga / Catrekillis / Grant

I think that ll this nonsense written about what any member said in the past is meaningless.    Rugby is not a dead game and there are changes that people adjust to as time goies on.  To state that anybody said anything about a specific player in the past in fact means that there is no progress in thinking about the game.
What is pertinent to see how a player develops over time and that is the most important issue here.     There was a ned for the replacment of Morne Steyn at flyhalf - and the obvious candidate was Goosen - but he was injured.  So Meyer had to decide between Pollard and Boshoff.
He decided on Pollard who showed his real class by playing a much better game than Steyn had played in the past four years - an all-round creative game. I suaspected that it would happen and am delighted for the youngster.  However, to say that Saffex did not rate Pollard is BS.  Nobody did - since he had very little senior rugby previously.  So those people who suddenly claim sainthood in this regard are talking tripe.
Mozart for one said he had reservations about the team and went for Pollard. Serfontein and De Jager in particular.   Those were exactly the players who made a huge difference to the match.

Everything I have ever said about Pollard is positive....in the context of the Scottish game I said he should have played off the bench to avoid any Gaffie like issues. Why? Because unlike you and Sapp From the moment I saw him play, I rated him above Goosen and Lambie....and I felt a positive introduction is important.
It would be very pleasant if you stopped lying.

Gaffie-like issues?  Why come up with that and says you were positive?  Sounds to me you were hoping that he would fail in the game - coming up with that kind of comment.
I have yet to see you being positive about younger players - so excuse my disbelieve.
By the way the Welsh were not the top side in the 6 Nations either - they were in fact easily beaten by the Irish 26-3.   So the opposition was weak and the Springboks very nearly became unstiuck against them.     So why the fuss about the sScots and no fuss about the weak  Welsh team we nearly lost to in the 2nd test?
