Curwin is probably ready for test rugby. His pole kicking is better than anyone else in SA already.
Taking into consideration injuries.
9. ?
10. Curwin Bosch, Jean Luc, Goosen/Jantjies
12. Harold Vorster. Mix of power and skill for defence and attack
13. updated- (Lukhanyo Am, Lionel Mapoe)
14. Delande. He is not a defender, but he needs to be on the pitch somewhere. He will miss less tackles out on the wing, and has experience on the wing, where he initially started playing at the Stormers- and has the pace. He was always played at 12 or wing, until Meyer tried him at outside centre- where his defensive play was exposed even more so than at 12.

15 Willie Leroux. Need a playmaker and brain in the backline, but likely that Coetzee will not pick him.  The main thing is instructions not to do stupid chip kicks, and to make sure that he kicks into touch on clearance kicks// Jessie Kriel.
11, Kings Winger/ Rhule (Habana is done, but Cotezee will probably keep him).
The 1st year after a world cup should be transitioning out older players with replacements that will still be around by the next world cup.

Curwin right now is a great goal kicker.....if it wasn't for that and the fact that he is young, we wouldn't even be talking about him. Thus far he has shown little ability to make things happen offensively from 10 and he is a better open field than a channel tackler. . He needs to play fullback, but the way Tuculet outjumped him for the high ball raises concerns even about that. . Maybe his goal kicking is worth it....his general play is not test level yet. .

I do not think that I would like anyone at flyhalf at present.   From what I have seen thus far each of the players listed has a problem and the main one is that neither of the flyhalfs who played this year are really thinking players who can read games and take decisions.    I would not consider Bosch at present - he has potential - but there is a need for further experience that would indicate whether he can make the grade.   He may yet turn into another Jantjies who crumble under pressure.
One thing a flyhalf should NEVER do is to make relieving kicks who do not find touch or make penalty kicks who leads to counter-attacks by not finding touch.    That is what happened yesterday on the part of both Jantjies and Bosch and that causes serious doubts on my part.
Aside from that I initially thought that Du Preez or Pollard may make the grade - but Pollard was slow and in the main poor thus far this year and Du Preez seems to be indecisive as well,    The only players I would consider at flyhalf at this stage are either Goosen or Du Plessis -  the rest are just not up to standard.    The real disaster would be to play Fat Fransie at flyhalf as is rumoured in the media.   White may try to convince Coetzee to do that, but that would be the worst move he can make.   The French knows Fat Fransie and they would make a meal of him.    He is possibly the worst selection anyone could consider.
With Janse van Rensburg out of the picture I would play De Allende and Vorster as the center  combination and would add Venter as a backup.   The rest are just not on at present.
I wish Combrinck was available on the wing - but would select Van Wyk and Rhule as potential wings.
The worst problem is the position at scrummie.   To my mind the best performing scrummies this year in Super Rugby were Venter, Van Zyl and Schreuder.   The  worst one was Paige and both De Klerk and Reinach showed deficiencies.   I would not play the over-the-hill players and for that reason neither Vermaak, Duvenage or Claassens should be considered.
However, that is not the combination Coetzee would come up with and we can be sure the backline would be a disaster,   With Smith around we may yet see Venter and Rhule as center and wing respectively.

De Allende doesn't have the makings of a top line international centre ... especially at 12.

One needs at least one lonely grey cell to be effective there and he sadly only sports an empty vacuum.

He is no doubt a powerhouse and the thought of him on the wing isn't a bad idea. I would have no problem seeing him run out with the 14 jersey. It would open up the inside channel nicely ... much like how the AB use Savea.

I still feel that Koch Marx is the better option. A powerful man in the mould of Vorster and Janse van Rensburg but with more pace.

Bosch is a youngster and I feel he's done well as replacement for Lambie. Not too shabby for being thrown into the deep end. A definite prospect to be managed properly. He needs more exposure though. I don't think he's ready for test rugby yet. Maybe try him off the bench in the last 20.

I differ from you about De Allende - he is a very good center and not as bad as you made him out to be.   Remember who his coaches were when he was brought into the Springbok team and tell me whether the two had any idea about backline play and a game plan involving backline players.
I still think that Smith given a proper backline would bring forth better performance by players.    I would not come up with other players than I mentioned and bring along potential other contenders over a period should the mentioned ones fail.

Your point on the coaches he was exposed to (Coetzee & Fleck) says it all.

No arguments from me.

They would destroy the Incredible Hulk (Nonu) in less trhan a season

Pity we can't see his progress under one like Ackerman.

So CC after watching Francois Venter against the Faders yesterday do you still think that snail is 'a fantastic player'?

Pollard cannot be overlooked as the starting #10.
His backup should be Bosch or Jean Luc, Jantjies is a non-starter and scared stiff in test rugby.
With reference to wings ....what about the ex Stormer and now Sharks wing van Wyk.
He showed a lot of class when at the Stormers and then faded from the scene only to come good at the Sharks.
He is a strong runner, gutsy and fast.

Van Wyk was the player I suggested in the first place.   He left the Stormers because Fleck was addicted to Leyds and Senatla at wing and Van Wyk did not get the game time he deserved.
I am not sure about Pollard - he was in the main poor in all matches he played in this year as admitted by himself and is now injured again.   He lost a lot of pace and he has decision-making problems.    He may yet turn into a useful flyhalf if he gets decent coaching and a decent game plan.   At this stage there is nothing bar his reputation as a junior that count in his favour.

Mozart ... bearing in mind that my preference at 12 & 13 is Janse van Rensburg and Vorster ... and taking into consideration that the so called "talent" we have at 13 is De Jongh, Kriel & Mapoe ... then yes I would definitely consider him as the better option to select.

Do you have anyone else as a better option?

To be honest I would rather play Kriel than Venter.....Venter's tackling is no better, witness his role in Sader's tries yesterday, and that predictable inside step is a killer.

The real question is, do we play the lightning fast Eben Etzebeth at left wing or right wing?

Moffie, the next beating you ever admini ster to me on this forum will be your first.
You may not realize that, but everyone else does.
Just stick to calling for Dylan Hartley to be your British Lions captain, Eben Etzebeth to be a faster runner than Ben Smith and predicting that the Super Rugby Lions will finish mid-table!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha!

Keep selecting Lose-Jones as Lions captain, Notsche as an instant Bok....and Pieter Youngs Du Toit as a flank. . LMAOFY!

I suggested Alun-Wyn Jones might be an option and at least he made the Lions squad (and probably the starting XV) - unlike your clear pick Dylan Hartley never even made the sqaud. Wehe!
Skuna Notshe has had a decent enough Super Rugby season so far . . . the second highest try scorer for the Hapless Stompies so far.
I have never advocated Pieter-Steph du Toit as a flank. That is yet another of your disgusting lies. I do maintain he's more suited to flank than your beloved Eben Etzebeth though.
Just keep wiping all that egg off your fat face Moffie and stop trying so hard to compete with me . . . when you're obviously in a much, much lower league!
LMAO!

No you said he was odds on favourite.....gloated about how embarrassed I would be when he was selected captain.....and then when it didn't happen you edited your posts to eliminate the evidence. . How pathertic is that....I mean really, how low, needy and dishonest is that.

No, that is another Moffie lie. I never edited anything.
Tell me, Moffie, I'm not sure if the forum editor can tell if/when posts were edited but if he can confirm I never edited a single post regarding the Lions squad/captaincy, would you have the decency to admit that you are a common liar?
I know you're a gutless coward but it's a simple yes or no question.

Now answer the very simple question, coward. I know you're still dodging the question I asked you about the "Leins" (sic) and when you changed your mind about their prospects, but try to be a man for once in your sad and pathetic life a nd answer this latest question. Even your Servile Gimps expect a bit of backbone.

Expectation of shaping the backline against France when this game is going to be about  forwards play.

By setting the objective elsewhere it is supposed to be, the chances of failure are decreased.
